@MadRS6 жыл бұрын
V8 Supercars have been running a spool since the early 90's. In race environments it actually gives you perfect control of the rear end. With the wheel turning at the same speed if you have the outside tyre at road speed and the inside over rotating you will get a neutral to slight over steer balance through the mid corner. If you have the inside tyre at road speed and the outside tyre under rotating you will get a neutral to under steer balance through the mid corner. If you have both tyres over rotating compared to the road speed..............that means your showing off.
@MrFoulksy6 жыл бұрын
@@MadRS I don't know about a spool diff giving 'perfect' rear control, otherwise they would be universally used for track driving. I would use a spool for drifting though. Also a spool will give understeer mid corner compared to a conventional diff because the two rear wheels don't want to follow the arc of the corner, they want to drive straight.
@hpa1016 жыл бұрын
A spool is not necessarily an ideal setup but as Chris mentions, many classes stipulate a spool and there are plenty of ways to make them work and a lot of understanding around their dynamics. Generally the biggest downside is that the tend to generate corner entry understeer. While a properly tuned LSD is superior to a spool, it actually takes a lot of work to setup and tune an LSD to get the best possible results. On the other hand a poorly setup LSD can easily underperform a spool so it's not perhaps as clear cut as many might assume.
