Caitlin Clark was disrespected yet again, this time by being left off the Top 5 in the latest WNBA MVP Ladder. Caitlin and the Indiana Fever have been on fire since the break, and much of their success can be attributed to Caitlin's play.
Caitlin is leading the entire league in points generated, so should be MVP over A'ja Wilson? And how should the MVP be judged moving forward?
Let me know in the comments!

As a forward, her fg percent is barely better than Clark's. They've both had 2 triple-doubles on the year. That's the only thing that get's Thomas the nod for consideration but seems to matter nothing for Clark. Half of Thomas' games she scores in single digits while Clark has had just four. You are so right about Caitlin Clark. Not only is she MVP based on how she has made a lowly team grow exponentially. She has helped the entire league more than any other player. She has blown up the Attendance records and TV viewership. I never watched a WNBA game before and I am College Coach and had a daughter on the Baylor 05 Championship team. She is single handedly is making the entire WNBA to make way more income, especially her own team. Big TV contracts are coming and thank CC for that. She also is doing all this while being physically and verbally attacked every game/day. So she is the most inspirational to the l young girls who will now want to become WNBAers. CC is the MVP by far. One last comment is that as a Coach, my favorite stat is Assists. Assists mean that person is a team player. Not only does CC have the most Assists, she has the most backcourt, long distant assists that nobody can match in volume or accuracy, or even attempts. As my favorite Coach, Coach Mulkey said: "CC is a generational player!". I watch every Fever game now because it is so entertaining and fun to watch CC play and see what incredible plays CC will cone up with during each game! The WNBA needs to wake up and and not be woke!

Yes A’ja dominates but look at assists again. 2.4 vs 8.5? But the real thing that you won’t see in those stats is how much Caitlin struggled at the start of the season due to extremely poor coaching (still an issue) and poor communication with her teammates. A’ja is on a team with a bunch of Olympians and they are all veteran players. To me that makes her less valuable. The term MVP is extremely misleading. There is no single player in the WNBA more valuable to their team (or the entire league) than Caitlin Clark.

Here’s the thing. None of those women, caused or attracted new fans, increased viewership or TV ratings. They are NOT responsible for sell out arenas in 2024, or help instantaneously make the WNBA prosperous and increased their revenue. This all happened because of the 2024 draft class and the performance of Caitlin Clark. The other women are talented players, but Caitlin Clark’s game, is so much different than the rest of them. She’s an amazing passer, good ball handling skills, excellent shooter that can score, even beyond the 3-point line, including the logo’s. She’s “must see” TV, and people will travel to see her place in person. Or, they’ll tune in and watch her and the Indiana Fever play, just to see something amazing happen, and generally the fans won’t be disappointed. But I heard of this Caitlin Clark. Watched her in the College playoffs earlier this year and loved her game. I've watched every game she's played this year. Exciting. Now I know a lot of other Great Players in the League. Because She sells out every Arena in every City she plays. Oh, BTY, I'm a Black man who loves All Sports.

When real talent arrives, it has to be recognized.... here is an example: I am only a FAN. I attended Stanford Univ baseball games in the 80's. I saw outgoing-senior players PLAY the game (because the coach wanted these players to get noticed by SCOUTS for the majors)... This preferential treatment was as a courtesy to the upper-classmen players. And there were freshman players who were really good... but had do sit out while a senior player played.... That does not happen today at Stanford... Stanford coaches put their BEST PLAYERS on the field at all times. That means: their 4th at bat could be a GREAT FRESHMAN, or their best catcher is a FRESHMAN..... they want the best on the field.... --> Caitlin is in the WNBA... and just because this is her first year (does not mean that she is on a learning curve, learning how to play with the BIG GIRLS, or gaining experience as she enters the WNBA). She is already an ACE... She is as good as the best of them..... Dont give any professional courtesy to the LADIES in the WNBA just because they have been in it a few years ... To select an MVP, go after the measureable traits: passes the ball, includes her team mates, makes plays by passing, takes shots, advances the ball..... advances the team..... Avoid the mistakes made during the 2024 Olympics: "SHE" is going because she has been on Team USA 2 times before , or 3 times before, etc.... If the newly arriving players are good, dont apply deference based on AGE or "VETS of the WNBA".... select the best. USA Track Runners dont get selected because they have been to the Olympics 2 times before..... They have to QUALIFY to participate in each OLYMPICS

Thanks for the genuine conversation on the MVP topic. CC is invaluable to the Fever’s success-impacting their stats, coaching mentality, and financial growth. Beyond that, she's a cornerstone for the WNBA’s image, media deals, merchandise, and raising salaries across the league. Despite facing envy and criticism from the media, veterans, coaches, and retired players, her contributions are undeniable. If the Fever finishes in the top 4 this playoff season, recognizing her should be the easiest decision the league has ever made.

It will take a very special miracle for the Fever to advance very far into the playoffs. Their perimeter defense (or lack there of) allows too many wide open threes to be made against them, and that puts a lot of pressure on our 3 point shooters. And then there's the elephant in the room. Christie Sides. I don't think that she's capable to coach in championship games. There is no depth on the bench so the players that are subbed in kill any momentum the starters have built. Maybe if Sides learns to coach a Caitlin style of play, and they build a team that will work in that kind of system, they will have a chance in a few years. But there's a lot of ifs in that scenario.

@@mikehall4517the main issue is the coach. Sides is in over her head and is the worst at adjustments, keeping leads. Not to mention the bad half court offenses that the Fever try to run. However, in a way that thought is positive as to her status this year and in the future. A win this year would be greeted with scorn and derision by most of the stalwarts of the league. Caitlin is my pick. She’s leading the league in assists because she’s elevating everyone on her team. Rather than taking every opportunity for herself, she’s making sure to lift her team/teammates up with her. And on top of all this, all the records she’s shattering, all the attention she’s getting(negative and positive), she is elevating the ENTIRE WNBA league. You are living with your head in the sand if you don’t recognize the amount of recognition Caitlin Clark has brought. Don’t hate on her because you don’t “like” her(rightly or wrongly), realize that her impact to the entire league is unprecedented. Stats: individually as a rookie & in the WNBA. 2. Influence on the game: Double - triple team, received the most fouls. 3. Impact: Increase in attendance in every game at home and on the road. 4. Impact on the team: from below to 6th current standing & a playoff team, a floor general for every game both on her team and the All Stars. 5. Consistency: Helping her team in wins. 6. Narrative: TV Ratings, viewership, most talked in the media, children line up for autographs, popularity, increased ticket sales & price, change of venues. 7. Marketability, increased sponsorships, major endorsements. 8. Involvement in foundations. Tick any above # that A’ja or the others have accomplished in their WNBA career. Also, I can say the "Splash Sisters" (CC & KM) has arrived in the WNBA. Caitlinsanity is real & alive. Caitlin is currently 1st in scoring (692) among all Rookies, Guards, and 5th overall Caitlin is currently 1st overall in assists @ 306 (11 away from setting a new regular season record) Caitlin is currently 1st in rebounds (209) among Guards, 3rd among Rookies, and 16th overall. A rant about how the season will look in rewind: Caitlin Clark will have the most assists in a single season, most three pointers made in a single season, most points generated in a season, most twenty-point double-doubles that include assists in the history of every player that has ever played in the league, most points recorded by a rookie in a 40-game season. Take a breath, there is more. Leads her team in minutes played, points per game, assists per game, free throw percentage, steals, points and assists off turnovers, three pointers made, leads the league in flagrant fouls suffered, will hold the all-time record for most 3's made from 30+ feet, and will hold the highest shooting % in that category as well. Also, player of the week, player of the week, player of the week, player of the month, rookie of the month, rookie of the month, rookie of the week, rookie of the week, rookie of the week, All-star game starter, first player to ever average 19pts 8ast 5reb for a season, and those numbers are assuming that she has merely average games going forward. Has faced the most blitzes by opposing teams in the history of any single player in the league, a record that was set with 12 games remaining in the season. We aren't even close to done. The players on her team who play significant minutes are all recording career years, her team has already won more games than the last two seasons combined. She is a rookie, and only 22 years old, and she is changing the way that people approach statistical measurement by making the improbable look almost ordinary. Despite the league stacking the schedule against her, despite the constant pressure she has faced both on and off the court, about which the league has shown surprisingly little support, and regardless of how blatantly teams try to injure her or the refs ignore her mistreatment, she has become better than anyone was willing to imagine and more vital to her team and the league as a whole as the season has progressed. We can ignore all of this and imagine a world where fans like me would somehow be writing something similar to this as response to a video about another WNBA rookie were Caitlin Clark not a part of this rookie class in some mirror universe, but the reality is that we do not live in a mirror universe. This is our timeline, and every single award where the league refuses to recognize Caitlin Clark, opportunities that by their nature she will never have another opportunity to accomplish, diminishes the accomplishments of the women who set the records that Clark is now smashing. These are opportunities that may never come again to recognize greatness in real time. Caitlin missed an opportunity to go to the Olympics as a rookie because of bias, has endured the league mandated bullying of all of this year's rookie class with grace, bullying that has seen several bright stars from this class go down with injuries, and now seems to be trying to write Clark out of history again by ignoring her absolutely absurd value to her team, this league, and sports in modernity. Not just women's sports, but all sports. As Diana Taurasi said, "there are levels to this..." and Clark is exposing how the league seeks to limit young players in a way that forces them to accept the same oppression that they have historically endured as some rite of passage that more accurately resembles a cattle branding. They speak out against oppressive systems with force and fervor, yet they refuse to look inward and acknowledge that they have built a novel form of systematic oppression into the foundations of the culture that is promoted throughout the league as it is now evolving. I would ask what example this is setting and point to the fact that Clark has not given a single interview where she has spoken negatively of any of the entities involved and whether fairness and competition have a different definition among folks affiliated with the WNBA. But unfortunately, the people to speak about why this pattern of behavior exists, those elite few who hold the reins of power in WNBA circles, are not accepting questions at this time.

The criteria for being selected as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the WNBA are primarily based on the following factors: 1. **Individual Performance**: The player's individual statistics are crucial. This includes points per game, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, shooting percentages, and overall efficiency. MVP candidates typically excel across multiple statistical categories. 2. **Impact on Team Success**: The player's contribution to their team's success is a significant factor. MVPs are often from teams that finish near the top of the standings. Their performance is seen as pivotal to their team's achievements during the regular season. 3. **Consistency**: MVP candidates demonstrate consistent excellence throughout the season. They perform at a high level in the majority of games, not just in a few standout performances. 4. **Leadership and Intangibles**: Beyond stats, the MVP is often a leader both on and off the court. This includes setting an example for teammates, making clutch plays, and being a key factor in critical moments of the game. 5. **Versatility and All-Around Game**: While some MVPs may be dominant in one area, many MVP winners are versatile players who contribute in various aspects of the game-scoring, defense, playmaking, and leadership. 6. **Voting Process**: The MVP is selected through a voting process, typically involving sportswriters, broadcasters, and sometimes coaches. Each voter ranks their top candidates, and the player with the highest point total is named MVP. 7. **Historical Context and Narrative**: Sometimes, the narrative surrounding a player's season-overcoming adversity, achieving historic milestones, or leading a dramatic turnaround for their team-can influence MVP selection. Ultimately, the WNBA MVP award goes to the player who is deemed the most valuable to their team and to the league during the regular season, combining individual excellence with team success.

The "V" is for Valueable. Caitlin Clark is bringing advertisers, viewers and sponsors to the league like no one ever has before. She is responsible for BIG BUCKS!! She is the financial MVP for sure!

Exactly why nobody watches the WNBA. Even the league is biased. Do they not understand that all the attention they have this year is because of Caitlyn? And do they not see stats? Do they not see that her stats are crazy? She is breaking records game after game. If she is not in the top 1-3, then I think it is biased. And to me A'ja is not the runaway MVP. She has competition and not just from Caitlyn. If the league cannot even put aside their bias, then the rest of the league has no hope. Like you, I think Caitlyn should be #2...not honorable mention.

Sure they understand. This is like Disney and their DEI. They could care less about anything but pushing their own agenda. Now, if Caitlyn wasn't white ... or a heterosexual woman ... or had been arrested for drugs .. well then it would be no problem.

A'Ja is a DOMINATING player at 6'4, 190lb - she's like the Lebron of the WNBA. BUt I would argue that Caitlin could be #1 in terms of VALUE to her team and the WNBA in general!!

This is a great take. By examining all the nuances and subjectivity of this award you do a great job of breaking down the MVP race. I'm a huge Catlin fan but my eyes tell me Aja is the clear winner. That's no disrespect to CC or Collier it's just the level and consistency Wilson is playing at are elite.

Aja is not as important to her team as caitlin is to the Fever. Aja just score, and she is scoring bigtime but her team is losing. caitlin makes her team a lot better, she is the offensive playmaker, she makes her team win. The fever team was the same last year, and they were the worst team in the league. With just caitlin added this year, they are now going to the playoffs in 8 years and now they have a winning win record. Everybody is afraid to say the favorite AJA is not the MVP of this year especially if the other choice is Caitlin because of politics. There really is a force in the media and WNBA organization who wants to ignore or minimize caitlin's impact and accomplishments in this season, perhaps the...dark force?

You could also ask who is the most valuable player to the league. This is clearly Caitlin. So many of us wouldn't be watching or commenting on this video before Clark came along. I wouldn't know who A'ja was if it wasn't for Caitlin. In fact, I wouldn't be able to name a single WNBA player except for Brittney Griner, and her for reasons unrelated to basketball.

I watched her play for the first time last week against the Sparks, honestly it was the very first WNBA game I've ever watched, & I only watched it because I decided to place a bet on her to make over 3.5 3pt shots. I've been paying attention to CC, her stats & the WNBA standings all year just because of her though. She is legit good, especially for just a rookie & definitely the unanimous ROTY. Imo, she plays nothing like Curry though, even though that's who she gets compared to the most. She reminds me more of like a mixture of Luka & Trae Young. She has the ball like 99% of the time, it reminded me of how people play MyCareer in NBA 2K. She complains a lot too, even to her own teammates (I wonder if they get annoyed lol). I saw several plays where as soon as she passes them the ball, she starts yelling & swinging her arms around. She turned the Fever around though, I wouldn't be surprised if they actually make a deep Playoffs run this year & be a legitimate contender already by next year. You gotta consider the lack of teams, there are only 12 teams, which means it's easier to make a run, & in their playoffs there are only 3 rounds. It's like back when Bill Russell was winning rings, there weren't many teams yet back then. WNBA is still in those kinds of earlier stages, as you see CC is already breaking a lot of records. She is going to be great though, Idk if I'd say she'll become the GOAT someday yet, but she definitely is on pace to become one of them. She could become like Wilt, where she just has all the crazy individual records & stats, but not win many rings.

I don't even think these people are sports fans tbh. All these comments about ratings and stuff tell me they have no idea what an MVP award is in sports. I'm not a CC hater either, I think what she has done is impressive for sure and she deserves to be in the mvp discussion but Aja has dominated the league this year and will be the mvp legitimately. Clark is the future but Aja is the present in her absolute prime.

@@Steve-gu4nb 100% lol they make it too easy to tell who is a fan of the sport of basketball and Clark as an extension, and who is just here solely because of Clark. She is an incredible talent who will undoubtedly win an MVP or two, maybe even three, but A’ja is the best offensive unit in the W atm and might even be the best on the defensive side as well. If not her it’s probably Collier and then I’d be comfortable with Clark or maybe Stewie. Crazy that having Clark behind the likes of A’ja or Collier in her rookie season is considered hate 😂

The fact that the fever was previously the worst team and are now in the playoffs says it all that CC22 is the key player of the team's success. CC22 definetly deserve to be in the MVP conversation. Most of us are new fans of the WNBA and we are always rooting for the underdogs.

I've stopped trying to understand how the WNBA defines "value". The MVP award is particularly superfluous. Value you to whom? Every team has a MVP. And seriously, how to you decide one teams MVP is more valuable than anyone else's? While it gathers accolades for the winner, I think it's nonsense. It ends up being a divisive and controversial PR stunt.

I agree with your take on it. Caitlin should definitely be on the ballot. As for MVP, it's not Most Skilled Player or MSP award. Caitlin is by far the most Valuable player not only for her team, but actually for the entire WNBA. She is singlehandedly packing arenas from coast to coast which benefits every team and the WNBA as a whole. People young and old and in between now actually watch WNBA games, and especially if the Fever is playing in them. Teams fly charter now because of Caitlin being swamped at the airports, and this is a long overdue change that benefits all the players and teams. Oh, and by the way, she is setting new WNBA records almost every time she comes onto the floor. So who else could possibly be providing that level of value to her team, to all WNBA players, and to the league itself? Hands down, it's Caitlin Clark.
