sublime craftsmanship - I just hope this artform doesn't go away.
@stormchasingk911 ай бұрын
Depends, what is cheaper, 3D animation or sculpture? Hollywood has already answered that as they have done away with practical effects in favor of CGI. A lot of craftsmanship is simply evolving to the new medium to perfect the same effect. Old methods will be forgotten (and preserved) but the leyman will not be able to afford the old method when it becomes chique.
@jwalster941210 ай бұрын
@@stormchasingk9I would argue, although it might seem easier, CGI is actually harder because you have to get everything perfect or it feels off.

@chicobicalho5621 "This is the real magic of cinema, no exclusive special effects that transform films into cartoon animations, but the physical, tactile stuff made by hand that create enchantment and grace." This comment and much of the appreciative variations here in the comments on the crafts crew behind these short films that Wes Anderson has made for streaming on smaller screens brings to mind an indie regional filmmaker from Pittsburgh, PA of my NYC rep house movie haunting and well spent yoot. George Romero. More curiously on the issue of the gracefulness and enchantment of these hand made and crafted special effects (that appear to use computer modeling to fabricate if one watches the prevalence of computer screens in the crafts workshop. Perhaps even the nearly mythic capacities of these Copy Machines that can reproduce manufactured copies apparently to scale of perfect replicas) would be a consideration of George Romero's local Pittsburgh collaborator on nearly all of his films, beyond special effects yet still within the world of enchantment, if perhaps more haunted and darker of nightmare visions than grace filled, the work behind the scenes of Tom Savini: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Savinien.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Savini Don't just think zombies and make-up effects. Watch Romero and Savini's yootful masterpiece on the psychologically simpatico adolescent vampire of Pittsburgh, PA's industrial rail lined smokey intimate land and urban scapes. No zombies in "MARTIN." Just a kid compelled by a twist in the human condition to be as unhinged as so many of us have become in perhaps less dramatic fashion in year 3 or is it 4 of our Pandemic In Perpetuity. Which brings to mind Romero's cinematic prophetic vision with his second yootful indie film regional masterpiece of life during misunderstood bio Public Health emergency mishap resulting in similar intimate scaled National Security Risk: "THE CRAZIES." collider.com/george-a-romero-the-crazies/ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_A._Romero I thank our local appreciator of the works of Wes Anderson, Renessa here up on Mt Tabor in PoTown, Ore for calling my attention to these Netflix works for streaming. I do watch much on U. of Tube but have not had the funds to avail myself of streaming services and have gotten rid of my larger screen TV while pandemic cut down my pleasures of viewing in rep sized screening rooms. So thanks to Renessa and these posted appreciations of this side of Wes Anderson's and his creative collaborators' crafty human scaled works for convincing me to look into this cinematic vision that moves forward without losing the humans that made cinematic magic and narrative "grace" of the past. And that's why Wes Anderson's films stand out. These film productions are very beneficial. There is no need to worry about location shooting costs (only studio costs), talented model builders are employed and they can utilize their skills and finally the audience can enjoy unique watching experience. Of course when it comes to time and budget, only Anderson's production can afford to build many highly detailed models and sets.

Such fantastic work by the minutures crew and the detail was incredible, I'd watched the movie before seeing this video, and some of the locations, I'd not realised were minutures and I thought that the back projection of Benedict Cumberbatch was stock footage from somewhere in time, and the location of the mews was in West London, so it had me fooled. The film is delightful and the acting was brilliant, great performances from Sir Ben , Beneditch, Ralph Fiennes and Dev Patel , look out for Plups Jarvis Cocker, who is an extra. Fantastic Film.
