King's Cross isn't short of trains - but did you know there are lots of miniature choo choos shuttling around here too? In this video, we meet members of The Model Railway Club, and discover the layout they started building in the 1980s... and still haven't finished!

Copenhagen Fields is an absolute delight. One of the finest models ever created on these shores. Thank for shining a light on these amazingly talented people.

But will they include little figures of the characters from the film the Lady Killers where the villains all die, which was filmed there?

I like his comment about turning 18 and the trains taking a backseat for awhile. A old hobby friend of mine once told me that “From the driver’s license to the marriage license the model trains go away.”

I remember their exhibitions many years ago. they had the big live steam layout which had to be rebuilt every time. My fave place to watch it was by the small terminus station where they had the tube train, which had a habit of derailing

For some reason the steam Locos relax me as they make their way around the track, especially with today's digital sound effects and lights. It reminds me of a more peaceful era.🙂

I visited that Club when I lived in London, I found that it was only around the corner from my work, so on the night they meet, I went along. It was very interesting.

I didn't know this place existed and it isn't far from where I work. For the critics something that isn't also said is a hobby such as this builds up lots of other skills such as electronics and wiring, woodworking and painting skills. All of these can be applied elsewhere.

From what I saw they have a nice layout. It's just too bad I don't have any of my trains running on their very own layout as well.

It's not totally male and some ofthe best modellers are female. The point is that generally speaking men and women have different interests. Women like hand bags and shoes but most men don't so I could say why is it part of the female psyche? Because it is. I live by a lake just about all the boat owners are male, yer there is nothing to stop a woman buying a boat.

What does it say? Curious
@paulhaynes8045
@paulhaynes8045 Жыл бұрын
@@goughrmp it says men use hobbies like this to fill up the gaps in their lives. Women don't (generally) have the same need because they have more important stuff to be getting on with. If only we could harness this energy and creativeness for the greater good of humanity, instead of just playing with toys. Or, to put it more succinctly, men don't grow up. (Because they don't have to - they always have women looking after them.)
@Robo94100
@Robo94100 Жыл бұрын
@@paulhaynes8045 'just playing with toys'. You sound miserable. It's an art form in and of itself, and time out of work is incredibly important. Are you suggesting that people shouldn't have hobbies or free time to do what they like? I would also bet a fair amount that the people who do this type of hobby also carry out very fulfilling and fruitful careers outside of this, in engineering, manufacturing or perhaps academia. It seems intellectually stimulating and sociable as an enterprise, and is far more productive than the vast majority of jobs that exist in the modern economy....
@paulhaynes8045
@paulhaynes8045 Жыл бұрын
@@Robo94100 playing with toys is still what it is though. Very clever toys that take a lot of effort and talent, but still just toys. Think what that effort, money and talent could do if put to better use.
