Also, for Luke, the fungi are forming a web, not a woven sheet, if that makes any sense. so individual threads may intersect, but they're not all in contact with each other at any point.

This episode was really interesting! I can recommend a book on this topic, it is called "The hidden life of trees" by Peter Wohlleben. After reading it, you will look at trees and the forest differently.

34:25 On the topic of the past thinking that trees grow in competition, Corry suddenly uncovered a memory for me- in elementary school we walked from the school to the city park for a day outside. The teachers had us stand in the grass and then threw little blocks around us, telling us to grab as many blocks as we could without moving, as fast as we could. Then after they were all grabbed, the teachers went around telling the kids that didn't get any/many blocks that they then have to "die", making us sit instead of stand in the grass lmao. Harsh way to teach a small child about trees but go off I guess.

I’m so glad this is this week’s topic! It is a topic that comes up frequently on another one of my favorite pods, Completely Arbortrary. I’m gonna write to the guys there and tell them to give it a listen. :)
