Notice how Rawls is a natural police. In season 1, he was a great leader when Kima got shot, figured out the street signs, and got Jimmy back on his feet. And now here, he understood what Colvin did, even through Colvin downplaying it (nobody else in the room got it at first). And Burrell dismisses Colvin's letters, but Rawls is the one to start showing interest in them, and the next scene, Burrell is using said letters as a shield. He even appreciated Colvin's plan. He gets it, but he is way too high up and career minded, to get his hands dirty.

Yeah, Rawls would back it 100% if he wasn't such a pragmatist about the politics.

Ya, it took me 2 or 3 viewings to realize Rawls was always good police. He is the conclusion of a good police that climbs that ladder and puts politics first.

yep rawls looks like he probably came up like mcnulty in alot of ways just less rebellious while burrell always seemed like he got his position through pure politics in my opinoin

Actually at this point in the season Avon has rallied and starting to cause considerable losses to Marlo's crew. The shootings at the beginning are all Stanfield soldiers getting knocked off the board. Part of the reason Marlo kills the girl as a response.

About Carver, if you're ever going to watch the show again since season 1 you're going to see that this change in him didn't "come out of nowhere" he's always had some looka at issues or a different view than Heric has, and even at the end of season 1 when Daniels give him a moral lesson about loyalty and what he wants for hia future you can see something in him. I think you just didn't like him and didn't care much for when he was on the scene. Anyway this series ia good to watch again and notice a lot of things in the characters that we didn't realize at first and how this whole world interconnects

Great reaction and analysis. And you picked up the parallel between String betraying Avon, and Tommy "betraying" Tony. Poor Jimmy, realising he's out of his depth with Tommy's campaign manager - no wonder he looked excited when he spotted "Beadie" in the car, lol. Cool cameo for Rawls in the bar - that's the happiest we've seen him! It's worth mentioning Season 3 was expected to be the end of the series. At the time the writers didn't know whether future seasons would be commissioned so they would've sought to bring certain storylines to a conclusion.
@calypso4882

I wouldn't say Jimmy was out of his depth. She did look straight through him, like what he does doesn't matter. The political class do that a lot you might notice.

In regards to Rawls sitting in a gay bar notice how Rawls is the most character in this show that uses the term "cocksucker" or terms/gestures of a similar nature resembling homosexuality when addressing other male characters.

My all time favorite quote from this series is in this episode. “That ain’t weak. That’s the starting point”. Inspirational and just a bit of hope in a series that’s pretty bleak

19:02 Wow, I'd forgotten about... THAT line of dialogue 😅 There've been several instances of *less than savoury* turns of phrase from the characters in The Wire (and more to come too!). Reminds me of Mr. Robot in a way, with the stuff Darlene would come out with. I think her and Rawls would have a very interesting argument scene were there ever a crossover episode 😂

All of Rawl’s obsession/hatred and lewd insults of McNulty hit in a slightly different way on a second watch after you know that he hangs at gay bars. Side note: I was very glad you all caught that moment because I was worried you’d look away and miss it.
@Stefanthenautilus
@Stefanthenautilus Жыл бұрын
I have always maintained that there's a strange kind of affection underneath their relationship, even with all the hatred up front. Rawls is a kind of proxy father figure to McNulty, giving him someone to act out against but who also keeps him in line. And as exasperating as Rawls finds McNulty, I think he knows that they have more in common than either one lets on - after all, they're both natural police. And McNulty's cocky arrogance probably just makes him just as attractive to interested men as he is to women..

7:08 Your faces when you see it's the long-awaited Brother Mouzone in the dark car. Somebody's going to emergency, somebody's going to jail. West Wing season 2, ep 16, start of a seven-episode run to the end of the season that is just peak television. The line comes from a song, New York Minute by Don Henley.

Girls are right about Bunny's approach. We tried to legalize drugs on the West coast. From L.A all the way up to Anchorage. But with no support, no public service, and with divided communities. It's a nightmare.

You guys are great. New patreon subscriber mostly for your The Wire reactions (and have gone back in your catalog for “Breaking Bad” … and have zero concerns about your opinions there…lol). A show I think you would both love is “The Queen’s Gambit. It’s less action-y than some of your shows, but it has an emotional core that I think you’d love. And Lola, there will be kids upcoming in The Wire. I hope you don’t check out. It’s not always easy, but it’s the beating heart of the series. And there is hope to be found there. Love you both.
