Every movie has the spoilers in the first act: Shawn of the Dead: The "...we rescue a princess and end up in the pub ... its not gonna kill you" after-breakup-speech. Hot Fuzz: "You cant make people just disappear" "Sure I can - I am the Chief Inspector" during the transfer-talk with Bill Nighys character who has the same Rank as Frank Butterman who literally lets people disappear. Worlds End: The recap of the golden Mile - everyone gets replaced in the same order at the same time and they end up on the hill looking down on the orange glow... and every pubname is a spoiler too.
@deadcatthinks67252 ай бұрын
Also for Hot Fuzz, at the fete - the Dr says "take out all the little people and you get to walk off with the cuddly monkey", Angel and Danny take everyone out and walk (well, drive) off together.
@januzi22 ай бұрын
Basically, the AA story is a recap of the movie: meeting sister, getting kicked out of the bar, the bar fight, meeting Bazil and reverend, the smoke house, even sitting at the hill above the village. "Life will never be the same after that night". In Hot Fuzz the questions ("Have you ever ...") also were describing the things that were happening in the movie.

Agree wholeheartedly. At first it was my least favourite, but on rewatches I finally got the meaning of the movie. Like you said it's relatable to so many people that never moved on from their youth, and aren't able to live in a "grown up" world. All those dreams we had when we were young that we can never live up to, crushes the spirit. It hits very hard.

My favourite line delivery in this movie is when Gary says "They told me when to go to bed!". This may not seem like a hardship, but what it represents is that he reached such a low point that he could not be trusted like an adult, and had lost all his agency just like a child. Being forced to go to bed is only something that happens to young children and prisoners (and army recruits, but it's probably more accurate to say they are ALLOWED to go to sleep since they exist in a perpetual state of exhaustion)

I also like the fact that you research the films pretty extensively, because you pick up information that we may not know, even though we know the film. Anyway, I would like to suggest a film called "The Last Samurai". I don't know if it's on any top 200 lists, but it's an epic movie that's worth a look. The choral music which plays when the Blank version of Gary is unveiled is the introduction to "This Corrosion" by the Sisters of Mercy. As a long-time devotee of the Sisters ("Floodland" is my favourite album), I laughed like a twat when I heard the voices kick in, which was made doubly amusing by the fact that everyone else in the cinema was completely silent because they didn't understand the reference.... I also think that someone messed up by not having "Dominion", another track from "Floodland", play over the end credits. Purely for the line "In the land of the blind, be (Gary) king".

I'm so happy you reacted to this. :) I LOVE that you got teary-eyed when Gary was pouring his heart out at The World's End. My aunt distracted us with a challenge. "Let's see how many trucks we can count?" I was up to 3 when I asked "Do trucks in the water count?" My aunt looked at me, puzzled. "What does THAT mean?" I pointed out the window. "That one FLOATING out there." They were shocked to see I wasn't kidding. A truck had crashed through the railing just minutes before. My aunt declared me the winner. I wasn't angry with my sister anymore. 😂

The World's End has all the hallmarks of the other two films, the amazing writing, acting, repeating jokes eg the fence jumping, clever foreshadowing and plenty more. But this one is different it has more depth and a darker undertone. Gary is not just obnoxious, self-centred, lying narcissist but he has depth to his character. The reveal of the bandages was heartbreaking. This was his last dance, he didn't plan on leaving after the last drink. (If you catch my drift) The all needed a bit of escapism and this crawl was it. Even though it didn't go to plan it did sort of helped with their problems. The fact every blank was wearing blue and every car was the same is genius. Then notice two of the friends are wearing blue from the start foreshadows they won't make it. Also this was foreshadowed heavily in the beginning with multiple references. The subtle hints that Gary came from a mental health clinic/facility with the coping mechanisms. Just a little hint that there is more to Gary than meets the eye. This film doesn't get enough credit because its right up there with the other two and in some aspects better. They really out did themselves with this trilogy and don't think it will be matched any time soon. Truly a chefs kiss and only gets better on multiple viewings.

And most likely, we will keep making mistakes - if not repeating the old ones, then at least making new ones. So the trick is to just keep living. Since you love the Cornetto Trilogy and Simon Pegg/Edgar Wrights collabs... absolutely check out their show Spaced. A lot of the actors from there popped up in the Trilogy

You might like the Guy Ritchie films, too. It's just a lot of British banter. Snatch is one of my favourite movies. The villains in this movie are alcohol and nostalgia.

I was about 20 when Shaun of the Dead came out, and it immediately became my favorite movie. I don't think I could have appreciated this movie properly if I saw it at 20.
