I am fortunate to have visited Disneyland in 1972. Tomorrowland was a much more sophisticated, intelligent land where you could be amazed by wonders explored through science. The actual experience of Journey Through Innerspace was good, but the idea of being shrunk down to see atoms was thrilling.

Agree, my first visit was 1973, and Disneyland has changed, not improved. My favorite years are the 1990s, teenager with a fully functioning tomorrow land. GOOD TIMES.

My first trip to Disneyland was in '59. I was 4 years old. I vividly remember near to the House of Tomorrow... there were big, multi colored, wheel valves that you could open and close to adjust corresponding water fountains. I was totally fascinated by that. I've never seen anyone talk about those. I remember the Flying Saucer ride. They rode on a cushion of air. And even though I was 4... I realized it was a bogus ride. LoL!

This video was a Historical Work of Disney Art.... Really. Perfect information vs humor ratio. I still remember "as a real small kid" walking through 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and walking around the Bathroom of the Future "boring." And we still go to Disneyland to this day.... Thanks for your time, hard work and posting.

I rode 20k leagues in '76 in Magic Kingdom as a little kid (5 years old) and was completely convinced we were in a real submarine really under water, though I remember thinking the fish, giant squid and all that were plastic robots. Hell of a ride.

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea was a walk through experience gleaned from the movie that came out in '54 starring Kirk Douglas and James Mason. I did that walk through in '59 not really understanding what was going on. My parents didn't let me see the movie because it would've been to terrifying for me. What is really terrifying... is the special effects from the 50's. Lol!

Funny thing, we have a Vintage Disneyland TV Dinner Tray, It looks to be around 1955 or 1956 as there is no copyright date on it. On the front it just says "Copyright Walt Disney Productions." And on the back it says "California Metalware Corporation, El Segundo California." But it is way before the subs and Matterhorn.

Ah, Adventures Thru Inner Space was way cool. We went on it in the 60's many, many times. The Omnimover concept was way fun, and the ending, when the snowflake melted (uh, no raindrop, it was a snowflake), was cool. The eye ball was creepy. Good stuff. Do you have the other two maps from 1958? That predates my visits by three years.

Liberty street/International street actually saw the light of day, the plans were given to Kunizuo Matsuo and it was built for the planned Nara Disneyland before being changed for Nara Dreamland, sadly this area of the park was demolished in part (the harbour) in early 80s and the rest in the late 90s for the construction of the aska coaster, the buildings were almost the same as in the concept wich is impressive to see what anaheim park could have looked like !

Great stuff. I can't stop thinking about how cool a Disneyland VR Time Machine could be. Where you could pick a year and see the park as it was at the time. I think Disney could make a fortune off of something like that.

This is neat, Dallin! On the subject of the Matterhorn, you might get a good video out of the movie/book it's based on. I've never seen the movie, but I've taught the book for years, and its ... interesting. I'm kind of surprised that the ride left out the ghost. Yes. There's a ghost haunting the mountain in the book. It's very Haunted Mansion. Enjoy. :)

I am both a former Disney employee and not necessarily a huge fan of 2024 Disney, but the park was pure magic to an 8 year old in the late 1970’s. Absolutely pure magic. As a kid it was the only thing that could top Christmas. A trip to Disneyland was something to get flipped out excited over.

I visited the park in 1967 (9 years old). A recent transplant from Pensacola Florida, this was something extra special. I saw most of these old attractions. Today, it is so over crowded and much too expensive. This is a great video with clear, concise information.

The Hawaiian Music area became a really amazing, reservation only, full service, Polynesian restaurant with a Hula and fire dancing show. There was a small stream dividing the stage from the audience and the dancers would enter and exit the stage through a waterfall curtain. I'm not sure when it finally closed, but I am fairly certain that it was open for about 10 t0 15 years.

Old Crow here. My mom managed to hide Disneyland from me until 1968. I kid you not. We lived over by Cal State Fullerton. How she kept me busy during the firework show we would have clearly been able to see..? Could it have been Hogan's Hero's? Bonanza? Dirty pool, says I. Where I got my sneaky nature from becomes apparent, too. Tomorrowland (in '68. Eighth birthday; was that cool or what??) was freaking too cool for school! Mind you, 2001: A Space Odyssey came out that year, too. I hadn't a clue what all the excitement was about the actual plot, but there was no doubt in my mind that was, and Disneyland's Tomorrowland was, our future! What sold me completely? The telephones you could use to call people and excitedly tell them that you are talking to them in a glass box with people staring at you--but the best thing?? I'm talking without hands!! And everyone told people they called using this futuristic phone, so excited that they didn't have hands, either. Funny stories about Disneyland having to scramble to fix up the Hawaiian Punch sponsored drink pavilion outside the Tiki Room. I believe they closed the Tuna Boat in Rivers of America when it was discovered it was sinking. Yes, there was that scary blue water, but it sinking wouldn't like, um, drown anyone unless they were already nose-deep in clam chowder. My specialty is trash talkin' Knott's Berry Farm in the '80s. We were not supposed to call the glorified sponges we had as the final emergency brakes on the Parachute Drop, "Splat Pads" and if anyone was caught saying it in earshot of a guest, would be written up. Woof! Like that would slow us up...

Such a wonderful presentation! I brings back memories of my first trip in 1965. Somewhere in my clutter, I have a map and some unused "A" and "B" tickets; but of course, no "E". The Haunted Mansion facade was there, but it wasn't open yet. I was pissed! I got to see Walt from about 20 feet, surrounded by children (I was 9). He was handing-out cards with his signature on them. I regret not fighting for one. Thanks for this video. It gave me lots of "fuzzies".

Wait, did he confuse the Plaza Pavilion with the Red Wagon Inn (sponsored by Swift)? They are two different locations.. The Pavilion is now Jolly Holiday, whereas the Red Wagon is now the Plaza (with the great fried chicken) and is on the right hand side of the Hub. It's confusing yeah, but worth noting the differences.

My grandparents went to Disneyland a few months after it opened as part of a month long radio show raflle win that took them through Mexico, the U.S. and Canada. Still have some of the original postcards that they never mailed and kept in a two albums, plus a bunch of maps and other souvenirs. They always talked about it. I still have a 1972 map. I miss a lot of of the old rides not going to lie... like the skyway. It would go through the Matahorn ride and was pretty cool. The back of castle area was changed with the removal of the big Captain Hook's ship, and re-arrangement of the carousel and tea cups. Also miss the Bear Country Jamboree area. I guess progress is progress.

I went on that old Voyage Through Inner Space in the early '80s. Snore festival. You got shown a series of scratchy B&W photos looking thru a microscope. Each -picture at greater magnification until ... it stopped. There was a condescending late 50s style narration. Oy! What a low quality cheapie ride to provide something to fill the space on the ground! Just an old science class slide show!

I haven't watched all your videos yet, I've been going to Disneyland since you had to use tickets like the E-ticket. Anyway you know those bus that follow you inside of the haunted Mansion when I used to go there was three of them that watched you and now there's only two I don't know what year it was but it went from three of them to only two busy watching you. You need to make a video about Disneyland in the past before DCA when the monorail used to run on the outside of the parking lot and made a stop at the Disneyland Hotel. A 1-day ticket in 1987 was $20 and talk about all the rides that we had and how cheap it was and now it is so expensive and most of the rides from Tomorrowland are gone like my favorite the people mover trip to the moon and the carousel of progress in your off hand style. No you just go on it like a fast pass) so we went on it a lot! Cutting the two hour wait times that it usually was. 😅 I’m very fortunate to have enjoyed this ride when it was around, but don’t get me wrong I do miss the people mover….
