I just read your update, and I'm honestly devastated. I was watching the episode, thinking how much I really need to go there, and then immediately afterward get hit with the news that it's gone. I know you said he's selling the recipes, but we all know that if 100 different chefs make the same dish, from the same ingredients, from the same instructions, they'd end up with 100 different (although similar) tastes. So much more went into those pies! From his skills, to his ovens, to his local connections to get the right ingredients fresh from the farms . . . and now the perfect combination of circumstances that led to the experience you had, will be no more. That's really, really sad.

Just like the steak episode with Bill AKA Meat Yoda, this episode turned out so much better than a Michelin starred restaurant taste test would’ve gone. Sure, seeing Josh and Ollie enjoy gourmet food at a fancy restaurant would’ve been great. But seeing them go to a humble little pie shop in the middle of Scotland and be absolutely blown away with every single pie they ate is far more enjoyable to watch. It’s also great that Trossachs Pies are affordable and accessible, so anyone who can make their way up to Scotland can have the same experience. And Danny AKA Einstein of Pies AKA Pie Yoda seems like just the loveliest man. He’s literally won international awards for his pies, but he’s still so humble-again, the perfect complement to Josh and Ollie. I’m not saying that I hope more of your plans fall through, but it’s worked out well so far! Looking forward to the rest of this series!!!

Best pie’s I’ve ever had was in a small pub in North Wales just outside Betwys-Y-Coed in Snowdonia. I’m from south Wales and we were on holiday there a few years ago staying at my friends rental cottage. We had wanted to eat at a different restaurant but they were jam packed and a local came over and suggested we visit the ‘Pieminister’ at this lowly pub just up the mountain. We went in not expecting much but my god were we wrong !! It’s the best pie we’ve ever tasted ANYWHERE. My husband had steak and ale and I had Chicken, ham and leek pie, and the Chicken was out of this world, the Steak was superb but the Chicken was just beyond amazing. We met the Pieminister who was an elderly lady who handmade them everyday herself. She told us that the recipes were past onto her grandchildren who would be able to make them when she could no longer do so - so thank goodness for that ! We went back and had dinner there again on our last night as even our sons preferred the pies to everything else we could’ve had…

The concept of savoury pies - or just pies in general - is not that popular in Germany, but when I was on a holiday in Wales, I basically survived on mushroom pies - I loved them. Never tried steak pie though - since I love steak, I might need to try that sometime. The family was rather skeptical about British food (sorry guys, but the rep is not the best), but I actually enjoyed most of it - and they were positively surprised as well.

I generally find that those who don't have a positive perspective on British food have either never eaten any and are going on a stereotype they've heard, or have only eaten what is sold at overpriced tourist spots. British food, especially home-cooked by a British mum, is some of the best, most hearty food in the world. It's all about comfort. You could eat any British dish as comfort food.

I have never been more jealous of wanting to try something to eat in my life. The crust on the pastries looks like they were made by Wolfgang puck. We do not have meat pies in Texas and I am dying to try one now. I may have to just try and make some myself.

You know everything is good when the pie guy was asked which was his favorite, he said tbh all of them are nice. Its like when they went to the burger place and the guy was like nah man theres no signature they're all very good.

2 plans in a row get canceled yet a more magical experience is created if the Chef didn't bail on them in the first place, the butcher lady wouldn't tell them about her friend and the pie shop

How dreadful that they had to close down due to damned energy costs! I hope that they find a buyer for those spectacular recipes so that they will live on forever!

This has convinced us to visit this bakery. We are planning a trip to Scotland in early fall and planned to visit Stirling Castle. We will have to drive a little further north and have lunch.

As a Korean, I've never had a decent meat pie. Honestly, most pies in Korea is sweet dessert. Ooh...can't relate but somehow make me eager to taste...

Your comment made me wonder what Korean meat pies would be like. Maybe one with samgyeopsal and kimchi? Or bulgogi and cheese? Someone make this a reality please!

Given that most food in Korea looks delish maybe it would be too close to heaven to have sumptuous meat pies too... what would you have to aim for?
