One Saturday morning my dad and I went looking for a new car, which was rare as my dad usually bought used. We went to the local Ford dealer and my dad bought a dark green Cyclone, a basic automatic, 2 bbl 302, bench seat. It was the only time I ever went with him to get a car. 50 years later he came with me to pick up my brand new Mustang G.T. Convertible, he’s gone now but the memory lives on , thank you for this presentation.

I remember when my dad got home from Vietnam he bought a brand new 1968 Mercury Cyclone GT that was identical to the 68 you featured at the begging of the 68's segment; It was white with red striping on it, & a red interior with buckets, & a center counsel with a floor shift automatic. I always thought those were the best looking Cyclones IMHO. Thanks for the history of the Mercury Cyclone. I can't believe so many divisions of American manufactures are gone now sad.

My first new car was a green ‘72 Montego MX with the 351 Cleveland 4v. It was a sleeper that surprised quite a few GM and Mopar powered cars.

Congrats on an excellent presentation of the Comet/Cyclone! And thank you! It is very well researched, spoken clearly, and contains awesome images of the hugely underappreciated Comet. While the Mustang got its start from the donor Falcon, Mercury was well underway with the Falcon-based Comet and Cyclone and the early years 64,65, were bona fide muscle cars and looked amazing and the 66-67 only got better. Then the 68 fastback- what can you say - looked killer and have aged very well. Thanks for this feature. 2 thumbs up my friend!

What do you think of the new cars now? I think they are some of the most boring cars ever. The SUVs and the electric cars. I dont like where the automotive industry is headed now. I'm not even interested in having a brand new car anymore.

There are a handful of modern cars we like but they are definitely still beautifully styled and NOT electric! There are not many we would like to have but we haven't bought a brand-new car in 20 years. Thanks!

The 68-69 Fastback was and will always be my favorite car. When My Dad and I stepped up and into the grandstand at Darlington Raceway, the first thing we saw was the Coca Cola Mercury sitting there on the front row. It looked like it was going fast sitting still. Bobby Allison dominated the race that day and is a great memory.

A great video, very well done and informative, as well as factually correct. A clarification: in 1968, the only cars actually equipped with 427 engines were Mercury Cougars. This has been confirmed by Kevin Marti of Marti Auto Works.

Thanks for a great video. I own a 1968 mercury cyclone that is a 1 of 3 built because of special paint which is called Nordic Blue. Supposedly available only on mustangs and cougars only. It is a as foynd survivor. I drive to cruise ins and car shows with a Marti report to prove it. Now working on a 1968 montego mx station wagon for a sleeper car

Ford Australia did a similar endurance test on the new 1965 Falcons, because the prior models had gained an unwanted reputation for not being up to rugged Australian conditions. It worked out well for them as I recall.

Actually the 1969 Cyclone Spoiler W nose cars were available with Big Blocks and buckets. I owned and restored the lowest numbered known Dan Gurney Special which is now owned by Dan Gurneys son Justin. It was 1 of 5 known 390 cars and the only ever known factory AC car. This car was used by Ford to fool NASCAR into believing they had met the 500 car production number for the inspection held in March. Ford had only made 380ish car at the time of inspection so they snuck in W nose cars to pass the inspection. What's so cool to me is I restored this VIN 49179 and after I sold it Ray Evernham owned and sold it to Justin Gurney. I called it Merk-zilla

What about 1973? I know that by 1974 the new mid-size Cougar took over as the Flag Ship model for the Mercury line.
