What Do The Devil's Own Do After Dark?
Haunted by the terrors of her experience with African witch doctors, school teacher Gwen Mayfield (Joan Fontaine, Rebecca) accepts an appointment as headmistress at the Haddaby School run by Alan Bax (Alec McCowen, Frenzy) and his sister Stephanie (Kay Walsh, Stage Fright). Gwen initially revels in the peacefulness she has found in the quiet English countryside but soon begins to sense "undercurrents." Before long, a local boy falls into a coma and Gwen discovers a voodoo doll impaled by pins. The danger that follows brings her face to face with witchcraft as a series of disasters unfold and lead her to the horrible truth.

I could imagine this film being the inspiration for Simon Pegg's "Hot Fuzz". A village, that is Postcard perfect, and occupied by people, who will kill anyone, who threatens to tarnish its reputation.

A beautiful film. The peaceful warm summer atmosphere in natural daylight of English countryside and its rural village community are expressed beautifully in pastels of yellows, pinks and oranges and rich shades of reds such as burgundy, cardinal, ruby red, carmine and scarlet that associate the theme of witchcraft, power and danger. The pastels later become saturated hues in lower contrast and hard lighting within gothic settings alongside the same shades of red. Filmed in what seems to be 16:9 tv and video ratio the medium wide shot angles (master shots) capture the green pastures of the landscape and characters from top to bottom while at other times from mid chest to just above the head (medium close ups ) to avoid showing distractions but capturing character details such as costume, hair and facial expressions that express emotions.

They weren't internally being racist, it is a product of it's time and it wasn't seen as racist then, if it was they wouldn't have done it.

@@MephProduction this may be a cult classic and a film to study, but it compeletly was a product of it's time, it was the 60s of course they were being racist, only white people would have seen it as not , they even state "black withcraft" in the trailer- no such thing. Voodoo devils terrorizing a white woman? Racism has been around since the 14th-15th century

It was written in the POV of a white person, and didn't the Americans start black slavery? Not the other way around Regardless of the original source it is still racist
