How about women and children were they also crucified?

Unlikely, but not impossible. My understanding of crucifixion was that it was among one of the most awful punishments - consider that you are strapped to a cross, hung in a way that you are struggling to breathe properly, you are exposed to the elements, and every passing moment the position you are in makes your body work more against you. And that this could go on for *_days._* Because of this, this was more of a capital punishment that serves to keep the rest of the populace in line. As such, it was often reserved for revolutionaries and some of the worst criminal elements among the Roman Empire. In that time period, most women were not revolutionaries in that sense, and I don’t think children were held liable for their parents’ crimes? But the Roman Empire was very merciless and often did whatever it thought was necessary to cull the weed of rebellion. To wit, because Jesus was referred to as the King of the Jews - a declaration that would have been considered high treason - he would have had to be crucified to send the proper message.
