I think the joke is that it's obvious which hand had the razor because it was "bleeding" but yea, something about it felt awkward. I think the delivery needed to be tweaked. If he had insisted that the audience pick and then when they did he "noticed" that his hand was bleeding and panicked, I think it would have sat a little better. As it is it comes out and leaves very quickly and the payoff seems lacking.
