I never could understand why people hate the song so much. I think it's beautiful, and perfectly suits the erotic yet tragic mood of the love scene it plays through (tragic because the romance is ultimately impossible due to her vampiric circumstances).

Because the guy who played Niles famously said this is the worst movie ever made, and he was mindlessly quoted by writers who had never seen the movie. It's pretty damned good for a vampire movie and Yutte Stensgaard is the sexiest vampire ever!
