@C Jones Why would one take the time to film something as common as the sun at noon? It's the same thing with carving. Sure only 10% of skiers and snowboarders know how to carve effectively. But 10% of a crowded resort on a busy day will equal out to thousands of people. That's not that uncommon. Now add buttering and the percent drops. But now back to the crowded resort. Most of us are straight lining through the crowds of beginners on busy days so this limits the carving. Want to see carving? Get on the freshly groomed run a few minutes after opening on a packed powder day and you will see some shoulder dragging carves being laid down. Maybe I am spoiled. I live near lake Tahoe, it's where professionals are made.

Ryan has merged the carving and freestyle world of snowboarding. His approach is extremely realistic, especially in a world of monster half pipes, rails, and complicated spins. Ryan keeps the technical stuff on the ground and explains the physics of it. His edge control is absolutely amazing; textbook riding. Hopefully hard booters don't get too upset with the title.

@@SnowboardProCamp Gotcha. The title of your video implies that you have seen all the carving snowboarders in the world. In case you missed these: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4OZZWmcZrxsnLM Patrice is in the white and blue. Jacque aint half bad neither. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fp2zZpxqoJmWh9k The guy in the puke green jacket built Ryan Knapton's board. Todd is in red. I rode his 210cm. What a beast. IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE that if you touch the ground with any part of your body you are taking pressure off the edge, potentially nullifying the carve. I was tempted to put Todd first. But Patrice and Jacque can ride without touching if they choose. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bmGuont7e890iNU Just in case you didn't know, they groom those race courses like concrete. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nGOcYoSCoJyDoJY These are pristine carves. Don't get me wrong, Ryan is a king among men. I think he's one of the best riders ever. A blast to watch and be inspired by. His carving is legit solid. But "World's Best" is a bold statement, and in this case wrong. Oh. And before you hit me with your next rebuttal... You wouldn't use a Volkswagen bug to plow a field in the same way soft boots are not the best tool for carving. But if you insist: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nGOcYoSCoJyDoJY kzbin.info/www/bejne/i6rMiaVjgZ2NfNE kzbin.info/www/bejne/e3vVapmemMqGgNU kzbin.info/www/bejne/fYvGaGR-oc2JmJI kzbin.info/www/bejne/pX67p355pZ2mrac kzbin.info/www/bejne/baLXqGWIeLeffs0 kzbin.info/www/bejne/poDWfKqfmqh1rdk Premium. Softboot. Carving. Not as fun to watch as Ryan but the best feeling. "Like riding a roller coaster. You pick the track." -Jack Michaud. Just went snowboarding for the first time. I knew it was going to be hard, but was motivated to have fun. Holy Shxt!! Was out of breath constantly, nervous after gaining too much speed, and scared of falling hard after a couple big impacts. Oh man what a day!! After 6 long and scary hrs of busting my axx, I was able to make it down a blue from the lift back down to the bottom lift without falling. After about 10 green runs prior and 4 blue runs I was spent and went home sore and exhausted. It was 8 degrees and I was sweating bullets. Will be going again hopefully this year. This guy is absolutely amazing and it looks like he is floating.

One thing that really helped me to nail low-down carves was to turn the board slightly uphill in the curve before transferring weight to the other edge. This would mean, for example, that I would be on the toe-side edge with my body facing down the slope and the board above me. It would mean that the carve would begin sooner so I could get my hands to the floor earlier. You can see this here, especially where he gets his elbow on the snow mid-carve. I also liked to keep my back arm by my hip so it looked a cleaner carve but that's a little tricky on the balance sometimes. Amazing carving here, love the guy's style. What I now want to learn is to butter. That looks great!

Notice he is always in athletic position- that knee suspension is extremely critical + activating the ankles and steering with them (not the knees) is key to carving. Second is physics- every perfectly carved curve must have an instantaneous radius of curvature, in other words a perfectly carved line forms a part of a circle. If not, you're are skidding. With that in mind, visualize where you want that instant center of rotation to be before your carve. The tighter the curve you eant to carve the smaller the instantaneous radius if curvature, you can use your head as the center of rotation for this one so your head is almost stationary in place during carving. The wider the curve the bigger the radius. Good luck.

Awseome vid, my 2 fav youtube snowboarders ! it's great to give Ryan K.'s channel some exposure, I feel he does not have half the subscribers he should. I've learned so much from his vids. True, for now I catch more edges than anything and limp home with a concussion, leaving my teeth scattered on the slope (many will know well that feeling...), but I will get there some day ! The mark of a master is to make something really difficult look effortless. That's Ryan K summed up. Thumbs up Kevin for featuring him !
