Sad thing is when Jack left Norcom and got that bank loan and started his own business which was the furniture store they were seen eating in, he would soon die and pass that furniture store business on to his son Wayne and leave Norma a widow. They just don't make men like Jack Arnold anymore, great men with great dreams of having his own business, his own home and his own family, a men among men. RIP Jack Arnold and The Wonder Years.

4:42 There were very few times in this series when we truly saw Jack happy with anything. He was either fuming or crabby and pensive most of the time. Seeing this, how much the change in career meant to him and the love and appreciation he had for his wife and kids, really made you want to root for the old man. You figure, as much crap as he's been through, he deserved this win. "To my girl. Merry Christmas!!"
@gracek21458 ай бұрын
That is the most realistic thing about this series - the characters are not very happy most of the time. Life is extremely difficult, and this show really presented the struggles of life much more than the pleasures of life. So when happiness does come along in the show (just like in real life), it is not shallow and truly means something to the viewer.

My dad took the same kind of risk back in the early 60s with six kids. He was hesitant like Jack Arnold but my mom wrote him a letter encouraging him to buyout his retiring boss and take over the business. He did a was very successful. About thirty years later my wife encouraged me to do the same and start my own business. I did and taking the example of my dad, I made it a success. Moral of the story is as men, we are little boys in men costumes. Are biggest fear is taking risks but like they say, behind every greater man is an even greater woman. In most cases it's the woman who becomes the voice of reason. Girls mature faster than boys, it so true.

So very true ... Most of the time a hesitant man just needs a great force of encouragement from his wife to do great things. I've seen it in my older brother. He always for someone else doing landscaping and masonry. He always talked about one day starting his own business in the field but hed say " with kids and bills it's better to just not have the headaches, im happy going in monday and getting paid friday so everything is taken care of" . well his wife told him to do it and that she would work night time to supplement income during the first year .... Well here he is 21 years later with his own business that's made him a successful man....all bc he had a great woman to motivate him. Now cousins wife doesn't care about anything except her nails and Gucci ....hes miserable haha

Tabitha King encouraged Stephen to finish Carrie. Walt Disney's wife was instrumental in Mickey's creation. I hope to publish my books and create a literary universe like Stephen King, while I still have my day job, my passion is writing. My wife encourages me and motivates every day.

Jack Arnold's decision was a good one. Most of us are entrepreneurs but don't know it. There comes a time in life when you have to stop $laving away for someone else or some ungodly workplace, take that risk and become your own person "but" with a positive plan and a comfortable destiny ahead..

What if Jack had hugged and kissed Norma when getting the news? ... that would have been an awesome moment ... but that wouldnt have been Jack. In general, Jack's sweetness is one that is based more on facts than on words, on character than on personality, on actions than on chocolate and flowers.

The writing was pretty bad in this episode, to be honest. Completely unrealistic ending. Banks won't loan you money just because they "like" you. If you don't have good enough credit, or this case collateral... then you won't be approved for a loan..
@SamuelNYC Жыл бұрын
Regional banks back then had lots of flexibility in lending. Branch managers or loan officers had certain reservations in extending the credit unlike since 1980s. Plus, Jack walked out during the last meeting with the bank without checking other options, and I think that's where Norma stepped in IMHO.
