The reason why he is a Tin man is because, in the story he was once a real man and a woodcutter named Nick Chopper. He fell in love with a woman in Munchkinland. He and her wanted to get married, but his lover's lazy sister didn't want her to leave. So the sister asked the Wicked Witch of the East to deal with him. So the witch cursed his axe. So next time he used it, it began to chop him up. Then the blacksmith quickly found him and saved him the only way he knew how: By rebuilding him out of tin!

Fun Fact: Buddy Ebsen was the original Tin Man, but the aluminum dust from the makeup nearly killed him, and he was quickly replaced by Jack Haley.
@MaskedMan66
@MaskedMan66 3 жыл бұрын
A fact, but not a fun one. It kicked off a bronchial condition he had, and two weeks in an oxygen tent in hospital and a few more weeks at home put him right. He went straight on to make two movies that were released in 1939. Jack Dawn reformulated the make-up into an aluminum paste so the same thing wouldn't happen with Jack Haley.

0:53 it was pointed out to me that there is a peacock in the background of this scene that wasn't actually supposed to be there. It wandered on set from somewhere else and is just chilling in the back! It's past the tin man's right shoulder.

It's called a Sarus Crane I think. Because the set was constructed indoors but was supposed to feel alive and oudoors, the Crane was placed on set in the background to make the set feel more alive. The Crane becomes more visible in a few shots after this scene.
