Klaus Stadlmann majored 2008 in industrial engineering at the TU Vienna. His degree thesis: "the development of an orthosis used in the supporting and measuring of a torque path of the ankle during rehabilitation" received special honors. At the moment he is finishing his pre-doc in technical sciences at Vienna's Technical University's Institute of Material Sciences and Technologies. Under the supervision of Prof. Stampfl he is involved in a working group concerned with the manufacturing of optical fibers.
About TEDx
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

You do realize that that was a time lapse, right? I don't think there are ANY 3d printers that can print that fast. And even though it was a time lapse, it's still pretty darn amazing!

Yeah it said it in smaller text in parentheses. I also knew just because I know a little bit about 3d printers. If I were to guess, I would say that took 3-5 hours to make. It might be longer, though.

So this one works with the liquid plastic and a laser? Not some hair-thin filament? We need to start setting these things up in series, so that the entire first layer can be made at once. This is a good step in that direction.

Amazing to think that in comparison to this printer, Willard Wiggins is able to produce sculptures by hand that are as small as only 3 microns. That is smaller than a human blood cell, I wonder if this printer could even manage to print an object that size?

Micro printers, goats that produce spider silk milk...the future is here, but still no fucking flying cars. C'mon scientists, stop messing about, make flying cars!

Pardon the pun... but this is huge! This could pave the way to nano scale or molecular level or even atomic level printing.

@elon92

Oh no, Im not just talking plastics, I mean I want to throw some old broken radios, phones, and other random electronics into the "grinder" and then get a brand new computer :D Or guitar, or whatever I want :D Except for food, I'd be using a DNA printer for that and grow the food :P I've been thinking about this, and if you vaporize any substance and then rapidly cool it you should end up with a fine powder, right? Then just use lasers to melt with extreme precision :D Like on the nano scale? :D
