Wow, thanks man! I'm glad you guys didn't take this video as me "dunking" on the WNBA. I'm a believer in the league. I just can't support the players' level of condescension, entitlement, and dishonesty, especially because it's coming from grown adults. That's probably the biggest thing holding the league back too.

@@TREESEhoops bro no way, this is one of the most fair videos I've heard on the topic. The truth is that sports are a business and that usually if a business can't find a market it flops. It's so weird that the league will find every reason to blame for their lack of success besides the product. The NBA has changed so much over the years in ways that many fans hate, but the changes bring in views which ultimately = money. I think if the WNBA player were more realistic about the root causes of their shortcomings they could also change their product and see more success!

You take an NBA player, and they go on a podcast or TV interview, they go out and talk about how fun they have with the game, how much they enjoy the competition, the struggle working hard to get where they are. Then you see a WNBA player on a podcast, or TV interview, they are non stop complaining, bitching about men not giving them respect, how underpaid they are, they are so unlikable I don't even want to give them a chance.

If women cared enough to spend their money in support, the WNBA would make profits. However, women spend the majority of their money on cosmetic products, overpriced bags, and surgeries. We are all approaching the problem of the ring height the wrong way. We can’t lower it because then the players can’t compete or play internationally where they follow the ten feet standard. If they get used to the lower rim then how will they compete in olympics or world championships where everyone else is used to the ten feet standard? Only way to solve this is that the world has to change the height and force the wnba to follow because they won’t be able to adjust if the rest of the world uses a lower rim.

I remember when the WNBA began and it had TONS of advertising and television coverage. But, as time passed, it became clear that very few people were watching it. The sad truth is that virtually all of the people saying that they should be paid more aren't going to games or watching. And we know because we have the numbers. Like you said, the league needs to do some honest self reflection and start taking steps to improve their product. Laying blame on consumers is always a losing strategy and alienates a lot of potential customers.

The WNBA started out strong but fell off as more people figured out what it was. The NBA started out relatively unpopular but grew significantly as it aged and grew marketable stars. That situation is a mirror for how society views men and women. Women start out on top when it comes to value simply because they are young, attractive females-and they can either capitalize on it or decline. Men start out with relatively little worth and are only valued for what they can build.

@Mark Lester Gatchalian they need to do more than that, they need to turn it into a different sport. Look at softball, the WCWS gets more views annually than the CWS, why is that? It's because softball is more fast paced than baseball. Women aren't as strong or as fast or have the reaction time as quick as men, so they make the ball bigger and yellow, pitch underhand, bases closer, fence much closer to allow HRs...you watch softball and you don't see inferior athletes playing the same game as the men, you see an entirely different game. Imagine if they decided no more softball and they had to play on a field like the men, with reg baseballs? It would be painfully obvious that the product is not as good. Agreed they should get paid more...not the players but the referees, water boys, the sweepers, cameramen, and specially the team mascots. They keep supporting an organization that's been on life support ever since it was born.

She has a point about getting a percentage of her jersey sales… the only problem is, it doesn’t sell, or sell enough. What I’m trying to get from what she’s saying or wanting is she wants her share of her brand, all the while throwing the organization that’s giving her, her platform, under the bus. Under this idea, the WNBA’s agreement to take in the majority of any profit is understandable. They’re trying to keep their platform afloat, giving these woman a chance to shine, and they in turn just wants to bite the hand that feeds them.

I'm willing to bet there has to be a certain number of jerseys sold before it becomes profitable to pay individual players a percentage. I imagine they break it down by league, if the sell enough, then by team, once again if they sell enough they can break it down by player. It's not worth the vendors time to add up each individual sell. I imagine the league in general is eating some of the cost on merchandise sales. They want it available to fans because it's good advertisement, but their not making money selling jerseys.

What's stopping her from creating Kelsie Plum merch? Those jersey sales as low as they are... are used to cover other expenses for the league. Plus no one would care who Kelsie Plum is if it weren't for the WNBA

The first WNBA game with a 9’0” rim would be the most watched game in WNBA history. You’d get dunks, easier putbacks, easier layups, higher scores… but naw… just keep hoping people will watch. Working great so far.
