Imagine the vocal power behind the performers singing these powerful songs for so many hours twice a day for over 1000+ performances. Not to mention Stephanie Mills is dancing with a sprained ankle. That takes major focus and dedication. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE WIZ

#true she did have a sprained ankle that took dedication and that Ms Stephanie is "dedicated"🥰❤️🖤💚did you see her verzuz with Chaka Khan? How sista Chaka was drunk high or both and was forgetting the words to her own songs, she was stumbling around and Stephanie just put her arm around her and helped her out by helping her sing her songs and reminding people that it wasn't a battle but a celebration of two singers making it in showbiz it was awesome Stephanie is awesome Chaka is too but she has to lay off that stuff she didn't even know where she was, Stephanie redirected her in love so many times that day🥰❤️🖤💚#if you drink or smoke control it don't let it control you

We have pictures with her as well. It was an amazing experience & I'll never forget it. P.S. keep in mind Stephanie was only 15 years old when this play came out & her voice was that powerful then! This version is still better than the current 2023-24 revivals casting, singing and dialouge wise. The new one doesn't seem polished imo. No toto, no Uncle Henry and no flying monkeys. There isn't much difference; I saw it in 1975 and in 1984. Renee Harris was great, but Stephanie Mills was the 'real' Dorothy. When the movie came out, I was very dissapointed. The singing and dancing was great, but there were too many changes from the play. I think I would have enjoyed the movie more if I hadn't seen the play first (four times!)

@@stephaniemills_fanpage yeah I do that a lot lol. Except for me I've gotten so used to singing with certain voices along. I start being able to use them even when I'm not singing with a recording. When I was younger (I mean I still am young lol) I used to wonder...why do I sound so much like them, but i eventually figured it out haha.

To critics in 2024 comparing the quality of this play to those who had money and please understand this was in the 1970s... Nobody believed the wiz would go anywhere...

This is the 1984 revival, the original 70s Broadway show had big, colorful, and beautiful sets. The budget for this specific Broadway revival was low because it was never intended to go to Broadway, it was just a bus and truck tour at first.

There are so many pro shot recordings from the original Broadway run and the revivals but archives, estates, and creative team members won’t give them up.

I like this. I would like it even more if I could understand everything they are saying in it. And see clearly. The film is uploaded, too, and while it doesn't stand at the play's stature in pop culture history, it is at least fully uploaded with clarity. That said, I enjoy both.

I love this....but I guess they couldn't use a lot of top lighting and had to use the spotlight to compensate. The movie was adapted quite a bit from the play. I noticed for the movie they slowed down the fast songs and sped up the slow ones. It's so cool to see a young Stephanie Mills. Her energy (all of their energy) is high voltage!
