And that's what makes it one of the most chilling endings I've experienced in a video game. I understand she wants him to have a souvenir from her but how about something easier to carry then a sword? :P I mean Geralt doesn't quite have a home where he can put it up on a wall, he'd need to carry it with him all the while and I can already imagine the jokes from people like "Oh this witcher over here's too tuff for even two swords, has to carry 3, HAH!" or questions like "What's the third one made of? o.o" xD For her it would be a much better thing to have to remind her of her youth AND she now has a place of her own where she can keep it. Feels like the Ciri is dead and Ciri as Empress endings were done first, and the Ciri as a Witcher ending got the rush to completion shaft... Witcher ending is by far the worst. At least the death ending has you killing Weavess and recovering Vesemir's medallion... They really dropped the ball with everything post Kaer Moren. It was because everything before then was so great too, that the unexpected decline, and mediocre endings, were so much more painful. Here's hoping the Witcher 3 Enhanced Edition fixes this mess.

I doubt it is the canon ending. CD Projekt has already shot down more Witcher games where you play as Geralt, multiple times. That leaves Ciri as the protagonist of Witcher 4 as the most likely scenario imo, which would mean that the Ciri becomes a Witcher ending is canon.

Rectus Rectumius they are still based on the books. The characters characteristics didn't appear out of thin air. Meaning that the game expands on the books. And in the books, aka her backstory, Ciri shows otherwise than what people here think is best for her. Ofc they can add things (and they have, mind you). But CDPR has never changed the core of a character. And Ciri becoming queen is not suiting if you aim to role play this game through a logical pov to best suit the characters interests. But if u aim to play based on your own opinion, then Ciri becoming empress is obviously the best outcome for all.

She fucking stopped the WHITE FROST (and helped defeat the Wild Hunt), and she's Geralt's fucking daughter. This means that he'll always have her best interest in mind (and damn politics as far as he cares). I don't care if it's not by blood, he is Ciri's father by everything but blood. Ciri wants freedom, she admires Witchers and most of all her FATHER Geralt (Not Emhyr). The world will continue, Emhyr will rule, but at least there won't be a full scale war destroying everything in its path (with one mad man as the ruler). Sure, there still will be prejudice in the world, might be insurgencies, and Ciri would make a great ruler, but dammit she's done enough, I say let her be happy. Say what you will I think at least for the “World” of the Witcher this ending is the best. Why? Ciri will rule the Empire which rules the continent. Knowing Ciri she’ll end the slave system, repeal or alter many of the worst imperial laws, organize mass infrastructure projects, aid groups, etc. Her rule would be a blessing to the people’s of the continent. She also likely to purge the worst elements of the Empire from her court and armies.

I like this ending the best. Ciri leaving the life of a witcher behind to become the heir to the Empire is bittersweet; it's obviously not something she wanted to do, but it's the most adult and responsible choice, because this is what she needed to do. Both the book and the game series really make us think who the real monsters are: random creatures that take a life or two in the wilderness and isolated villages, or scheming and power hungry madmen (or women) with armies at their backs and can decimate entire nations at their whims. At that point, the Northern Kingdoms are conquered but still restive; Emhry appears to be strong but also has plenty of domestic enemies plotting his downfall; the Sorceresses are still plotting to regain power. +Charles W I agree man. I mean, I will always prefer the good ending where she becomes witcheress, but this one definately fits in much better into the narrative. At the end of the day, no matter how much you'd like some things to happen(like Geralt and Ciri being happy together), life doesn't always go the way you want it. And that was always one of the messages in the Witcher universe. Geralt also realized this; that his little girl has grown up and finally doesn't need him anymore. As a witcher dealing with monsters, you often get pulled/tricked into dealing with monsters of the human sort. From this position there is only so much you can do, and often have to accept that many horrors are beyond your helping; the result of bad leadership and organization. If you had the chance to fix those two things, or at least to greatly improve them, and passed it up, how could you live with yourself seeing the results of your neglect all the time in a witcher's life? I think Ciri would actually end up very sad as a witcher. As Empress she can learn how to run a stable empire having learned from Emhyr, yet do it with greater balance having learned how how to mediate between parties well from Geralt. With many of the clashes of kingdoms now in the past, the burden of possible treachery will be less for her than it was for Emhyr, and there will be less monsters in the world with the way things have concluded. There is still challenge from the sorceresses, but she has strong personal ties to properly mediate that as well, not to mention elder blood. Moreover, since she is so well educated in monsters and magic of and also understands the way ignorance leads to dealing with them both in the wrong way, she can properly educate the military of Nilfgaard to be able to handle more without witchers help, yet can also use her power to instruct her military to respect them and also protect witchers from paranoid mobs so that they can thrive and do their work in the land when it comes to tasks her people cant handle.

In my first playthrough, I'd already known that Ciri either ends up dead, a Witcher or as the Empress. I thought about it long and hard even before the game brought it up. My thoughts are this: Ciri, as the Empress, seems to be the logical conclusion to the series. She would've had a positive impact on Nilfgaard as a Monarch, and it also goes to show that she picks the choice on her own. But is that really good for her? Is that really good for the Ciri that we get to know throughout the game? Ciri always came across as a free spirit. Someone who loves to travel and explore, meet new people. Seeing her on the throne, bound by her duties as a Monarch would feel as though Ciri has been shackled. Something that Ciri iterates time and again is how she wants lead a 'normal' life; Away from being a princess, away from people who are after her because of her abilities. I can always imagine the adventures that Ciri would have if she chose the path of a Witcher, the people whose lives she would change and ultimately we, as Geralt, can hope that she'd be happy. There is one thing that I disagree with what Ciri said in this particular ending. The fact that she, as the Empress, would have a greater impact on the world. While that can be said to be the case, she is forgetting literal antithesis to that notion. Geralt himself. Over the course of the games that we've played as Geralt (Witcher 1,2 & 3) we can see just how great an impact that he, as a Witcher, has had on the world. It can even be said that he has had more of an influence on the state of the world than a Monarch has had. It isn't as obvious, due to the fact that he's 'just' a Witcher and not some King whose actions are easier to pin down, but nonetheless they have a ripple effect on grave matter. Also, let's not forget the power of small acts of kindness that Geralt performs (provided you didn't role-play as a pseudo bandit-witcher), even if it was just completing a contract for a particularly troublesome monster in some obscure 'little' village. Those actions have their own power. I don't think that either ending is 'better' than the other. Though I have to give CDPR props for creating a narrative which ends up being good according to each individual. What I mean by that is that it is up to us, as the player, to think up what is best for Ciri. Almost as though she actually IS our daughter. And that is what sets this game's ending apart from most others. You may think that Ciri should grow up and assume the responsibilities as an Empress, or you may think that Ciri should be a free spirit and walk the path, the same as Geralt. Neither choice is worse than the other if viewed from a distance. Yet, we will have our preference for what appeals to us more; And that, I think, is what makes the ending worth the entire journey.

This ending had me going for a good while that Ciri wasn't able to stop the White Frost and everyone was just biding their time, pretending nothing was wrong, until the world was covered by snow. Geralt was hunting rabbits instead of monsters, because food was more important than gold. The soldier's mixed armor/past meant the borders were falling apart. Ciri was struggling with apathy/depression, because she knew everyone would be dead within a couple more years, and so on. After all that false pretense, discovering everything was fine and that Ciri would be leaving to become Empress hit me pretty hard. I love this game.

The "Nilfgaard Empress" is not cannon for all we know, because according to the saga lore (one of the short entries before one of the chapters from "Time of contempt") combined with info from the game , Morvran Voorhis became Emperor of Nilfgaard at some point after Emhyr. He's about in his forties in the game, and wouldn't live long enough to become Emperor after Ciri. There are only two possibilities- this ending is not canon, or Ciri died/abdicated shortly afterwards, allowing Voorhis to ascend to the throne.

The correct ending, but it DOES benefit Geralt, with her as Empress, he'd have full jurisdiction and semi reign over the Empire lol! Of course she would listen to him, and treat him with extreme benefits along with Triss and Yen and the other allies that aided in the fight against the Wild Hunt. But, this is the right ending, and you could tell, because even if you do EVERYTHING right (best choices meaning all choices that make her happy), this ending can ONLY be triggered if you take Ciri to meet the Emperor (her father). Otherwise... if you make the right choices, you'd get the Witcher ending, best ending it is deemed to be, but overall doesn't feel right, and it wasn't intended, because Geralt WOULD take Ciri to meet the Emperor in reality. So, this ending is the truest outcome, and I am glad I got it, gives me good thought knowing I'll have basically my daughter on the throne, I'd fucking MOVE to Nilfgaard.

Fuck me silly, did this game throw a bunch of emotion trains at me. Cried at two instances: this one, and when the battle of Kaer Morhen. The whole chapter, actually, from Ciri getting back at Kaer Morhen, to the end of the battle, was like a train of emotions is running through me. Completely agree with you...If we consider Whicher ending it's not happy ending if you think about it. ofcourse for few years of training with Geralt excluded. Then she goes for monster hunting only by herself and became the femous ashen hair Whicher with scar on her face. But emperor is not fool he will instantly recognize her or enquire about her. I got the Witcher ending on both my playthrough, but I think this is really the best. No matter what you do, Geralt and Ciri have to part at some point, even if she becomes a Witcher like she's always wanted. Geralt can't be with her al the time, he is old and he seems to have grown tired of his job, he did mention several times that he wished to retire . Also, world has changed, Witchers aren't needed anymore, there are soldiers now, monsters can be found in the wilderness, but they rarely approach towns anymore. (okay, in the games we have more monsters, otherwise it would be boring without them, but in the books, it's very hard for Geralt to find a decent job anymore). So, yeah I believe Ciri becoming Empress and using her talent to shape the world in a better place is indeed the best ending for anyone. Beside, I'm sure they could still see each other whenever they wanted ... after all, Ciri can teleport herself anywhere she wants in a few seconds.

I got the Ciri Witcheress ending and Nilfgaard still won the war. The only thing I did different to get witcheress ending was I never took Ciri to her father. As long as you cheer her up with the snowball fight, let her vent her anger when she feels betrayed by a friend, instill courage in her when she is going to talk to the Sorceresses but don't act in her stead, grieve with her when she asks you to find Skjall and bury him. The only thing that will change her from being Witcheress to Empress is whether or not you take her to her bio-father Emhyr. But I definitely by far prefer the Witcheress ending.

I had the Witcher Ending both times because after all what happened I though Ciri could be happy just being free and doing whatever she felt like doing and although that this might be the intended ending...it‘s fucking heartbreaking. Never felt the need to bring her to Emhyr, even if I felt a little cruel for that.
