THE WITCH (Sony F3 in 4k 2020)

Here's a quick test piece I shot this morning with my F3. The more I continue to use this camera the more I find something new to appreciate. No matter how many different cameras I test, nothing colors as easily as the F3 and the F35. People always ask me if they should get this camera in 2020, and my response will always be "this camera can go well past 2022". The price these babies are going for is insane. you have to take my word for it, you can shoot any kind of film with this camera from big huge Hollywood films, to low no budget indie projects. The camera doesn't have a baked in look, everything is created by the artist which makes this a very versatile system for any cinematographer. 007,pans labyrinth, no problem, if you can envision it this camera won't be the bottleneck towards achieving the look you desire.
Lastly, I'm often asked if a 4:4:4 recorder is necessary. NO, everything I shoot is 422 color on the Blackmagic video assist I never ran into any color issues.

Thanks. It’s the color of the sensor that I enjoy deeply. When you add any saturation to it the camera just sings.

yes, its all about artistic skills, modern gear is really designed more for consumers, sony f3/f35/f65 are top-line cinema models and in the right hands they will produce blockbuster quality

Glad you noticed that. All on purpose though, 100 percent in opacity lol wanted to be risky, it feels good to know I’m not the only one who noticed it.

hey! how did you achieve that look in resolve? Did you use any luts? and could you share your nodes? I am trying to get the best footage of my 422 proress that I took with my F3 and I was wondering if you could help me. Big thanks!

Hey man, so for this I didn’t use any luts at all. All I did was use the color wheels and saturation for this and added some grain. That’s really all it was. Wat created the look you see is purely lighting. I shot this on a very overcast day and the important light diffuser was the fog. Without those elements already existing I wouldn’t have been able to achieve this look.

Hey there love to hear what you just said I just love that others are still using the F3 such a beautiful camera. I upres in resolve using the super scale feature located in clip attributes. It works wonders for sure. Would love to see your short as well.

yes sir, its not really raw its slog which is a format very similar to raw and better in my opinion. both of those recorder you mentioned can capture everything you will need on the f3
