4:32 -- did you see what fell? 4:47 -- the girl in the therapy group next to Gary is the same who played Mary in "Shaun Of The Dead". The names of the pubs set the stage for what was going to happen in each pub. For example, "The Two-Headed Dog" involved the twins, and "The Mermaid" had the notion of the sirens, and "The King's Head" had Gary deciding whether or not he should stop at the tenth bar. The story that Gary told in therapy set up what was going to happen to the guys, when they returned.

The choral music when Gary's blank is revealed is the introduction to "This Corrosion" by seminal goth band The Sisters Of Mercy, the band whose logo Gary has tattooed on his chest. As a long-time Sisters fan, I laughed like a drain when I heard that musical cue in the cinema, which was all the more amusing because no-one else got the reference and I was the only one laughing.... Also, a missed opportunity: the soundtrack should have made room for another classic by the Sisters, Dominion, if only for the line "In the land of the blind, be (Gary) King".

Most people consider the 2nd to be the best (and I'm not going to argue) But this one is still my favorite. It might be a different vibe from the others but it is also the most MATURE in it's themes... and really if you look at the 3 movies as a whole this one acts is a perfect conclusion to the filmmaking style throughout My favorite aspect of this film is the fact that what WERE "callbacks" in the first two movies with lines and actions... now are woven so thoroughly into the script of this one that it's almost as if the entire second half of the movie is a mirror to the first. Basically EVERYTHING said before the 'Blank'-reveal is either a direct reference to something that's going to happen or it's a line that will be repeated word-for-word later in a different context. I mean.... he literally TELLS YOU THE PLOT OF THE WHOLE MOVIE YOU'RE ABOUT TO WATCH in the opening monologue 🖐😳 It's SOOOO IMPRESSIVE 🤯 And that's just one minor point there's also the editing and music and comedy and acting and all sorts of other stuff. It's a fitting magnum opus... even if it goes less appreciated by much of the casual fanbase 🤷♂

Of the Cornetto trilogy, I'd agree but Paul(2011) is my favorite Pegg/Frost two-hander
@godricbarbarossa800123 күн бұрын
Also my favorite because of the mature themes. We all knew/know a Gary King, an incredible narcissist who peaked in high school. They were incredibly fun to be around, but left destruction in their wake. However, you do feel sympathy for him and his failure to launch by the end. I like that between the three movies Pegg and Frost play three very different characters, especially in comparison to each other. In Dead Pegg is middling and Frost is a loser. In Fuzz Pegg is successful and Frost is middling. In End Pegg is a loser and Frost is successful.

The World's End does have a different vibe to the other two. It has a more adult, serious theme of mental health, addiction, relationships and death. There is a common theory that Gary was going to end it all after the crawl was over. He has no cloths in face he brings nothing with him. He want's to end at The World's End. The fight at The World's End is another turning point. Gary has hidden his problems and wouldn't show his arm. His long coat and holes for his thumbs mean his never reveals anything. But when his wrists are revealed and we see the bandages, wow. It suddenly turns very real and we understand why Gary is acting this way. The line "It's all I've got" is heartbreaking. That moment and the bandages reveal changes Gary completely. This deserves multiple rewatches. The more you watch the more you realise this is way better than you thought on first viewing. Also fun fact everyone wearing blue was a blue blood. Along with the musketeers talk in the car foreshadowing two of them won't make it, along with their position in the car three are visible and the other two hidden. I can't pick the best or my favourite because they are all so good. One of the best trilogies ever made.

This is my favourite of the 3. I saw it in a cinema in Glasgow knowing little of what it was about but had liked previous films. I am same age as Simon and rest of cast characters and were Sisters of Mercy fans and got the references and knew Gary Kings and went in pub nights like that. The interesting thing was in cinema the young audience did not find it amusing and older audience did not get the cultural time specific points, the music the bands and films we were watching at the time (Terminator, The Thing , Jackie Chan stunt fighting films) so there was a small section of people who were just having the best hilarious laugh and a poignant reminder of our youth and desire not to leave it behind. Hope you can get your band back together and have a wonderful meet up with your past

Funny enough, he's wearing a Sisters of Mercy shirt, and tattoo, and the band I was in covered a Sisters of Mercy song. I'm a bit younger than Simon Pegg, so I remember really feeling like I was looking at my future - and really, I was. Minus robots.

This film taught me about the 180 degree rule in filmmaking. When Peter meets Shane Hawkins in the woods the camera "crosses the line" and disorientates the viewer. Usually filmmakers avoid doing it unless they want to instill a sense of unease. Kubrick used it in The Shining.

Some time if you're up for it binge watch the series Spaced. If you check online it is VERY high rated and that show where all of this and these people started together. There are even some bits which I won't spoil that directly led to these movies. And it is everything that is endearing and entertaining about these films. Just a lot more of it and perhaps more slowly paced.

This movie takes inspiration from 50's SciFi movies like Invasion of the Bodysnatchers, which of course was remade in the 70's and the 90's. The original from the 50's drew heavily on the fear of a Communist takeover that was prevalent in that time, while the remakes of course dwelled on similar fears of their own times.

The World’s End I feel tends to get overlooked quite a bit, largely because of how popular and beloved its predecessors were, and also due to it being much darker and more bittersweet, but I personally love this one. Simon and Nick’s performances are fantastic, it’s great to see them flip their usual dynamic and generally give more serious and dramatic performances than usual - that scene in The World’s End where we find out Gary attempted s**c*de and he rants about how his life never got better than that one night in 1990 is just devastating. And yet, the script also has plenty of the same witty humour as the other films, there’s loads of great riffing on other examples of this genre (Invasion of the Body Snatchers seems to be a particularly big influence), and we have some brilliantly fast-paced intensely choreographed action scenes. I still think Hot Fuzz is the best of the trilogy, but for me personally, this is a very close second (and Shaun obviously an equally close third).
