It's crazy the difference in how Randy reacted to seeing Prez at the door compared to seeing Carver at the door. He trusted Prez and was comfortable around him, which is wild when you remember how Prez treated the youth of Baltimore in season one. Carver meant well and cared, but he still had the badge that kept him from being as connected as he wanted to be to protect them. Which is also a milestone improvement compared to how he treated them in earlier seasons.

Until that very moment, Namond believed his mother loved him. Calls back to when Dee's mother told him to sacrifice himself for Avon's business, but even more brutal and explicit now. That's a "soul death" moment. No one but a true writer can show that, and no one but a true actor can bring it to life. And Carv having to walk away from Randy yelling at him in the hospital is top candidate for most profound moment in the history of television.

I instantly fell in love with The Wire when it first aired on Sunday June 2, 2002. It was right after Six Feet Under and before that was the Sopranos. HBO was off the hook. When Season 4 aired, I had no idea how much a television show could impact the soul. The heartbreak was real. It’s without a doubt the best season from the best show ever. Yes, I realize what I am saying.

@@neilsun2521: Im going to keep it 💯. I get so sick and tired of the media always asking the same damn questions to the cast. The Wire was a slow burn, not many viewers, blah, blah, blah. The Wire was great because Dave Simon and Ed Burns didn’t give a fuck about that. They just wanted to tell a great story and in a way that challenged the viewer. It was a novel for television and like all great novels, it rewarded you for your patience. I was hooked from the jump. A Predominant Black cast whose characters were multilayered. At the end of the day, the viewership, and lack of accolades had shit to do with it being methodical. It had to do with White America not wanting to see a story that didn’t look like them. The block was always in-tuned to the Wire. White America didn’t want to entertain it. Facts. Not one Emmy win for The Wire. But you have Breaking Bad… (A slow burn) cleaning shop. I call bullshit.

This episode is the reason to watch the entire show. This episode has so much dark weight it has its own gravity. Every step of this episode is at a full sprint. This episode is violent in a fashion that’s incredibly realistic; from Michael bitch slapping Nay, to fucking up Kenard, Cutty gettin shot, Randy’s step mom getting burned alive… it’s savagely apparent these kids lives are FUUUCKED up and all these stories are based in the world we live in.

The scene where Prez secretly laughs at the student's remark is one of the best little character moments ever. Just a natural "Actually, pretty funny" example and very relatable. I love it. Yeah idc what anyone says, I know an opinion is a opinion and everything is subjective which is fine and all that but I'm sorry people who think The Wire is a "bad" show are just...wrong. It's not the show for everybody, absolutely not but saying it's a *bad* show...just no 😂😂😂 Like the fact that this season is as incredible as it is and the main protagonist, McNulty, has barely been present in the overall storyline is brilliant writing to me personally and that aspect of Season 4 alone shows you who the main character of the series actually is which...just adds to the brilliance for me. This episode is simply put incredible. Definitely one of the greatest episodes of television and easily one of the most tragic. There is just *too* much in this episode to talk about. All that said I think the finale "Final Grades" is the best episode out of the entire series. Julito McCullum once again absolutely steals it for me although Maestro Harrell is easily a close second but again all four boys are equally fantastic. Sherrod's death is obvious, even more so than Wallace's, but I think that was intentional cause it's one of those moments where we the audience know what's about to happen and we're powerless to stop it. Kind of like with Frank Sobotka. I got chills on my first watch and then when it actually happened...bruh. Legit the first time this show got me to cry (the following episode *did* not help). The buildup and Bubbles figuring everything out. Not to mention Andre Royo's acting. Sheesh.

It's definitely the most infuriatingly tragic because we saw so many instances where, if other people had done something just a little bit different (i.e. if Crutchfield had given the message to Bunk instead of pissily throwing it in the trash), Randy could have been saved. But I think Dukie is probably the more heartbreaking overall because the poor kid never had a chance from the jump. The system didn't just fail him; it fucked him from Day 1.

@tavarisp452 Жыл бұрын
I didn’t mean to paint her as a villain. But she for sure leverages Randy’s foster situation to get him to tell on kids. Randy put himself in bad spots but it’s hard to blame him given where he lives and his circle is. Mike mom on dope, Dukie people on dope, Nay mom pushing him to sell dope. Randy the only one who’s stable and she leveraged him using that. No way she could’ve predicted the outcome but it sucks.

@tavarisp452 Oh I don't blame Randy at all, the kid made bad judgement calls but...he's just that, a kid. I've just also never blamed Donnelly for anything. Definitely don't agree with her tactics but that doesn't change the fact that she was just literally doing her job. She reacted as expected to me.
