They (the men) were more savage than the white man could ever be. We blame the white man for our suffrage ha! Blame yourselves and still to this day it's the same cycle repeating itself. Ride or die, call them Kings when they were never men. The black is and will always be our survival.

If that’s what you got from the movie, they have accomplished their goal. Black people looking at movies don’t stop to think about the message they’re promoting. They don’t want you to have a healthy relationship with your man because you will raise children that will do the same and disrupt the system. You can only be controlled if you’re dysfunctional.

Actually, it is factually both, but Europeans, including Spain, South and certainly not least North America. Don't try to minimize the reality that mostly white people were the main oppressors of their fellow man.

And it shows. The Agojie wore dresses or something much more feminine than this. But yeah, those white feminists made certain to make these women as masculine as possible. No good black men in the film of course.

@@ZEBEEtheoriginal That king was the typical weak, ineffectual "man" you'd find in a feminist Hollywood film. The Agojie were an ALL-FEMALE unit. There were no MALE lieutenants. The only "good" man in the film, happened to be half Caucasian (But of course) . All the black females in the film were made to look as masculine and scary as possible. Much unlike the European Amazons who were said to have been beautiful. Or would you prefer to force me to watch that awful PoS AGAIN just so I can point out every awful scene piece by piece?
@6oifish
@6oifish 8 ай бұрын
@@MavenWalsh The Ajojie's outfits were actually quite accurate, which you would've known if you'd done an ounce of research. the smithsonian has an article with photos that shows a picture of outfits that look almost exactly like the main outfits in the show. secondly, i don't really understand, as a black girl, why you insist on saying that the actresses in this film looked masculine. sure, i could MAYBE see how you saw Viola Davis to be a bit more macho, but that's because the Ajojie are literally soldiers. they are going to look strong. they are not going to look delicate and frail, because again, they are soldiers. thirdly, i don't know why you are so upset at the fact that the Ajojie were an all-female unit. again, if you look up the history of the Ajojie, you will find that they were an all-female unit. yes, men are biologically stronger than women, but that doesn't negate the fact that women can be strong and be soldiers. and, news flash, it doesn't make them less feminine. obviously, the show is not perfect, as many of the characters in it are fictional, and it's by Hollywood, so of course, we won't get as many 'good' black men in films nowadays. but, for the love of Pete, can we please stop criticizing women (esp black women) just for being able to fight and lead? i don't get the obsession that some of our men have with a woman that doesn't challenge them at all. that's not a good mindset to be having about women, or anyone, in general. thank you for coming to my ted talk.

The Dahomey were a horrific regime that caused unspeakable terror and suffering. There are incredible stories of TRUE heros who fought against injustice and oppression. This was not in. They should be treated similarly to other groups that we quite rightly villainise. Not caring if it is true or not undermines the suffering of those who suffered under their hand. I've studied this era of history to ensure we shine a light on the horrors that were perpetrated. A lot of this was reading accounts of people who were enslaved by the Dahomey. I was rather startled when i heard that they had made a film about such a horrific regime. Can you tell me how you would have written it correctly?

These were very moving scenes of bravery and self sacrifice among women-in-arms; the Sisterhood of Warriors. Ofcourse, this movie flew under the radar. The fearless Dahomey women warriors class did also wear dresses and headwraps; while firing deadeye musket rifes. These women were the true life female Amazons, whom were by long African traditional standards: skilled martial artist--as were their male warrors. The movie itself was obviously a ten--just for being based on some refreashing real history and strong, jawdropping acting that brought their world to vibrant life (to the shock and dismay of some low IQ and ignorance critics).

@@dacsus The Dahomey /African concept of War Captive (Ganto=Prisoners or people in irons, chain) isn't the same concept as European and Islamic Slavery (that didn't allow for any form of everlasting redemption--only perpetual slavery). In what European and Islamic nations can you find the children born of slaves (kau-nuo-mon=People of the cord--ofwhich, there are seven more categories) declared free born Dahomeian? Or, a foreign slave made a wife of the King, then made free-along with her childrens? I will not defend the nature of the Dahomey Empire which was based on Militarlistic Expansionism (often at the expense of its neighbors--when negotiations failed). I will contend with the notion that African Societal Slavery was monolithic and identical to European and Islamic practices--it was not.

Very true. The difference between Europeans enslaving African and African enslaviing European is a matter òf organisation African slavers did what slavers have always done. They raided and captured little groups, or bought war prisoners. Europeans did it a new way. They created an international BUSINESS. They hired middlemen like Pedro Blanco to arrange deals with people such as Gezo. And thus took 6 hundred in just one specially adapted ship In this film the trade has ended. British ships patrol the seas. But smuggling continues. Who's to say the Agojie werent upset by the trade? We havent got their voices..

You do know it was all a lie right. This tribe was a bunch a brutal slavers. That's right they enslaved black people. Good job cheering them on.

it 'flew under the radar' because they changed a bunch of stuff to be historically inaccurate and people found out how the actual characters were involved in sl@very and not many in the western world are sitting around all jazzed about that. They wanted people to get all excited and behind someone doing those things, and expected it would do fine...

That is not true, it was talked about in the movie. They weren't the only ones, so you might want to save some of the capital letter outrage.

Don't watch it. You're spot on. You don't have to put yourself through that kind of misery like I did. Fyi, I forced myself to watch The Last Jedi THREE times, because people told me it would get better with each viewing. It did not.
