Some things I'd like to have included in the video: ● The whale I'm theorising the Hunter x Hunter world is on top of is a part of an even bigger world/ocean, a framework in an even bigger framework, essentially hammering home the message that the hunt never ends. ● This theory isn't as exciting or compelling as many others you'll see across the internet but it speaks to me as 'the best I've seen' because of how it complements the themes of Hunter x Hunter, it is perfectly consistent with Togashi's writing style and the various ideas scattered throughout the story. ● A mobius strip creates an infinite loop, fitting for this theory as I'm arguing that everything within the world of Hunter x Hunter is a part of a bigger thing,, a framework in an even bigger framework, infinitely.

Considering Togashi already drew a huge portion of the current world and dark continent (in an abstract way) and satellite technology exists I doubt such a farfetched theory could be true. Characters in Hunter X Hunter also have an understanding of other planets (Jupiter). From my perspective the world is huge but it is still a planet.
@elixthenese1469 Жыл бұрын
Its very "realistic" approach, and not that it is possible, its based of the approach that most likely describes our own reality. What have been done here is just the colors that author of the story used were reversed back to their lower factor. What we consider the Greatest story, for the most part at least, is how well it replicates the functions of our own reality while repainting it into a new color. The better the author approaches replicating our own reality, the deeper and profound the story gets. Berserk will be in very similar category in my experience, only it focuses on psychological word, rather than physical which I assume HxH is trying to work around.

If Togashi hadnt taken such huge Haituses, it and continued with normal weekly release, it would've taken about 7 years to reach where we are now in the story arc (Ch. 400), and by now We'd probbaly be in at around 1000 chapters, which doesnt seem too insane considering there's stuff like One Piece, that has that much story to it.

Hunter x hunter isn't about a singular individual or their dream because they're small in the grand scheme of things. It is simply about exploring this vast and mysterious world and what it has to offer. This is why Togashi is capable of creating an intriguing cast of characters and being able to easily replace them at moments notice. Because whether their involved or not the story/native continues. Hunter x hunter has no END.

Beautifully said. I wanted to include something like this in the video too. The message is “yes, you are tiny in the grand scheme of things, but that doesn’t make you any less important.” Like Koala said, DNA is so tiny but it carried incredible amounts of information. HxH preaches this idea, we may be tiny in the world but we carry incredible amounts of value. As long as we enjoy the journey, enjoy the detours, and don’t waste our lives obsessing over truly invaluable things.

Something I haven't seen anyone else mention is how, in japan, the whale is seen as the manifestation of the god Ebisu, the god of fishermen and luck. The first scene in HxH is of Gon catching the "Master of the Swamp" Which resulted in Gon being allowed to take the hunter exam, at the same age as Ging. So the very first scene is of Whale Island, and Gon being a lucky fisherman. The name of the whale that Hunter x Hunter resides on, may just be Ebisu/Hiruko.

I have a feeling togashi didn't even realize he was setting this up and then has just rolled with it. everything in HXH seems to be planned out but he's very open about the fact that he's an improvisational author he just makes shit up, changes his mind on a whim Machi is alive because he decided she had more interesting things to do in the future
@Puerco-Potter Жыл бұрын
Yeah, Togashi is good at writing because he takes really long to do so. He basically examines every chapter in his head and comes with the best solution that ties the random stuff he did earlier. So, I think the world could be a whale in some ocean, but at the end of the day he won't be hinting towards it.
@voice-less Жыл бұрын
You're taking what Togashi said out of context, in the same author's notes where he mentioned that he left machi alive, simply because he thought it could create a better more interesting outcome later on, he also said that he, just like other authors, has a general idea of where he wants the story to go. Basically, just common sense, it's impossible to simply write the entire story with every single detail and event in one go, authors generally have a certain framework they want to follow, they might create the world, and then establish a certain timeline of events that are constant, with a possibility of adding more later down the line, and as they write, they can think of the small details of how they travel that said timeline as they go. Togashi has stated before that he had already ideas of 3 to 4 arcs future arcs back when he finished the chairman election arc, which is a natural thing to do as a writer, as a good writer that is, it's always best to establish the bigger picture first before writing out the smaller details. So to simply call it improvisation and ''making shit up" is undermining to his writing capabilities, it's more so a combination of thinking ahead, while also being flexible and fluid, able to connect the general themes of the show in ways that can flow seamlessly without contradiction, creating a coherent realistic stream of events.
@jamie8703 Жыл бұрын
@@voice-less nothing about what I said undermines his abilities the story is incredible all the same he makes shit up and leaves plot holes because the core of the story is about the characters and their internal conflicts. My best theory is Gon losing his access to nen is part of the same journey Gene went on and is a vital part of unlocking true nen knowledge. Because he lost his SIGHT of nen, he will have to find another way. Like Komugi who has no knowledge of nen but has one of the best abilities. Don is probably on level with nen where it’s not Nen to him it’s just what he does. The world got nen from this dude but couldn’t understand it like he did. Gene can use many different nen abilities because he also understands something different about nen that Gon will find out

I suppose this is a foreign concept for most people, but flowers and explosives being tied together, compared to one another or serve as a metaphor is actually pretty common in Japan and, likely by proxy, in Brazil In Japanese "fireworks" is "hanabi" which translates to "fire flower" and, here in Brazil, we have a poem about the events that marked the end of WWII called "Hiroshima Rose" which I would be very surprised if it had absolutely no bearing in Togashi's choice to include the Poor Man's Rose there, given that the international relationships between Japan and Brazil are actually much closer than one would think

it's my understanding that "magical creatures" such as the kiriko are able to achieve their magic with an innate nen ability. It's not created by the individual creature, it's inherited and doesn't necessarily abide by the same rules as a personal nen ability. The kiriko for example are able to use conjuration to look like different things, and Ai is able to use specialization to grant any wish. Since nen is the lifeforce of all living things in HxH, it makes sense that at some point some creatures would manage to subconsciously tap into the nen reserves, and i feel like this'll happen more on the dark continent where survival of the fittest dictates that only the strong survive, so perhaps only creatures with innate abilities, thus magical creatures, are able to survive in the dark continent
@danielsepulveda5852 Жыл бұрын
well, its kinda confirmed that creatures do have a conection and can use Nen to a certain degree. For example, Gon is able to use Zetsu instinctively during the Hunter Exam, and they said that he achieves that just like animals that knows how to hide their presence the same way Gon did. So its basicaly confirmed that animals do have access to Nen and Nen abilities since from the start of the series. Also the god like creatures in the dark continent are basically just animals AND plants with weird ass crazy magic powers, probably derivated from Nen, so yeah, I think prety much everything in HxH world has Nen and some animals could have been able to achieve a better specialized form use of Nen depending on their evolution and life conditions.

The only questions i have about HxH are surrounding how Kite "came back" The last weapon we see him get is a magical girl wand. When Gon apologizes to his dad for Kites death, Gons dad cuts him off and says something like "Calm down, he's not dead. Crazy Slots gives Kite a weapon when he really doesn't want to die." So is this weapon the Magical Girl Wand? How does it work? Based on Gons dads response, has he witnessed Kite using this ability before? Since Kite came back looking different (a red haired girl) does that mean the Kite we know also isn't how he's always looked? Why was Kite birthed from that chimera ant queen? What are all the other weapons Crazy Slots can give Kite?
@Yonkage-ik5qb Жыл бұрын
I never liked Ging's explanation for that, because it's not even required. Several people "came back" as Chimera Ants who didn't even know nen when they were alive. The only difference is Kite wasn't eaten by the Queen. But when a person is killed and their long-dead body is chopped up into meatballs before being eaten, digested, and the constituent proteins used to make offspring, the method of how their "soul" gets into the resulting newborn ant is a completely supernatural one anyway. There's no reason Kite's soul couldn't just hang around his corpse a while and then float over the Queen at some point; everyone else's did.
@ancientknowledgeworld Жыл бұрын
i think that the weapons Kite drag to the fights are in some way scripted, just think with me, a scythe its a great weapon to slay a large number of enemies, and a gun a great weapon to keep the distance (the anthill, Yunju and the other ants),he cannot choose his weapon but will come the most suitable one. To me, the weapon he dragged to face pitou doesn't have any attacks due to his size and shape but if the user dies when using it, he will rebirth in the nearest pregnant creature. so he was not worried to fight pitou Its a theory that i've thought that make sense beacuse the Queen didn't eated Kite's brain so he couldn't remember he was Kite when he reborned as a girl

Immediately what I don't like about this theory is the constant stretches of logic. The human painting who is "no longer human" is clearly different from the immortal, the human painting was done as punishment for incompetence, whereas the immortal man is a sick person. Little flower as a nen ability could have easily been Genthru being inspired by a pre-existing explosive, its a link with so little significance it means nothing. The concept that HxH is constantly ""referencing itself"" is called preference. An author will have specific ideas of what a "mystical jar" looks like, so two mystical jars will probably look similar. Characters being on top of animals is even more of a stretch, they're not even canon they're usually volume covers. This whole video is extrapolating from nothing, seeing things that don't exist because you're looking too hard. No Radman, Jesus wasn't in your rice, you were just looking too hard to meaning and saw something that didn't exist.

Does anyone think it's possible that the story and themes of hunter x hunter may be inspired by pinocchio? What if gon wanting to become a hunter and his transformation are inspired by pinocchio wanting to and becoming a real boy which in pinocchios case is meant to symbolise his maturation) in the case of gon when he transforms, his realisation that life isn't fair, the good guys don't always win and the world can be a cruel place, and when gons realises this and transforms he feels a sense of freedom and relief because he doesn't care anymore about life and this may be a dark twisted way of mirroring pinocchios transformation and pinocchios desires to not want to be a puppet and to have no strings attached, not only gon pre chimera ant is portrayed as being a naive happy go lucky individual very similar to how pinocchio is before all the lessons he learns, and in the pinocchio book and film pinocchio is deceived by a talking cat (multiple times in the book and on one ocassion leads to pinnochios dying and him having to be resurrected by the blue fairy) which is similar to how gon feels like pitou a talking betrayed him by not healing kite qnd how gon defeating pitou also led to gon essentially dying and needing to be resurrected by a wish granting being (meaning maybe allukah could represent the blue fairy from pinocchio) and at the end of pinocchio in order for him to become a real boy he has to save his father from a giant whale qnd ging is currently on the black whale ship, so if my theory is true then maybe gon has to rescue at some point in the story in a way that involves him getting to the dark continent. Kites death and reincarnation as a chimera ant which gon blames himself for maybe a reference to pinocchio hanging around lampwick who was a trouble maker and bad influence on pinocchio who ended up getting turned into a donkey qnd getting killed and eaten. Kites death being used to show gon that the chimera ants are no joke and are serious threat maybe a reference how lampwicks fate was used to show pinocchio he needs to take his life seriously. Also in another one of my theories I said that gyros animal /ant form could be based on a self aware like a dolphin and a dolphin is essentially a bootleg whale so maybe the proverbial whale gon may have to save his father from is gyro. Also the whale symbolism doesn't just stop with the black whale ship, but is furthered by the fact that gon is literally from "Whale" Island

It kind of reminds me of a play called Iona (Jonah in English) by Romanian author Marin Sorescu where a fisherman is eaten by a huge fish. When he escapes from its belly, he finds himself inside an even bigger fish. This repeats for a while until he comes to realize that he's in an endless row of bellies. He later realizes he "started off well, but chose the wrong path" and that he should've gone "the other way". The play ends with Jonah killing himself while saying "somehow we'll find our way to the light". I think this fits the themes of Hunter x Hunter quite well.

The reason i think its called mobius lake, is because the characters and everything is literally a part of this whale, an infentessimal part of its consciousness being spread across everything which is the power known as nen, the mobius part of the lake references that everything is as above as it is below. The universe that is the whale encompasses infentessimal parts within it, but also itself as its main component so its a returning loop where if you go infenetly down you end up at the "outside" or at the whale which encompasses all. The mobius part now referring to that the whale may be a fifth dimensional whale, which from this third dimensional perspective seems to have a shape with moebius properties. In the same way that the ship Black Whale is a vessel for the characters to get to the dark continent, perhaps Yoshihiro Togashi is like this whale of creation that creates the charaters , where even the whale is created; in which case a whale creates a whale which creates a whale which houess the characters... Maybe its whales all the way down and all the way up, maybe not even necessarily whales, just each living being creating their own universe within themselves based on how they utilize the all prevailent force nen, so maybe the whale is like an ascended nen being existing as a sort of demigod creating unconsciously using the power of nen?

not really. if you rewatch / read HXH you'll find A LOT of foreshadowing for future events (for example, the existence of alluka, meteor city, the devil's song, the chimera ants being from the dark continent, gyro, etc)
@StripedJacket Жыл бұрын
There’s a fine line between foreshadowing and just hinting & worldbuilding. If he left out Gon’s mother & we all know she exists and when she eventually enters the story does that = foreshadowing? I would say no, same with Alluka. They weren’t foreshadowed. There needs to be more tangible evidence, for example if Killua had stated something about how Alluka may be the only person in his family that is reliable. Bam when they’re revealed and we go back we see the breadcrumb that damn SHE WAS RELIABLE, VERY MUCH SO. But we only knew they existed from the picture

My favorite concept for why the Dark Continent seems completely seperate from the known world and why the world looks spherical despite possibly containing more mass than could possibly exist in a world of its size is this: Sort of like how in Lord of the Rings, the world has conventional physics when it comes to the planet, but at a certain point, it connects to the otherworldly plane of the gods, actualized in the existence of a singular strip of the planet known as the Narrow Way bending off into the cosmos to Valinor. I think that the "true" map of the world is a visualization of the world that cannot be interpreted in its true form. While the planet is contained within Lake Mobius, it's possible that by impossible geometries, the planet wraps and completes itself like any other, but at certain points it intersects the plane that the Dark Continent exists on. The gatekeepers explain that there's only a single channel that there is passage to the Dark World, which makes the Narrow Way concept seem possible. This also explains how over thousands or perhaps millions of years, the chimera ant that found its way to the planet is one of the only natural world-ending calamities to occur. Since if it was really just an endless sea between the Dark Continent and the known world, it wouldn't be so uncommon for a calamity to swim its way or fly to the known world.

All I’m gonna say is 1) the argument that the world is a whale is unconvincing, and 2) youpi has human genes since the chimara ant queen who gave birth to him has human genes in her. That’s why she’s human sized.

Dark continent is universal unconscious, the character is personal unconscious and conscious, the whale is ego. Killua meet nanika is meeting with his anima (repressed feminine) that live in unconscious realm.. I think hxh is referenced of carl jung in mind of neglected child (gon, killua, meteor city, phantom troupe, etc)

HxH is such a beautiful and inspiring story. No other manga drives people to create, so much in depth content. This world, is the world everyone wishes our world could be. Grounded, but still full of mystery. Not every question, will be met with an answer

@@rikkosmappouros9494 ok? I like one piece as well. Also this wasn't about "having the most theories". It's about how the world is written, so much uncertainty, so many things to question and ponder. The link with the author moebius is a stretch. He draws people on top of animals like togashi --> the world of HxH is a whale ? Saying that a whale world would "perfectly fit" meobius style without any other reference is just speculative. I like your videos but the theories are kinda stretchy in my opinion. Of course it is possible to find links between small details among dozens of manga tomes, but it doesn't mean that everything is linked and makes a whole coherent sense ! Same thing with the whale nen part, it's similar to saying that it's all in Gon's head and that he dreams everything : impossible to prove/refute therefore it is not a valid theory. Beside what would be the point of the whale world ? Togashi already did the world within the world twist with the dark continent reveal. That's great because it explains a lot and drives the plot etc. but puting all that on top of a whale, wouldn't it be too much ? Anyway just nitpicking keep up the great work :)

your take about the world of HxH being on the back of a giant whale reminds me of how in Hindu mythology, the earth is supported by four elephants standing on the back of a turtle... and the whole thing about "everything" being created by said whale unconsciously also reminds me of the Cthulu mythos and how the universe/multiverse is basically Azazoth dreaming it into reality...

This wreaks of scrambling for depth and patterns to establish ones opinion as profound... "Sometimes it's a Boat, and sometimes it's more of an Accident. It all depends" His introduction of ideas is always hyper deliberate. The bloom, the urn they were all set pieces introduced in such a obvious "this is going to be important later" slap you in the face story telling. There's litterally nothing in this manga that was subtly introduced to pave the way for later integration, it's just things that most people miss because they're hardly paying attention, also I refuse to believe as great of a storyteller as togashi is he'd go through hack "ITS ALL A DREAM " but nen idea...That would be soooooo bad

Your friend for sure is creative and has lots of free time xD But the only way we can valdiate this theory and just have it as a really cool head cannon. Is if the Whale is a god of sorts, that created the world, but exists out side of it, like Azathoth from HP Lovecraft or the Turtle from Stephen King's IT mythos.
