for some reason people don’t react to it but i think you would both love Twin Peaks. David Chase has admitted he was inspired by it and it was a real game changer for tv. kind of like of how without Tony there is no Walter white, without twin peaks there’s no sopranos (and other shows)

There's one person currently reacting to The Return (she apparently did season 1 and 2 before it] but it's such wasted potential because she's BEYOND obnoxious and is more focused on making goofy noises and faces every two seconds at everything, instead of giving thoughtful commentary and genuine reactions. I won't name who, but if you search it, you'll find it quick, and if you watch just one episode of her reacting to it (especially the bomb episode, that's the one I wanted to see her say something about and it was just... unbearable), you'll see what I mean. Literally constantly making exaggerated, infantile noises and faces as though every second of the show is the most mind-bendingly insane shit she's ever seen. I mean, it is that, as a show, don't get me wrong, but it doesn't warrant the sheer CONSTANT clown show she's been putting on. Like, instead of just soaking in the atmosphere of the nuke detonation scene as it progresses, she just can't stop making noises and faces and exaggerated, drawn out gasps in between sips of wine, saying "WINE, NEED MORE WINE"... It feels like the embodiment of those "millennial humor" tiktoks, but unironic and actually thinking it's funny to be "le random" all the time. She's gotta be in her late 20s, 30s even, too. I guess her audience loves it, because everyone in the comments is having a blast watching her apparently. Granted, I didn't sort those by "new", so maybe those were just the "fans" that get top comment positions. I hate to be mean, but I had to rant, because you're right: youtube is already starved for good Twin Peaks reactions, and the one person I've found who is showing real interest in the series, and watching it all in mostly decently-edited videos... is actually just painful to watch at all. That sucks.

Many people call Chase's Soprano dream scenes' "Lynchian" and it really makes sense now (besides Sopranos dreams being some of the best dreams there are). I can finally see the connection and admiration between Chase with Lynch.. I don't watch every TV show like these two great reactors or a lot of you viewers.. But I defy you to find any dream sequences in TV (and most movies) that top David Chase's extremely unnerving dreams.

I second Deadwood, the closest in quality you'll get to Sopranos IMO. Although fair warning, if you think the anti-hero-ness and gray morality of Sopranos is tough at times, Deadwood might be a little tougher. Deadwood's characters are some of the best you'll ever watch.

@41:15 Yes. Tony, motivated by his own recent money troubles and Carmela's warning that "everything comes to an end", screws over Uncle Junior. He learns that the Esplanade project is going to make the value of all the local properties skyrocket, and he remembers that Junior (who has been begging for money and isn't informed of the impending deal) owns just such a property. Tony makes a lowball offer and frames it as giving his uncle a hand but he's really just robbing him.

I absolutely empathise with the feeling of reaching the end of something like The Sopranos. Once you finish a classic, especially one that's so influential, it constantly feels like every subsequent show is just you chasing something that might give you that similar feeling, even though it can never be the same. Tony is clearly manipulating Chris to secure his loyalty. But I have to strongly disagree that he lied. I dont think theres any question the cop did it. #1: He pretends to hot know who Dickie was. Any detective knows who these gig players are. Hes clearly had dealing with the mob because Tony said hes been useful. So the cop clearly lied. #2: He lied about know knowing who Jimi Ruffalo was. Again, this is a boss or at least a captian in the mafia. He knows who he is. Tony didnt just pick a name out of a hat. This guy is on the take, so he knows the players. #3 Just before Chris shoots him he says "Im sorry". Why would he be apologising if he didnt kill his father?

@@albertocruz5032 I think that ultimately made the show better because the last season is like a meta-commentary about what was going on with the show behind the scenes. Hearst represents the executives trying to impose their vision on a show that they did not make but think they own because of money. Swearengen represents David Milch trying to save the show, which is represented by Trixie. Ultimately the ending of the series, represented by Jen, is sacrificed on the off chance that the show might get picked up again after the executives (Hearst) leave. Johnny represents the audience who can't understand Milch's final choice because from their perspective all that was needed was a pretty ending to the story, hence the last line of the show.

Here's some shows I recmomend without giving spoilers: The Shield - very gritty and focuses on the dark side of policing, specifically corruption and hypocrisy in anti-gang units. It's gritty style may put one in mind of The Wire, but it's focus remains pretty much solely on the police, and is a little more dramatically heightened, if still plausible. The Shield's tension building definitely influenced Breaking Bad, and I also think The Shield has the most cathartically satisfying finale to any show. Deadwood - a revisionist western and a historical drama which mixes historical people and events with fictional ones to tell the story of how a lawless camp becoms a civilized town, it acting as a microcosm for the process of civilization as a whole. It's an ensemble show focusing on community with many rich characters, and it's dialogue is on a whole never level as it mixes Shakesperean style poetics, vulgariry, and period colloquialism to create possibly the greatest dialogue ever on TV. The only problem is that it was cancelled at the end of its 3rd season, leaving it incomplete, though there was a film made years later which acts as an epilogue of sorts. Mad Men - this doesn't have the drugs, violence, or explicit sex of the other shows, but it's creator Matthew Weiner wrote on the last few seasons of The Sopranos, and much of Mad Men has a similar approach to episode and season structure, and character exploration. It centers around the Madison Avenue advertising world of the 1960s set against the backdrop of major historical events of the time, largely centering around the enigmatic and complex Don Draper and his various personal struggles, as well as those of women rising in the workplace . Mad Men is generally acclaimed as the other shows you've mentioned, but doesn't grab immediate attention due to a lack of genre appeal. I'd personally place it right alongside or maybe even above The Sopranos. I'd place The Wire and Deadwood at the top, and I also actually consider THe Shield to be superior to Breaking Bad, which is probably controversial to many. Regardless, these are 3 great shows if you've loved The Wire, The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, and Better Call Saul

A real mobster called James Gandolfini and actually told him, “Dons don’t wear shorts.” Creator David Chase used it in the show.

Which is kind of funny because Michael Franzese has spoken about that part multiple times and said a boss would never give a shit about such a thing. LOL!

I guarantee you it wasn't even a real mobster. It was probably some mob history fanatic. An he called to let James know what he thought a mob boss would & should wear. Many mobsters & mob bosses wear shorts. They have pictures of them in holidays, summers vacations, fishing trips in shorts.

Next, do True Detective, season 1. Each season has its own cast and story, so you don’t need to commit. And season 1 is in a class by itself, all others falling short. Season 1 is like nothing else you’ve seen, and it’s just 8 episodes.

Some suggestions: Mr Inbetween is an australian crime show with dark comedy elements. 3 short seasons, really stands out and deserves more attention. The Shield is underrated and remained a very solid show until the end. Firefly was cancelled during its first season but had a film made to complete the arc, and I feel the show is still one of the greatest. True Detective season 1 is self contained and is one of the greatest pieces of media ever made. Fargo season 1 is self contained and is extremely good. Seasons 2 and 3 also are fantastic.
