@AlexanderNevermind8882 жыл бұрын
I grew up in the streets of Jersey. In all of my youth, I only knew of one corner boy to become something bigger, and it wasn't a kingpin. He became a soldier eventually and ended up taking the fall for the real kingpin who didn't get indicted until some 15 years or so later on a RICO. That "corner boy" got 40 years for basically being a buffer for the higher-ups. I don't care who you are, or how much try to convince me that you will rise up through the ranks, or how many lies you tell yourself by flashing a roll of bills. It's all BS. You have a better chance at passing a college class than you do at being a successful old drug dealer. The game is not made to be won.

He also expects to be a kingpin in 2-3 years. So basically as he sees it, he's gonna start at corner boy, then work his way up to kingpin in 2-3 years, then do that for a few years, and use the money to finance his schooling to become a pediatric neurosurgeon. A somewhat unusual route to say the least lol

The reason The Wire was so good-- its unsentimental, cold eye-- is captured in this scene. These kids aren't really kids; they just look like it. Really they're just raw movers of capital, training for optimum efficiency. They don't take school seriously because they're already full-time workers.
@deanfarr32494 жыл бұрын
If tupac Shakur was still alive he probably would've been in this tv show.
@dysplasiagiraffe48454 жыл бұрын
Nah they kids, shown to be still wet behind the ears and oblivious to their material circumstances, whether it’s because they’ve subconsciously muted out their environment or just aren’t yet truly awake to the coldness of their world
@oceandark30444 жыл бұрын
@@dysplasiagiraffe4845 Really both of those statements are true. Those kids aren't really kids, they're full time workers with very adult responsibilities. And yet they are definitely still kids, because they aren't conceptually aware of their place in the system in which they operate or the consequences of their lifestyles. Hence the disconnect in this particular season of the Wire; these are children yet not children, and all the previous seasons of the Wire explain why.

@Brooklyn39552 жыл бұрын
Why don't you admire him now? You don't admire the motivation, the hard work, the sacrifices he made. Since we're talking about The Wire - don't admire the "code" he had, the devotion, , and ultimately the courage he had to take the opportunity this country gave him? What changed that he was once admired and no longer admired. Is it because he has conservative values? Is it because Carlson is a Republican? Just curious.
@killtrump_6662 жыл бұрын
@@Brooklyn3955 hes a creationist for 1. He sold out his community for the most racist low hanging fruit platform in the country. He’s a sellout and a disgrace to the medical profession.

You admire him because he put in more time and effort than anybody else to achieve what he wanted to. YOU do that much work and then have other people telling you you need to pay more in taxes. My ass. That’s why you’re not a pediatric neurosurgeon. Get on his level and then you can speak on it.
