Yo, for the algorithm. Keep doing what you’re doing, brother. This channel should explode. Edit: For the record, Geralt did die in the books. He got stabbed with a pitchfork and was rescued and brought back to live via magic. He also had amnesia when he came around, so its lore friendly and cannon.
@SyntheticMan3 жыл бұрын
Fair enough. Definitely works better in a novel format than a video game but it was handled decently enough in the game.
@stanettiels73673 жыл бұрын
@@SyntheticMan Yeah I agree. The “nearly died/died, brought back to life and awakens with amnesia” trope is way too overused. It’s also puzzling that both Geralt and Yennefer, one a superhuman monster slayer and the other a powerful sorceress, are killed by village peasants. Geralt was trying to protect a group of non humans from a mob of angry villagers and gets killed. Yennefer, trying to rescue Geralt, also suffers the same fate. They only survive because Ciri rescues them both.

As a Polak I have always known about The Witcher (I haven't read the books) so we all in Poland were waiting and checking every new informations about the first game. I knew that this was the Neverwinter Nights 2 engine so I went to the game like to classic rpgs like Baldurs Gate and Neverwinter Nights so thanks to that the combat didn;t bother me because it was not an action rpg for me but a classic one. Story was great, leveling the best in the series, missions fun. Really like the game. To be honest I don't like 2. Bugy engine, awful animations, the game is short and the worst of all the combat is really bad. The 3 game is great but it is more an action game with rpg elements than a true rpg. 3 is kinda disconnected from 1 and 2 in my opinion. Human-nonhuman conflict is gone and all this politic stuff is absent. Yeah this is my opinion. Thank you for your time.

Still, yeah it' very flawed but I think everyone should give it a go: I wasn't convinced at all before playing it (I played it waaaay after its release), but, again, it's now my favourite out of all the Witcher games ahahah. I am of the opposite opinion in regards to combat. I think it's great and well design. The fact that you have to manually click at the right time to chain the attacks, choose the right fighting style and sword based on what enemies you are facing, and potions are important at the highest difficulties, make the combat much more interesting than your classic cRPG isometric point and click combat system, where the action is abstract and automatic.

@Synthetic Man, I've never bought the miniatures. Got into 40k due to a few of the games and books. Hopefully, it'll mean bigger budgets for the video games. There's a lot they can do in the setting. But, it is indeed concerning to hear stuff like that. Just look at Star Wars, Star Trek, Halo, etc today... They apparently already did a comic book with Marvel lol.
@FatherSaunders3 жыл бұрын
Heresy! "They" have already infiltrated all of our favorite entertainment mediums. Movies, comic books, tv series, video games, table top D&D (which its easy to just not do it via the DM) but now 40K? I already thought Sororitas and the sisters of battle was laughable enough already. Outright stupid imo. The best game Ive played is Warhammer 40k inquisitor martyr. Im a primarily IARPG fan and 40k is perfect for it. Neocore did a good job. Much to improve but that game is the game i put the most hours on the entire last generation and it only came to consoles end of 2018. I bought it Mar of 2019. Like you, Ive never tabletop 40k but the lore and at least one game are great. (arguably dawn of war 2 is supposedly good but I hate RTS)
@Gruntvc3 жыл бұрын
@FatherSaunders, I've heard the Dawn of War games were good, well, the 1st two. I've played a few Space Hulk games and that Deathwing game. I'd recommend checking out Warhammer 40k Space Marine which was released in the early 2010s for Xbox 360, PS3, and Pc. You can buy the Steam version pretty cheap on sale. Real shame it sold poorly and didn't get a sequel. Hoping Warhammer 40k Darktide turns out good. Funny enough, it was remembering the low budget PS2 FPS, Warhammer 40k Firewarrior, that pulled me in lol. If I'd ever try the tabletop, I'd be interested to try out Space Hulk. Ya can tell it was heavily inspired by Aliens 1986. I'm no "hardcore" fan, but it'd definitely suck to see Warhammer 40k get diluted to mush like most "Western" escapist entertainment lately. Warhammer 40k gave pretty fair warning what kind of grimdark setting you're getting yourself into, especially in the books. Some of those fan films/videos are pretty cool too.
@FatherSaunders3 жыл бұрын
@@Gruntvc Thank you for the reply. Yes I also have Deathwing and have watched all of the most notorious one "Space Marine". I liked Deathwing but it was too damn hard for me after many tries but the grimdark, fun, graphics and atmosphere are there. At the time when player was adjusting to game (not the other way around in modern garbage) combat system combined with animations blew people away. Witcher has wonderful dubbing (I guess only Polish), cool, cool combat system for a time and I play it till today. I for one was surprised how loose and unfocused Witcher 3 is. The story wrestles the open world for attention. Instead of adapting the progression system to an open world (and they were already halfway there - limited active skill slots, the need to find a master blacksmith for better gear), it's been crippled not to interfere too much (which it still does anyways). The crafting system exists only to split up relevant items into multiple pickups to fill the vast world. Alchemy was gutted to make it more convenient, but potion duration has been cut down so much that a bottle of water heals more HP total than a dedicated witcher potion. The chapter 4 slowdown in W1 was anticlimactic, but the entirety of W3 is like that! Go ahead and explore the inviting world as Marigold keeps repeating the urgency of your main mission every time you come back or travel to another region. W3 has excellent production values, but as far as system design goes it's the one that is barely acceptable unless you're a sucker for a nice world and good storytelling. Imagine the same game, with Bethesda dialogue and voice acting. What would you reccommend that for, to anyone? Sure, it looks pretty, but graphics whores were complaining about a downgrade a whole lot, so I wouldn't bet on that one either. Regarding fast travel and other "quality of life" stuff, I actually diskile the design direction to make everything as smooth and comfortable as possible, so the only possible challenge that remains is to press the prescribed button(s) at the exact times. FromSoft ARPGs have gone from being lost in a world that lets you improvise various tactics (DeS, DS1) to following a quest compass to the next boss that requires dodging 20 times in a row in between openings for any attack (Elden Ring). Your overall assessment of the game is all right, but at times you sound like a Far Cry player who stumbled into RPGs through W3.

I love how after all these years most people still compare this game's and Witcher 3's combat systems together, when they are talking about how CDPR could never make an enjoyable combat system, yet they always miss out talking about the actual worst they ever made, which was in Witcher 2. The Witcher still is amazing to me. This first game did a lot of amazing stuff. I especially like the Alchemy system. It was the bread and butter of the combat system. I was very disappointed with the second installment because of all the dumbed down elements. Alchemy in Witcher 1 has all these secondary ingredients which can provide extra buffs when using potions. I often hear the Beast, which is kind of a boss for the first chapter, kicks everyone’s ass. It doesn’t have to be this way though, you actually research each creature and learn about their weaknesses. The beast for example has a particular weakness to Aard. So without any handholding the game actually instructs you to level Aard. You have to pay attention though. To journal entries, to clues. Use your alchemy knowledge etc. It has a learning curve, but if you make some attempt to actually get into it’s mechanics you will have a blast.

Dude, Shani is the girl you take to that wedding in Witcher 3 Heart of Stone DLC. Great girl, much better love interest in Witcher 1 then Triss. Triss just wants to use that boy while Shani genuinly wants to help. Also, Witcher games happen after the books. Amnesia plot is not only there because you need to start fresh, but because Geralt actually dies in books. So kinda makes sense. Anyway, other then that, yeah, I collected those cards like YuGiOh. And it was quite funny, give the flowers to peasant girl and you get windmill sex. It didnt age really good I need to admit. Doing remake nowadays may result in getting retconned, unnecessary cash-grabbed, politicalized and neutralized to a point that it's not even worth the risk to participate in. I stared a new playthrough of this game about a week ago I lost my save so I decided what the hell let's play it again I haven't gotten very far yet but I'm enjoying it so much already.

I have a question for you, do you think video games are art?
@SyntheticMan3 жыл бұрын
Yes, of course. Though the question always turns to: "but is it high art?" And my answer is still yes. It's just another way for normies or pretentious people to be condescending to gamers.

I'll probably never play this one. It really has very few things going for it. Story is great and all but if I have to get through pain to see more story I'm not interested tbh. Doesn't look that appealing to the eye either. The Witcher 1 is a really hard sell.

The combat system is one of the best ever. It requires you to time your attacks and your skill as a player increases as well as the character's. You need to set up so that only a few enemies can attack you at once. You also have to know/choose the correct combat style to match the enemy. You also need to study up on Witcher lore. Geralt was killed in the last book and resurrecting him without memory was CDPR's way to continue the story unburdened. The elder races (elves, dwarves, monsters and so forth) lived in the world and the conjunction of spheres mixed humans into the world (or vice versa). Oh, and you should play it with polish voice acting and english subtitles.

imagine playing this janky game on a crappy pc on release like I did. But it's still one of the best games I have ever played.
