My sisters don’t believe “flying by the seat of your pants” is a real phrase so to hear someone other than me is VINDICATION
@VVilde365 ай бұрын
Tell them it is literally in the Cambridge phrasal dictionary - which if you would google it would tell you it means : "to do something difficult without the necessary skill or experience:" ie ' I had no idea how to do it - I was just flying by the seat of my pants.'

Background of the phrase is flying in very wild weather with the controls getting maxed out barely being able to control the aircraft. Rudders are used to align the nose of the aircraft controlled by your feet flying by the seat of your pants is your legs pushing the rudders to the max with your leg fully extended fighting to keep the plane stable -trust me bro. lol. Legit background I learned in flight school many moons ago

The Scentsy sponsorship is incredibly annoying. It gives the appearance of tacit approval of the MLM business model by Disney, and makes the victims (consultants) feel vindicated by that approval. Of course Disney has been letting both Scentsy and other MLM companies license the IP for a while now but that isn’t okay either. :/

Those EPCOT promo videos are so nostalgic for me. In elementary school (early 80s) I was fascinated with EPCOT and I actually collected their promo material and made a 3D model of the park for our science fair. I think I got 2nd place. I made Spaceship Earth out of a styrofoam ball lol. It was truly an obsession of mine at 10-11 right before it opened and I wish I still had the brochures they sent me and the model!
@RavenAlchemist135 ай бұрын
Yes finally!! Thank you Offhand. I have always been fascinated with Disney's sponserships, and how they have impacted the parks; yet no one seems to talk about them as a whole! There is so much interesting history there, and Disney would not be the same without the money from the sponserships. Thank you for talking about sponsership history that is often just an offhand (lol) mention on most other Disney history videos/sources. Love your stuff!
@jaronfralick59275 ай бұрын
Obviously, Dalin is correct in that it is easier for companies to sponsor an original ride not attached to any IPs like Test Track because they are easier for companies that make a certain type of products to use as a template (like food/agricultural companies for The Land, energy companies for Horizons, and car companies for Test Track). But, I think the reason the Tron and Dumbo attractions (even though they are Disney IPs) are more easily adaptable to sponsorships is because they are original Disney IPs created by Disney themselves and not bought like Marvel and Star Wars. My thought is that there would be too much of a clash with brand recognition, a feeling that the hardcore original fans would find it more "tasteless" to have brand sponsorship slapped onto creative property Disney soullessly absorbed for profit instead of Disney's original IPs.

Another issue with sponsorships is that the contract typically requires more frequent updates, so if an attraction is great, they still have to change/update the attraction. If I'm remembering correctly, I think it was part of the Kodak sponsorship that Journey into Imagination had to get changes when it did, it just happened to be worse.
@ttintagel5 ай бұрын
Because for some reason the contract didn't require Kodak to pony up for the updates.
@lutherheggs4515 ай бұрын
Journey into Imagination got changed because Kodak was no longer sponsoring it. Kodak didn't want to pay for a refurbishment because they were losing money with the rise of digital cameras that didn't require film

I have actually been thinking about this a lot lately. What’s not to say that someone could start a company that is a non profit and works with Imagineering where fans can donate to the company and help fund the newest fan sponsored ride or attraction. Help plus things up on current attractions where there’s no money in the “budget” for upkeep and maintenance.

I had gone to HS about 10 years ago when they still had TGMR, and American Idol. Did I think it was a little tacky? yes. Did I think that it looked dated? Not yet, THAT I eventually realized. When Toy Storyland opened, I was excited. But now that I am a little older, and I notice that EVERYTHING is based off of a movie, it gets a little boring and repetitive. Now I can understand. how a family from (let's say) Michigan might connect with a ride based off of a movie cause they will already know it and it adds to their vacation experience. But I've always had fond memories of rides based on oringal concepts. Some of them are my actual favorites- Jungle Cruise (before the movie came out), BTM, COP, Maelstrom, IASW, American Adventure, Haunted Mansion (before the movie again). Now I know the rides with the characters is what people will care about but I don't think it would hurt if they made a ride that was an original. Aim it towards the older generations that are there for the nostalgia even! I'm just afraid that Disney would try their best to do this and it would be considered a flop.

It's possible the IP focus comes from the fact that they were struggling to get (or keep) sponsors as companies may have thought they weren't getting good value for their sponsorships. I'm sure not having full control over the sponsored attractions was also annoying to Disney and the Imagineers

all the footage and photos of 1950s-60s Disneyland always make me so sad lol I wish it still looked like that... I feel even in the 90s and early 00s it had some of that same charm but honestly now it feels so.... digititalized and corporatized lol (like I realize that they had sponsors from corporations back then but they really took into account use of different architecture styles, aesthetics, & signage/fonts, and now disney is its own giant corp and they squeeze every cent from u and draw u in with new & shiny iPhone-like things that are so watered-down and simple and cash-grabs, when the classic attractions are still the best part of the park(though they have kind of ruined some with screens), so it just feels disingenuous? idk lol)
