The Woman Who Sued Her Mother's GP For Being Born | This Morning

A showjumper with a spinal defect who sued her mother’s GP - claiming she should never have been born - has made legal history after a court ruled in her favour. In a case that will have lasting implications for family doctors, Evie Toombes sued Dr Philip Mitchell over his failure to recommend her mother take the vital supplement, folic acid. Her lawyers argued that if he had advised her properly, she would have postponed getting pregnant. Following the ruling, Evie is joining us in the studio to discuss the historic ‘wrongful conception’ case.

I never took folic acid..I was very young and naive..my daughter is healthy...I'm not sure that suing is reasonable.

From where I’m from, GP is that, general practitioner. Our GPs do not entertain/treat OBGyne patients.

Oh my god what a crock of s**t! I didn't take folic acid with my kids, in fact i was so severely anaemic with 2 of them, i needed blood transfusions, yet each of my children are healthy. There's absolutely no way of knowing for sure that a lack of folic acid caused this and i'm sorry but some of the responsibility lies with her mum, if she felf she should take folic acid then she she should and could have, you don't even need a prescription.
