The lack of Selena Gomez and a story focusing on Justin is one thing but the series idea to me is what might ruin this series. One, Justin fought the hardest to keep his powers, sometimes even sabotaging his siblings to do so. For him to suddenly give them up would already ruin the pretty picture perfect ending the series had where despite all odds, got to keep his powers. Just to give them up? I get that in that moment he came to terms with the idea of living a life without powers once he opted to tell the truth and let Alex win but that feeling probably lasted for a few seconds before becoming the head of wiztech, which by the way: HES THE HEAD OF WIZTECH, that sounds like a much more amazing idea to take the series. Plus that means him and Juliet aren’t together since wizards can’t date mortals, hence why his dad gave up his powers too, and why I’m assuming he won’t have powers in the reboot. I get that Bridget Mendler probably isn’t on board with the reboot but still Juliet could have been at least like a character he name drops from time to time. Or if not, have them break up off screen between the events of both shows and you have the wiggle room to focus on a new relationship in the show. My biggest issue with reboots is that most of them focus less on the character we grew to love and turns those characters into more parental/mentor figures for a whole new cast who become a bigger focus for the show. Girl meets world, ravens home (sometimes), fuller house. Plus the fact that Younger characters are written worse than they were back then due to shows trying to be more trendy with TikTok lingo and such. To me reboots should be a continuation of a “story” I know there’s not much of a “story” in sitcoms but picking up from where things left off and going with what worked to me feels for a better product. You can try new things and introduce new characters, sure but make them fit into the existing world and characters better. This is something I feel the Icarly reboot did pretty well. It had some new characters, brought back lots of old ones, and the characters matured but were still who they were in the original series, maybe some jokes didn’t land but it felt like a good continuation of the original series. TLDR; I don’t have the biggest hopes for this show, I hope to be pleasantly surprised though.

But seasons 5 and 6 intrigued me, I watched them and LOVED it, I kinda wish the show started like this! It became such a comfort show, the new cast is SO GOOD, I wished we had more of them. I wasn’t too big of a fan of Nia, she never gave me Raven’s child vibes, Booker had that perfect Raven energy, you KNOW that’s her son, but Nia was funny sometimes when I watched a few seasons 3-4 episodes. I was a Tess HATER, the whole blaccent thing threw me off, I wasn’t a fan at all, I did sorta ship her with Booker for an episode, and she sorta grew on me as I watched seasons 3-4. Levi was good in the beginning, but got boring to me as he grew up. Seasons 5-6’s new cast makes it feel like a PROPER That’s So Raven spin-off. Booker is like a new Raven, Neil is a new Chelsea, Ivy is a new Eddie, Alice is a new Cory, we got the dad back, and Raven is RAVEN! Although I will say Neil, Ivy, and Alice can stand on their own, they’re not carbon copies of the originals, but it works so well, I love them so much! It’s a shame people didn’t give them a chance and are in the “I miss the og cast mode” when this one is WAY better, could have used more Chelsea though🥲

I hated Justin as the years progressed and after how he treated Alex in the end, he did not deserve his powers. Alex was manipulative and selfish, but you constantly see how she tries to change and the good things she did. People constantly called her out on stuff, but she tried sitting with it and learning how she hurt people. She wanted to fix her mistakes. And some situations like the taxi cab episode cane from a good place. The fact that she thought she had to get rid of a side of herself was so sad to me. Justin got away with way more than Alex did and felt more selfish and never ruminated on the decisions they made. God, when he ruined any if Alex’s achievements, that pissed me off.

Honestly, Max would make more sense narratively - he has the mirror to the original of owning the family business and having lost his powers, but he actually lost the competition rather than giving up his powers, and never really expected to win for most of his life anyway. You could do some really interesting things set up and relationship wise, like having Alex and/or Justin's kid(s) stay with him for reasons such as one of them having already lost their wizard competition and him taking them in rather than them having to stay with their magic using parents in the magic realm, or Justin or Alex being away somewhere on important business and setting their kid up for a Sabrina the Teenage Witch situation with their uncle Max. The OG parents could keep popping in and out causing issues as they overstep with the shop now they've handed it over, or the dad causing issues with Max's kids by encouraging rivalry for the wizard competition when Max has otherwise raised them to be relatively chill about it. You could have that whole situation compounded by auntie Alex and uncle Justin taking the kids out on magic related excursions and trying to convince the kids their way is better than the eachother's. You could have a strained or distant relationship between Max and one or both of his siblings and his own kids feeling more conflicted about the competition because they don't want to grow apart like that when one of them loses. You could have Justin get sacked from his job and have to give up his powers as the job was the only reason he got to keep them, and then have the conflict of him coming back to live with Max and trying to take over the shop and being super bitter about losing his magic while Max is at peace with it.

​@AB23YT What are you talking about? Justin was a good brother to Alex in the earlier seasons. He was a know-it-all, but he cared deeply about Alex, loved, and protected her. He wasn't insufferable or entitled. In the fourth season, he treated Alex so horribly. Season 1 Justin and Season 4 Justin are two COMPLETELY DIFFERENT CHARACTERS. Season 1 Justin would have never ignored Alex and treated her coldly after their "secret was exposed." He would have been initially pissed, but he'd talk it out with Alex and realize HIS mistake and that they were both at fault. He would never have ceased communication with her for THAT long. Come on! Did we watch the same show?

I'd love it if they made it so that the old show is an alternate timeline where Justin and Juliet became endgame and in this timeline, Justin declined getting his powers back leading to the events of the revival! Justin never becomes a professor and the dumb Stevie storyline never happens but becomes a plot point later down the line. This way, that storyline gets an easy fix, the revival can do anything they want AND we get a storyline where the characters travel to different timelines!

My Wizards of Waverly Place reboot idea: Justin starts a class for wizards who lost their Family Wizard Competition to give them a second chance to compete against each other to see who deserves to be a full wizard! The 16 year old protagonist Adin (a male Alex Russo) and Jessie (a female Justin) would convince Justin to let Max join the class. Adin secretly starts a Wizard Revolution behind Justin’s back, because he does not want to give up his magic again, and wants to ABOLISH the Family Wizard Competition (just like Stevie). I’d want the series to be a story-driven comedy on Disney Plus, rather than a Disney Channel sitcom.

The original show ended with a good ending, and I don't really see a point to it, unless they want to do something new or have new stories to tell with the characters, I don't see the point. It also seems odd to have Alex as a guest star and not an MC considering she was the face of Wizards. It's like if the iCarly reboot didn't have Carly in it and instead Millicent took it over. Not only that it completely seems to waste the idea of Justin being the head of Wiz Tech and magic, as there could literally be a plot or arc about him wanting to change the corrupt and quite frankly stupid Wizard system, not to mention reeling his character back to being likable since it's no secret that he became an unlikable character in the final two seasons. (Not as bad as other Disney Channel characters like Cody Martin who had the worst derailment of any character, but still bad) this isn't looking good for the reboot. Even if they wanted to focus on new cast, at least make the leads of the previous show have some purpose or serve as guides in a way. Otherwise, it alienates the audience that loved it. As a side note you forgot about Frankengirl where Justin is an asshole there and his worst appearance in the show being Alex's Logo.

I was happy about the reboot until i read "justin living a normal life" I'm like wait what??! He's a wiztech professor?!! Why are they changing it. Doesnt make sense. And i agree justin was rude in season 4 just because he wanted to be a wizard. Yet he became a wiztech professor. Now the writers dont want him to oh come on disney 🙄 i wanted to see alex and her life as a full wizard. 🥺 traveling with harper and harper publishing the book. If the show was about Jerry & Theresa & how they got together but at the end of the episode we see the real parents sitting walking about their lives before they had kids. Even the fact that he ends up in the same position as his dad which he once laughed at makes a lot of sense. He became wiztech dean or whatever and kept his powers and probably realized he still wasn’t happy in life. He was so determined to keep his powers for so long, lost, and still managed to keep em by luck. He probably realized that he semi-accomplished his goal but what’s next now. He Starts dating a girl and realizes he wants to settle down And through having kids who would also end up being wizards he could still teach them how to use their powers the same way his dad did.

I also dont mind sequel series of past shows but they have to make sure to be separate enough of an entity from the previous show because otherwise it is likely to fall into a category of just being a moneygrab

Honestly, I could see it. I remember feeling second hand disrespect after listening to him recount the story of how he got cast as Justin. It was basically; Imagine having your own show and you’re the leading character, during the casting process to find who’ll play your sister, in comes this girl named Selena who the higher ups are so enamored by that they completely scrap your show, rewrite/remake it into a different show where that girl is now the lead, but not so bad, you can just go work for some other network and get paid good good money, right? oops not so fast, the contract you signed for your original show transferred over to that girls new show which legally requires you to take the roll if they want you in it. Which they did because why wouldn’t Disney take advantage of that situation.

I disagreed with the justin kinda rant. you see Justin being obnoxious towards alex at the end made sense considering the character arc he went through. He sacrificed his own powers and told the truth (obviously what justin has done the whole show) and he finally accepted Alex as matured as the older brother with that decision at the end, I thought it was a good full circle moment. Also you mentioned how it didn't make sense for Justin to lose his powers for love since he clowned his dad for doing the same but you gotta understand when Justin criticized his dad he was only a child, and with being a child your opinion and philosophy obviously changes so that's the easiest way to explain that part with simply Justin becoming mature as a adult and realizing what his dad meant and went through.

I really hate the idea of childhood shows being rebooted or remade. They are capitalizing on nostalgia and they do it wrong most of the time. I had watched the Icarly reboot and hated it. I didn't like it at all. The comedy felt forced even more so than the kid version. It just felt weird watching it. I refuse to see Zoey 102 for obvious reasons. I just don't think it lands the way they think it would. However, I am a little intrested in the wizards one. I liked Justin's character but idk how well it will be with him being the main character. I have 10% more hope for this show than I did the others. But in the back of my mind I feel like it wikl be terrible.

so many thoughts after watching this video; I think the reason for the questionable artistic direction - at least from what weve heard of - is pretty self-explanatory. David Henry I believe has directed/written episodes during the original series. Prior to his directorial works and expressing full blown interests to pivot into filmmaking and production. Perhaps, why those efforts to dissociate from the image, and additionally the cast members. might i add that the cast members are all industry professionals and seem to be very aware of and indeed have been very candid about the reality of the industry, most recently on the podcast. hence, why they will not be involved, or maybe were not offered to. I don't think Jake T Austin is acting still. and bridgit mendler, we know what shes up to. also, I think dan benson was simply being facetious about his character and his time on the show in contrast to his current endeavour. hes said that he now earns way more with of than as an actor, in general. Selena has served as the executive to various projects even outside of the Wizards film that was released right after the end of original series, to mixed results. she actually was a executive producer on a David Henry film from a few years ago. they probably have maintained a working relationship. in conclusion, this is most likely going to sh*ts. if it doesn't get immediately cancelled, its going to be another ravens home- whatever the f that was supposed to be

I'm willing to give it a chance but only if he gets an emotional pep talk from Alex where they reminisce and they talk about Justin bailing her out of problems and he notes with a bittersweet air, " yeah but you don't need me anymore" and Alex is like "yeah but there is someone that does". I just need that as the one who spent most of my childhood taking care of my siblings, nieces, and nephews. But it will probably be aimed at kids anyway. I'll watch the first EP just to see what it's like. Personally I also think it's weird to make a reboot without Justin and Alex both there. I do hope it will surprise me tho.

I love how in every argument a new point is raised on why this seems like it's not going to go well😭💔 I just don't like fixing what's not broken. Wizards of Waverly Place was a show that genuinely ended well. I don't think it was necessary for them to be brought back especially after how nicely it was wrapped up for the most part. Now you're bringing these characters back and changing their canon. I don't think many fans sit around wondering about what could've been. Justin at WizTech could've been explored so beautifully. There were so many stories that could've been explored more with what was already canon. Focusing more on the wizard world instead of the mortal world this time as compared to the original.

Like, somehow or another, he got reality-checked about the sort of person he'd turned into, and giving up his powers was something he did in the service of bettering himself, overcorrection or otherwise.

They should just do reunion miniseries for all these shows. Giving it a spinoff ruins it, mostly because the show has to add new characters to fill the void left by the orginal characters. Degrassi: The Next Gen is the only example I can think of where this works. Besides that, these reboots don’t have the same feel, because the need for it is based on nostalgia. You can't recreate sentimental longing. No matter what you do, it won't be the same. In my opinion, the best thing they can do is a reunion mini-series. Give the audience what they want, but don't drag it out. EDIT: I forgot to mention that I really enjoy your content. It’s so engaging!!

I don’t think it’s fair to say the cast doesn’t get along just because they don’t all appear in things. David had scheduling conflicts when Alex VS Alex was filming. Also a lot of times actors and actresses know about things way ahead of time but can’t say anything due to contracts they have to sign, like legally they can’t say anything until a certain time so it’s possible all the main cast knew about the reboot happening but legally could not say anything. I could see why the actor that played Justin’s friend wouldn’t know because he wasn’t like a main character of the original cast. Also regarding what you said about David wanting focus to be on him because originally wizards was meant to be a completely different show with him as the focus I’m not sure that’s true either. A lot of the time actors and actresses don’t get a say on things writing wise. They just act out what’s written. I do even recall him saying he liked the way wizards turned out vs the original concept because it was more family oriented. Also since the reboot is supposed to focus on Justin with his family he’s probably not as bad as he was as the show went on because he probably matured a lot as a character through the years. I’m willing to give the show a chance and see what happens with it assuming it even gets picked up after the pilot airs.

It's not a surprise that Disney made Justin and Juliet Break up. Disney reboots don't include married teenage couples. In That's So Raven, Raven and Devon were a couple, while they got married and divorce, before the Raven's Home. However, Charlie Calvin had a girlfriend who appeared The Santa Clause 2 and mentioned in The Santa Clause 3. While in the Reboot The Santa Clause Charlie Calvin married someone else.

Personally I think that a wizards reboot could be really interesting if they put enough thought into it. The problem with most of these reboots is that they are just cash grabs mostly. They don't really have a clear vision of what they want to do or who they want to make it for. It's nostalgia bait but it's aimed at kids who never saw the og (probably in the hope that parents will make their kids watch it but the retention rate must be ass). They almost always choose shows that don't have much story left to tell and choose very same-y stories overall. But I think the world and story of WWP is interesting and unexplored enough that they could do an interesting story with it. They probably won't, but they definitely could. Obviously the show won't be the same without Selena as the main cast (personally I always thought of Alex and Justin as co leads. It's weird to have one without the other). I think they could do interesting things with Justin's character since he is an adult now and still had some glaring character flaws left to overcome. He still has a certain amount of hubris and potential for emotional drama. I can think of Alex based storylines that could probably work bc she is such a fun and likable character. But that would mean either redoing similar plots/arcs or making it a show aimed at adults (not necessarily lewd but a show that is actually about adults and aimed at adults like those 'working my 9-5, hanging with my besties, dating, and surviving in the big city' type shows except with her also juggling the magic and normal world). If you are planning to make a kids show then following Justin makes more sense since he has spent a lot of time training younger wizards. Getting Alex involved with young kids would probably take some more leg work and it would be hard to form plots bc who would teach the lesson if the mentor is Alex Russo. She's more likely to be involved in the shenanigans. Although it is kinda funny to imagine the magic school bus style show that would inevitably result from putting Alex in charge of kids. Anyway, my point is that, unlike other old shows, WWP does still have some story potential. I'm honestly regretting writing this post bc it made me think of like twenty way more interesting storylines that they could do. I think this reboot will probably end up squandering all of its potential though.
