When he talks about why singaporeans are kiasu and why they need to be. Whoaaaa. Eyes opened. This guy is full of wisdom.

Agree with him. Hands down. I work in a VC and see the wave of challenges coming from the region - MY VN PH ID TH etc. Singapore cannot sustain itself if its people are complacent, our market is too small, if the quality of people also drops, its going to be difficult to compete on an regional and international level.

wow the biggest takeaway from me is that singapore is just 2 small and our bargaining power on the international stage comes from us not being complacent. noice!

That's probably 1 way it's easier to convince the populace to take up less popular government policies in Singapore than other democratic countries also I think. By arguing that otherwise, one is spoilt/delusional etc., because of the limitations that we but probably not other countries face. e.g. by saying that we lack natural resources so we can't afford a welfare state, or that because we are densely populated & lack land, we're better able to ignore NIMBYs or implore environmentalists to understand the need to balance conservation with development, or having the current tripartite arrangement (requiring most unions to register under the government-lined NTUC, having the Nat'l Wages Council require productivity gains before salaries are increased) born out of the immediate aftermath of the Hock Lee bus riots

Chanced upon this and loved this interview. Happiness is temporary n dependent on external situations whereas joy from within is more permanent like what ur job is giving u - the sense of fulfillment too. I can also tell that Anette was having her own thoughts as she listened to u, like ah-ha moments. Thank U for this!

👏 Great interview! When I saw that the length of the video was half an hour, I was about to leave because I thought this was gonna be long, boring, dry, esoteric and preachy. Fortunately I read comments saying it's insightful and watched. Wow. Thanks for interviewing Wei Choon, he is really very insightful, wise, articulate and interesting.

Money is like the petrol in your car. As long as you have enough to get you to your life's destination (whatever that may be for you), you don't need to earn more than that. Nobody ever cares about reaching their destination with as much gas left in the tank as possible. They only care about reaching their destination, period.
