The World's End Murders is the colloquial name given to the murder of two girls, Christine Eadie, 17, and Helen Scott, 17, in Edinburgh, in October 1977. The case is so named because both victims were last seen alive leaving The World's End pub in Edinburgh's Old Town. The only person to stand trial accused of the murders, Angus Sinclair, was acquitted in 2007 in controversial circumstances.

This was total failure of justice system and police work. He brutally raped and killed 7 years old The 10 years sentence was a joke itself but to let him go after 7 was an insult to the victim and her family. The system opened the door for him to kill and rape.

The western european justice system is crazy lenient compared to the united states and other systems of justice. You literally could get a 20 year sentence there for something that would get you the death penalty or life here in the states.

They let him out after raping and murdering a 7 year old!?!? Raping and killing anyone is evil, but a CHILD? He should have been put down, but no, he was released. I hope the public was outraged, and if this hasn’t been changed I really hope there’s a movement for harsher sentencing. Disgusting.

Child sexual assault is a much greater deal than much of the world makes it out to be. Criminals need to start serving hard time for these heinous acts, DSM classification or no DSM. These murders would have been prevented if this sick guy had just stayed in prison the first time.

Even if harsher laws come into existence, it'll only be for everyday folk, they won't be applied to the people in power or affluence. The world's governments are full of vile people who traffick and abuse children and they're never held accountable

He was 16 when he did that. Not defending him at all I think he should have gotten life at the time but the law would have treated him as a child too at least in some ways. They went above normal by sending him to a adult prison even for back then. Not sure about UK but in US they can’t give a child a life without a parole time or the death penalty. Of course UK doesn’t have the death penalty.

18 years old, but people were way more laid back in those days. In the USA people could drink at 18 as well. Politicians did that. Seriously, you can go to war and die for your country!!! Seriously, but no smoking or drinking until you are 21. Seriously, I'm so grateful I grew up in the late 80s and early 90s. I tell my kids all the time how great it was. This is just falling apart, and you can't do anything like you used to. 80s and 90s were the best ever. There's definitely something wrong when people get more time for selling drugs than brutally violating an innocent child. The end is near, so get right with God asap.

The U.S. has some unbelievable sentences of life w/o parole, 50 year sentences, decades waiting on Death Row, hundreds on Death Row with none carried out in years. A 19 year old girl spent 53 years behind bars even after 4 parole grants were given her but vetoed by a governor over politics.

Are you referring to Leslie Van Houten by any chance, very clever if that is the case. She stabbed Rosemary labianca even after she was dead she kept stabbing her even when no one was standing over her telling her to to do it. The trial was months and months later, it went on for four months, the sentencing was in January of 1972, after she'd been in jail for two-and-a-half years, with zero contact with Charlie... And she still had no remorse. Are you going to try and tell me that she had nothing to do with her own attorney being killed on a camping trip after he was followed. She had already gotten the death sentence so they didn't bother filing conspiracy charges on her for that. So she's a nice little old Granny now even though she's childless thank God. Clearly you are very young, but if you had lived through all of that, as my parents did, because they were just a few years younger than those girls ... The whole country lived through it, everyday for all that time.... You would say let life MEAN EXACTLY THAT. HER ENTIRE LIFE. Rosemary labianca never got to live out her life, she worked hard and saved and deserved everything she had, but if she had been a piece of crap she still never deserved to have her life taken, her last minutes an atrocity beyond imagination. She never got to to see her grandchildren. She was only 37 years old. Van Houten deserves to sit and rot. And that has absolutely nothing to do with "politics". Republicans. Could smell you a mile away. You see? now that was political. The only life that mattered for "53 years" was Rosemary Labianca's. And it will be the only life that matters until Leslie Van Houten takes her last breath. She will never matter.

As an American, I may not understand some things here. Those two girls seem like children to me that should not be in a pub drinking. Is this the norm in Scotland? I am not blaming them at all , but this concerns me as a parent. His initial sentence did NOT fit the crime & unfortunately we deal with that here as well. I wish I had the answer to freeing these horrible people from the cages they belong in for life. Personally , I would like them to be bound and gagged & locked in a room with the grieving family members to meet out whatever punishment THEY deem appropriate.

You are basically the only country, where you can be an adult and still not be allowed to drink. If you ever travel to a European country, then you can reasonably assume that the age to buy alcohol at bars is 18. In my family we have been drinking alcohol at restaurants since our mid-teens. Our parents just had to order and pay for it. It's assumed parents are perfectly able to decide if their teens should be allowed to drink or not. Many of us are drunk the first time at home. In Denmark we can buy beer and wine from age 16 and liquor from age 18. Bars, resturants ect. are allowed to sell alcohol to people aged 18 and up. Notice that it's the those selling the alcohol responsible for keeping these rules. It's perfectly legal for a 14 year old to get drunk, they just can't buy the alcohol themselves.
