Angelika Trabert has won 24 medals in more than 25 years, six of them at five different Paralympic Games.
When she's not riding horses she works as an anaesthetist in Frankfurt or in Guinea where she travels with an NGO to provide urgent medical care.

Wow, what a great story!!! She loves her horses and they love her. Look how relaxed they are in her company and when she's riding. Every muscle in her body is working WITH the horse and he's quite happy! And what balance! Her balance enables her to be able to communicate without interfering with the signals that keeps this horse at his paces. I can't wait to show my kids at school this amazing story!!!

wow! what a truly inspiring story. I myself have been an A/K amputee for almost 20 years, but before that I worked in the equestrian field for 12 years. I did lower lever Hunters and Dressage competitions. When I lost my leg... my life as I knew it... ended, having been told by the surgeon that I'd never ride again, but my fierce love of horses never died. I was just wondering Angelika, have you ever considered having an operation called Osseo Intergration? I am on a disability and cannot afford to go to the Netherlands or Australia to have this operation done as the BC medical won't cover any medical treatments that's done outside of the province...and because of an issue I've had for the last 6 years with my stump, i haven't even been able to tolerate wearing a conventional socket. I am now hopeful as my prosthetist mentioned to me a few days ago that there may be a couple of Doctors willing to jump on board with doing this procedure, in a few hospitals here in Vancouver...so I am keeping my fingers crossed. Thank you so much for sharing your inspirational story, just subb'd to btw :)

I’m watching this after complaining of being too sore after my dressage lesson yesterday...it’s definitely a different way of riding and she proves that you don’t have to have that perfect riders build (long legs) to be an excellent rider... Brava! An inspiration for sure

Brother Ares So? I give her credit for not having legs to grip on a horse. She's not some feminist who wants things handed to them because they now have an excuse.

it's always weird to hear people talking about connection with a horse while they don't even let him move his head, not only while riding with pain from a massive bit, but even when they clean him.

Educate yourself please ( seriously even a G.E.D gets you into an equine college ) If you knew anything about horses you would know the horse is free to move! When grooming a horse it's tied on both sides but he isn't stuck, usually they put a special knot that's easy to pull lose if the horse panicks. Bitless can just as easily hurt a horse if used incorrectly, but this rider is using it correctly ( getting the horse to relax and bend it neck WILLINGLY). The bit she's using isn't huge, a bit fitter ( which any good rider hires and consults ) knows more than you about bits
