What the world needs is to have cars go back to 1970s technology with ZERO bells and whistles other than maybe an 8 track, ok, a CD player, but no built in iPad looking dashboard. Something that costs maybe $5-6k so everybody can afford it.

The big question would be, can we change American buying habits to support such a creation? If we won't buy it, they won't build it, and Americans have very much shown they want SUVs/Trucks the past decade+

Hi austin...just wanna say I do agree with what you've said...I don't think we'll ever see it happen in our lifetime an I'm 50...the whole American made "real cars" are 2 far gone n if they happen 2 make something...it would be so far outta the average persons price range it would make us even more sick....but I'm right there with ya...keep up the great work austin...I like following along...😊

This is definitely a hope and a prayer kind of thing, but you never know what might catch on right? If enough of us are loud enough SOMEONE has to pay attention... right? There ARE younger folks out there who would actually be interested and willing to buy cars built here, as long as they check what boxes THEY want. Right now, everything is just too damn big, too damn heavy, too damn expensive. Thanks for following along and supporting me in what I'm up to!

Exactly, and it's absolutely incredible that the American automotive industry is building essentially nothing but big expensive trucks at this point. Europe has WAY more strict laws about automotive production and they have option after options of small fun efficient affordable cars.

They are putting all of the electronics on them so if something breaks, it stops running. Not like the old cars. Check engine light on they keep going. And its so expensive you have to have a expensive warranty to fix it. Or when the warranty runs out you have to trade it in cause your scared If it breaks you can't afford to fix it. They are doing it on purpose.
@chuckschultz7028
@chuckschultz7028 15 күн бұрын
AMC did more with less for so long that people expected them to survive on nothing. The collaboration with Renault was a desperate move that ultimately left them broke. Alliance convertibles were neat. The engineering of the big FWD Premier sedan did help Chrysler get the LH series to market quicker. The Ram 1200 pickup would be a better option to save the Pentastar because it already exists. Sadly, the youth market is gone; kids do not care about cars anymore. AMC had a fantastic R&D facility in Burlington Wisconsin; a good friend's grandfather was their chief engineer and designed the 232/258 six as his retirement project. The main drag at the proving ground was named for him.
@AutomotiveAdventuresWithAustin
@AutomotiveAdventuresWithAustin 15 күн бұрын
Part of the charm of AMC for me, is exactly that thrifty make do attitude. They never had the enormous budgets of the big 3 but they were able to fight and win because they had to think outside the box and not just throw money and entire R&D departments at problems. The youth market is definitely going to be a challenge to bring back, but I think we are also looking at it kind of wrong, is it THEIR fault they aren't into cars? There's really nothing interesting or attainable for them anymore. There are plenty of folks in their mid-late 20s early 30s who would love something fun to drive and enjoy... unfortunately America just doesn't build anything for them

Lol put carbs on everything then the kids will NEVER mess with them ;) There's a lot of unnecessary "stuff" added to these new vehicles, some of it we can't get rid of for safety sake and such, but a lot of it is just totally unwanted. What's crazy is if you want efficiency, make cars smaller and lighter, and you immediately get that.

I totally agree with you Austin, but it’s not just an American thing. What you call a small sport car was what we Europeans call a big car. Nowadays the cars we had back in the 70’s or 80’s weighed around 1000kg and are now 2500kg and are longer and wider. Don’t fit into parking spaces, full of tech shit no one asked for or needs.
@AutomotiveAdventuresWithAustin
@AutomotiveAdventuresWithAustin 15 күн бұрын
Oh it's certainly not JUST an American thing that cars have gotten bigger and fatter (as we have gotten bigger and fatter) but the fact we literally make NO cars here besides the Mustang really is truly incredible. Just a few years ago we can compacts, sedans, sports cars, muscle cars, even hot hatches... now they are ALL gone in favor of trucks/SUVs/CUVs.
@donaldgrant9067
@donaldgrant9067 14 күн бұрын
When you said a new sports car I thought of something like an XKE, Ferrari and a Triumph TR3. Just a motor, transmission and 4 wheels. I really never thought that an AMX was a sports car, it was a Muscle Car. Oh and let's not forget the Shelby Cobra as a sports car. But dealers ships would jack up the price to ware only the rich could afford them, so we're back to: WHY? If only the rich can afford them the rest of us really don't give a D what they make.
@AutomotiveAdventuresWithAustin
@AutomotiveAdventuresWithAustin 11 күн бұрын
Valid point for sure especially that last bit, if only the rich can afford them, why do we care? That's part of the root of the ZR1 rants I've made in the past, at a quarter million a piece, who cares? Very few people who can afford one will have the skill to drive one anywhere near what it's capable of, and those who can likely will seldom ever drive them. My hope is something in a Mustang like price range that can do battle with the 5.0 Mustang or heck even the 2.3 turbo Mustang. Just SOMETHING fun and reasonable targeted at the enthusiast market.
@donaldgrant9067
@donaldgrant9067 11 күн бұрын
@@AutomotiveAdventuresWithAustin I agree the rich can't drive, seen to many sports cars wrecked. In fact I have a funny story about rich people driving. I live near Dallas and had to take a friend to the Airport in Dallas around Thanksgiving. And driving though the rich part of town I watched nice new BMW's, Mercadies and Range Rovers diving in and out of traffic like it was a domination derby. Jamming their noses in front of people at the last minute and expecting that person to stop. And then on my way out 3 of these nice new cars ended up in an accident. They are nuts. I was so glade to get out of there in my 04 Cadilac CTS with a 5 speed standard, I value that car. It is fun to drive and corner like a dream. So I support taking away rich people from driving sportscars, they don't deserve to drive them. Absolutely no respect for the cars.

What's crazy is how many of us are out here screaming at the market to make something we want and are capable of buying, and what we get is more of the same or bigger more expensive trucks. The solution to stagnation is simple, build something different. Build something smaller, simpler, less expensive, make it something normal people can afford and NOT end up in debt for 5-10 years to purchase. It wasn't THAT long ago that a normal car loan was 36 months! I highly doubt this will have any impact at all, or that anyone in any sort of decision making capacity would care, but I think the math I'm providing here could make some damn good sense! Otherwise this is the most pitiful last gasp of the American automotive industry we could possibly imagine.

GM has definitely let down all us old Camaro fans as well. They became too big and too expensive. Then again I think they put too much energy and focus on the Corvette which doesn't really cater to the actual car enthusiast. I don't see many Vetts at a track day event. Then again not many Mustangs or Camaros either.

That would be awesome!!!!! Everyone has a Stang. I love the Mustang but I don't to own what Everyone else does. I wanted a Camaro but buying a used one is risky. Again Gm throws Everything at the Corvette and stop really upgrading anything else and the Camaro died again. GMs fault. People love the Camaro. People love the Crown Vic but Ford threw everything at the truck and Mustang and stopped upgrading it and people got tired of the outdated cars. Had they put a 5.0 and a 6R80 in it. Infotainment center, they would still be being made.

It is happening in 2025 this year, only it is an EV "Electric Vehicle".... AMC had ingeniously crafted or expiremented on late 1960s Javilins, by truncating it to a factory AMX race car and most importantly a true American sports car classication... Then AMC is in need of an original VW Beetle competition model to sell and market in 1970... AMC was a small car company in competition with the big 3 and put all their investments, development, and R&D in the new to launch 1970 AMC Hornet, a car legendary in the early 1950's... That Hornet model was more recently featured in 2006 "Cars" cartoon movie... 1950's Nascar aside, the Hornet was definitely long in the tooth by 1970 as a race car... AMC to compete with new model introductions of the 1970s Pinto and Vega were left flat footed without a model in this class... The 1970 Hornet was truncated from the "B" pillar onto the back and shortened with more of a higher hatchback rear deck style and called it Gremlin... *It was 50mm or about 2 inches longer than the VW venerable Beetle... TESLA has said for years and now recently announced; that it will come out in June 2025 with a $28,000 EV Model 2; basically, truncating a preexisting Model "Y" which had 3 row seats options... The Model 2 "Baby Model"Y", shedding of the people hauler image and think couped, smaller more sporting and one of the fastest EV Cars period: for affordable prices... !! *Unfortunately, Austin, I have trouble accepting future shock also, but I have learned to try to embrace it... !! Our dreams of the return of new smaller sporty cars have metamorphic returns only in a different version of small, fast, fun EV cars... We can only hope some day, history will repeat our lifetime's, experiences, dreams; that being of ICE cars... !!

Nit all of us want a cookie cutter Mustang. I love the mustang. But so don't everyone's twin (falus) brother. Chevy messed up by stopping the Camaro again. The Big three need to start up fun Muscle car wars again. 400hp great handling cars. Not like the Hellcat that's fast in a strait line. An all around track car. Fast and agile. For less than $40k. We don't need a $60k sports car or we'd but a C8 Corvette. That turned into a prep mobile. For docs and lawyers and rich yuppies. We want a bad acc rear wheel drive v8 great handling all around Ameican muscle car. They won't do it.

The new hot rod is dead, cars are such tolling lap tops most people are fed up with high tech glitchy throw away unreliable cars, you can't do anything with em ford just locked out the ECU on the new mustang and sales tanked. There is no long term future for anything when tail lights shorting out and firing the electrical and back up cameras going bad sending a car into limp mode. It's fun to day dream but with regulations and foolish mandates the simple car ship has sailed there all rolling laptops, why rely on manufacturers to come up with something cool its just time to start looking again for ashtray cars. VGG's kid don't be yanking 2025 cars out of back yards pulling out a diagnostics system and thousands in dozens of chassis and engine ecm's there disposable even the demon 170 who's the electronic engineer that will be able to fix it in 40 years with pleathra of discontinued electronics, other than Yanking the engine out stuffing it in an ashtray car and getting it going with a Holley terminator it will be dead in the woods yard art.
