The WordPress Repo Problem: Centralization vs. Decentralization

Why couldn’t each plug-in or theme be hosted on GitHub and then the repo is submitted to a centralized location, but the updates and everything come from git?

That would be another way to do it. Someone ambitious could easily build a Plugin to do that with the update API I proposed in the video. Under the system I proposed, ANYTHING is possible because there is no centralized place that requires gatekeeping (or that defines a single way of doing updates).
