The Wolves of Isengard Scene 2- The Two Towers

Legolas meanwhile is firing arrows from a long distance at the Wargs. He sees the horses coming up behind him. Quickly he turns, and grabs the strapping round Arod, and swiftly swings himself up into the saddle.
The wargs and riders clash and a battle commences. As Legolas rides through the wargs, firing arrows, Gimli slides from the horse. He picks up his axe and sees a Warg feeding on a dead man
GIMLI: Bring your pretty face to my axe.
The warg runs towards Gimli. Just as it pounces Legolas rides up beside it and kills it
GIMLI: That one counts as mine! (he turns to face another warg about to attack him. He swings his axe at it and kills it. It falls.... on top of him) Stinking creature.
The fighting continues. As Gimli tries to lift the warg off him, and orc appears from behind it. Gimli swiftly breaks his neck and the orc too falls on top of the warg on top of Gimli. He slowly lifts them both, and as he does a warg comes crawling over the top of the heap bearing his teeth. Aragorn, spotting the warg, rides over, grabs a spear and throws it at the warg killing it. This too falls on top of the heap. Gimli groans.
Theoden and Aragorn continue to fight and kill the orcs and the wargs. Suddenly a warg pounces on Aragorn, and pushes him off his horse. He jumps to his feet, just as an orc, riding a warg races past. He grabs the saddlery of the warg and pulls himself up behind the orc. They fight together as the warg continues to race along. Aragorn looses his seating, but holds on to the warg, reaching up and stabbing the orc. The orc falls off the warg, but Aragorn finds his hand caught in the warg's strapping. The warg is racing towards a cliff top, and shows no signs of slowing. He falls over the cliff taking Aragorn with him.
The battle is almost over. Gimli kills a warg. Theoden is looking around at the field of dead men and orcs. Legolas is walking around looking for Aragorn.
LEGOLAS: Aragorn!
GIMLI: Aragorn?
Theoden scans the field. Legolas walks towards the cliff top. He pauses to examine something on the ground and hears an orc laughing. The orc is dying
GIMLI: (raising his axe) Tell me what happened and I will ease your passing.
SHARKU: He's......dead. He took a little tumble off the cliff.
LEGOLAS: (kneeling down and grabbing Sharku) You lie.
Sharku dies. Legolas looks down at Sharku's hands and find the Evenstar in them. He looks worried, and runs to the edge of the cliff, where Theoden is already standing looking over the edge. They see a fast flowing river below and no sign of any bodies. Gimli joins them
Gamling walks up, and Theoden turns to him
THEODEN: Get the wounded on horses. The wolves of lsengard will return. Leave the dead.
Legolas looks at him disbelievingly. Theoden places a hand on his shoulder
THEODEN: Come.
He walks away, leaving Legolas, grasping the Evenstar, and Gimli, staring into the river.

Interesting fact: Viggo Mortensen almost drowned when they filmed the scene where unconscious Aragorn floats in the river. The river's current was stronger than everybody thought and this, combined with the hefty weight of his costume made him practically unable to extricate himself.

@@macysondheim Well, how 'bout this: Remember his one-on-one battle with the Uruk in Fellowship of the Ring? Remember how the creature throws his dagger at Aragorn, only for the man to deflect it with his sword? Well, that was actually Viggo Mortensen deflecting a projectile blade. The Uruk's actor was supposed to aim to miss, but he couldn't see well out of his heavy makeup and prosthetics, so he accidentally threw the blade right at Viggo, who then had to block it to save his life. Thus, that fight scene ended up more awesome than had originally been intended.

@@colinbaldwin313 lol those things aren’t even fully sharpened. They’re unsharpened on purpose since they’re movie props. So he would have just gotten injured if he didn’t deflect the accidental projectile, not died. So that’s not even very impressive either.

@@macysondheim Well, alright, you try almost drowning in a river and having to deflect projectile blades, even if they are unsharpened. Also, Viggo broke his toe in that Two Towers scene wherein he kicks the helmet; his scream in that moment is actually a scream of pain. It may not be sword-swallowing or human cannonballing, but acting can be a hazardous profession, and I think actors like Viggo deserve respect for what they've undergone to entertain us.

I love the details in the movies. Humans felt a certain fear towards elves as these creatures were practically unknown to them. You can see this in Theoden, who hesitates for a second before touching Legolas's shoulder, however ends up touching him to comfort him because his fear to unknown is less than his gratitude for all that Legolas had fight for his people

Im afraid thats not the truth , actually elves and men are more friendlier and brotherly than to dwarves or hobbits, after all men are the second chidren of eru. Its just that elves tend to keep their distance from men due to their nature. men are easily deceived, corrupted, because there were none to guide hmans when they woke up in middle earth as the valar was busy with nurturing and nursing elves So melkor was easily able to get men to follow darkness , but that same nature works otherwise too. once men are couraged they never loose hope nor do they accept defeat thats why men are highlighted. Otherwise elves prefer men over both dwarves and hobbits.its proven in early ages men were taught,trained and guided by elf teachings. And 'tuor,' a man was named among elves and we see many man-elf love affairs has been happening throughout ages of middle earth. The reason why theoden had second thoughts (tbh i dont see it much as a hesitation) is because they are forced to leave the dead behind that includes aragorn, since aragorn and legolas are more than team mates (best friends) theoden saw the grief and doubts on legolas' mind because legolas knew aragorn wasnt dead, you know because he is an elf with incredible senses and aragorn himself is a dunedain and a ranger (tough one to be killed like that), thats why theoden puts his hand on shoulder. its more of a acceptance than a comfort.

A warg is roughly the height of a horse, let’s say one adult warg is about 1000 lbs. Two wargs = 2000. The uruk raider looked slim, wearing leather(?) armor and seemed 5 feet tall at most. Let’s say 200 lbs. To free himself he had to bench probably around 2000 lbs, give or take since I’m only counting the portion of the weight that is sitting directly on him. I’m also prob underestimating the weight of a warg because even though it’s about the height of a horse, it looks substantially stockier in the head, the neck and the torso.
