Stock or mildly built Pontiac engines don’t respond well to higher numerically rear gears like 4.11gears. I have seen many run slower ETs because of to much gear. Stock Pontiac engines make all their power down low in the rpm’s. I wouldn’t go any more than 3.42 gears on a stock to mild built Pontiac engine. They are all done at 4800-5200 rpm. A lot of Chevy and Ford guys don’t understand that . I run 13.2s @102 mph with an automatic and 3.08 factory gears in my 81 TA. Engine is a Pontiac 461 stroker with iron stock 6X8 heads. The track I used to run at was Atlanta Dragway which is 1000 ft above sea level. It closed in 2021. At a sea level track like Atco or Norwalk I would be high 12s. A lot of Chevy and Ford guys tell me to put higher gears in like 391 or 4.11 to run quicker , they just don’t get it. If I had an engine that turned 6500 rpm and was making power at that rpm absolutely. Now 3.23 or 3.42 may help but nothing any higher than that for my engine combo. Besides my car is a street car with a 3 speed auto . It would be buzzing with 3.73 and up gears at 60 mph . No thanks. Pontiacs make a lot of torque … use it wisely.

IMHO, I think the powers that be at GM don't want to admit that they screwed up, royally, when the killed off Pontiac, when they should have killed off Buick. China is in the process of rubbing out Buick with their own car. Perhaps, in this era of heightened tensions between the US and China, GM should focus in their CORE customer base, and re-introduce Pontiac as GM's performance division, with a good dose of awesome styling thrown in.

You of all people know it sucks to be short Don't you have one of those rise up lay downs creepers that you could have used instead of laying on your car? Surprised you didn't go with a hydro boost system instead of your vacuum setup that way you don't have to have a pump that's noisy cuz it's using your power steering pump to run the brakes and it's a GM thing
@1982MCI3 күн бұрын
A hydro boost would be a great, long term solution for diuretic but I don’t think you could install the hydroboost as quickly and easily as a vacuum pump which will get him by fine for now. He needed a solution that could be done quickly last night so time was not on his side

My experience with 68-72 A bodies, and I owned cutlass, GTO's and Chevelle's, is that they ALL hopped and shook the hell out of the tires when attempting a burnout. It will be interesting to see what happens with slicks.

Have the brakes always been bad due to low vacuum and you just lived with them? 😳 Are you planning on maybe a 700r4 and keeping the gears? Hope it all goes well at the National show.

Sorry for your struggles. I replaced everything but my brake pedal, all new lines, brakes, proportional valve, master cylinder and brake booster in my 80 Camaro. I struggled ALOT. Its nice to watch a real video that's not edited to make it look easy.

See if they can get those horrid KZbin stickers off all the windows while they are buffing out the Patina then it’ll be a bad ass Pontiac again but those stickers are killing it right now. But, just my opinion and I’ll live with whatever decision Austin makes, as long as he’s happy is all that matters. It’s his car

and this is why I say computers and AI is not are friend, I like pen and paper and a car with a computer I avoid. one global database are just a few is just a bad ideal. and its a shame you need a computer database to run a body shop or a garage, yes the news is not reporting none of this and I'm not sure the average person even understands what this means
