Years ago, I had a co-worker who had worked at Hollister. She said she was not allowed to smile, greet customers, or offer help. American here: I grew up in the east coast side of the states in a rural area with a lot of farms. Now not all of us in the area are farmers, but a good percentage still has some basic knowledge thanks to our curriculum adding agriculture based classes. Let me tell you why a 'non-GMO' produce technically does not exist. GMO, stands for: Genetically Modified Organism, pretty much ALL domesticated produce and livestock are GMO. I think right now, when people hear GMO they think chemical injections and overuse of pesticides (which are real to be honest, the over dependence on pesticides is creating weaker results) However, GMO doesn't have to be any sort of chemical AT ALL. A GMO is often something that has just been selectively bred. With selective breeding they often look for characteristics like: bigger mass, flavors, resistance to disease or pests, etc. Every single piece of food we eat whether it was grown or raised has faced thousands of years of selective breeding! Therefore it's ALL GMO. Even if you decide to buy seeds and use healthier methods of growing crops in your own yard, those seeds are the result of SELECTIVE BREEDING making it a GMO. Food that is not GMO is next to impossible UNLESS you choose to eat foods that have not been domesticated. Deer, wild turkey, or wild boar, are a few American meat based ones I can think of. As for fruits or vegetables, muscadines or scuppernongs are another example. They're basically the closest relative to a grape. All the store grapes you eat in America (yes, even the one labeled as 'California grapes') are descended from a European variety that faced thousands of years of domestication. The muscadine on the other hand, while it has faced some domestication, it's only has done so in the last few hundred years, meaning that even if you buy some or get seeds from a winery that specializes in muscadines, they still retain their wild and natural taste. (Muscadine jelly is THE BEST. Absolutely bursting with flavor and doesn't taste watered down like store grape jelly) Muscadines you still can just as easily find randomly in the wild too. Unfortunately for folks like me: I like chicken too much to give it up......Well wild duck tastes good too, but not as easy to get so I'll stick with my kfc lol TL;DR: 'Non-GMO' foods are next to impossible because humans have domesticated food for so long, that everything has been modified through one method or another, no matter if the farmer has used natural methods of farming. If you truly want food that is non-GMO go hunting or foraging in the woods and make sure you don't eat anything poisonous. Not all GMOs are bad, in fact without them, we wouldn't actually have as many foods as we do today.
@jenniferlee199312 күн бұрын
Well said. Thank you for the knowledge drop.
@flaamingeaux12 күн бұрын
@@jenniferlee1993 I don't hate influencers, but god so many of them are way too far removed from how agriculture is done in US and as a result, spread stuff as shown in this video without realizing it. Is it the best system in the world? No, in fact, there's actually a lot of issues that I won't get into here. But influencers are SO misinformed on the actual processes and tend to be focused on the wrong things unfortunately (like their obsession with foods not having GMOs rather than being worried about supporting local farmers directly or holding corporate farms accountable for harmful practices towards farmers, produce, and the environment)
@f.tp3428 күн бұрын
yess we love GMOs in our house. so many common misconceptions. we are local farmers (fruits and veggies) we personally do use GMOs but people tend to come to us because they think we don't. we also market as organic (because we are), which people think means no pesticides. we just use organic pesticides which yes does bring up cost as a small & local farmer, but not for the farms that mass produce.
@JauntyCrepe7 күн бұрын
Ok sorry but there is a difference between GMOS and the selective breeding that humans have done forever. This is directly from LSU’s agricultural center: “While hybrid and F1 hybrid plants originate from breeding techniques long used by humans, genetically modified organisms are a modern innovation created in the laboratory by inserting specific desirable genes into the genetic material of a plant. These desirable genes may even come from vastly different organisms that would never naturally cross with the plant.” I’m not talking about the ethics of GMOS or what my opinion is but you are factually incorrect here. I worked on an organic farm for a few years. Organic certification doesn’t allow for GMOS for this specific reason, but does allow for hybrid plants because those can even occur in nature.

So it's better to have a light calorie smoothie and a snack. Rather than a meal-replacement smoothie. And I say this as someone who LOVES smoothies.

If you ever get a Lidl, go there. It's only in a few East Coast states. Lidl is closer to me than Aldi. They sell the same stuff (different branding, of course), they have the same prices, BUT they have fresh baked breads in their bakery section, the produce is the first thing you see when you come in, their carts do not need a quarter (and people still put them back), and they have self-checkout. It's awesome. I LOVE Lidl!

About a decade ago I was an assistant to a high end fashion owner and she would send me to Erewhon a few times a month in her G-Wagon for guest refreshments. The people working there were older than me and would see me pull up and this one friendo valet guy I saw regularly eventually asked what I do for a living. I just said "work, just like you man" and he just gave a confused laugh. Never talked to me again after that 💀
@Lady_kirigakure12 күн бұрын
That 71 USD he spent on his plate and smoothie is equivalent to what we spend in fresh produce, a bit of meat and groceries for one month in my country for two people. 150 USD would include that and a trip to Costco for toilet paper, napkins, detergent and soap.

Trader Joe's isn't affordable for produce but you can get really good snacks and frozen foods for cheap or at least compared to WF. Even their skincare is pretty good, they have great dupes for expensive brands.

I have been to Erewhon before, it's overrated lol. I was also intrigued about what the hype was and they have a lot of vegan options I heard so I thought I can try something I never had before. I didn't get the smoothie, I walked right past that bar because no😂😂. I just got the buffalo cauliflower and vegan short ribs. The cauliflower was horrible. It was also cold??? The short ribs were bomb tho but not enough pieces for the price. I didn't do valet because... it seemed unnecessary lol. But they were right about all the luxury cars. Everyone had a G wagon If you live in SoCal like I do just go to Mother's Market, they have everything Erewhon has but much cheaper (still expensive but much cheaper). Everything is still organic, vegan, keto, raw, paleo, sustainable etc.. They also have a cafe inside and smoothie and juice bar!

Erewon has been around for a long time. It used to be a health food store that mostly hippies shopped in. Think organic and macrobiotic products 30 years ago. The prices were very high even back then. Probably about $200 for a 2 bags of items. We used to go a lot and we never saw celebs, just lots of smelly hippie types. Over the years as people became more health concious u'd see the farmer market, yoga, cyclist dual income athletic couple types shopping there. Then it got on the celeb radar and now its a social media haven. It used to be real clean, simply healthy stuff. Back in the day the only 'smoothie' they had was wheat grass shots. I think they were $8. Then they put in a salad bar years later and more food items after that.

the airport prices comment got me. i work at the airport and its crazy having to spend so much on the same things you can get outside for a cheaper price. this alone is a valid reason why they should pay airport employees higher.

I come from Italy and many of us are obsessed with food and we can be pretty annoying when judging (not only foreign food but also what is cooked by restaurants or friends, or family), now imagine how strict can some Italian chefs be (the good ones of course, we have bad chefs too). I would be really curious to see them tasting the food and give their judgement. If it's frozen stuff they would recognize it 100%.
