A lot of developers visualize the backrooms and get that liminal feeling and want to recreate it (Or they focus on the monster aspect and completely ignore the atmosphere). The only issue with this, is that an infinite amount of walking with homogenous visuals isn't entertaining. What I did for my own project was to keep that liminal aspect, but put it in a game that doesn't center around the act of walking. This concept of game needs a more complex objective than escape or survive, which is why I decided to have it center around a hotel. Set number of floors, known landmarks, and a few objectives to tie into a primary objective. Even without enemies, the game would still be a little fetch quest with a vast amount of sight seeing and activities. The fact that it does have enemies though, it complicates things. Instead of just a health bar and enemies that just bolt at you, things have to be carefully managed, have extreme consequences, and never do a specific programed action. (As in enemies can fall back or simply stalk)

That's pretty nice. It's cool to see more developers working on the Liminal-genre of Backrooms. More competition means more creativity and uniqueness to stand out. Even I struggle to properly progress with my game project with some certain core development objectives that I had set out last year. I certainly am not too worried about fans since it's more of a free passion project that will be done slowly. In the case of Fancy's Project, it's not bad given the pressure and serves the purpose of capitalizing his new massive fanbase for this genre. That popularity that had been gained from his videos has boosted his time into developing a fun-game for his fans. So good on him for sticking to it since it certainly is profitable, fun, and doable for a developer in that position. At the end of the day, most players won't really care and will move-on to the next entertaining game.

You should definitely replay Escape the Backrooms, it just got a huge update yesterday and me and a feiend played through all the new stuff in about 5 hours and had a blast with all the new content. Highly recommend!

@@NotTiawa I know right the female death moths were a PAIN in the boiler room. That part definitely took us the longest. Althought level 6 was my favourite levels of the new levels since it was such a unique concept. A neat little trick is that if you keep crouching the female death moths never get alerted you're there, doesn't save you from the nests though.

the complex: found footage in my opinion is the best one out there yet, and its free! everyone who plays will have a different playthrough each time and the game is not linear, its an open map you must find your way through to the next space or an exit. so many different paths each playthrough you will find/discover something new.

I’ve been following up with escape the backrooms, the creator on youtube is called fancy, the game is amazing and has serious potential, his update for the game came out yesterday actually, the game with friends and it’s proximity chat is amazing, he put new mechanics on the game which should be exciting, and lots of new maps.

So far the best two games i've seen are the "Escape the Backrooms" one that you reviewed (which got a massive update and is still getting updates that REALLY made it good) and a VR capable one called "Inside the Backrooms," which is also a pretty good one although idk if its still getting huge updates like the other one.

I played escape the backrooms all alone and actually i had tons of fun. The game was absolutely terrifying and trust me playing it with no friends made it into a literal terror. Not that it isnt scary while playing with friends but it would definetely be a lot goofier. It took me sometime to complete it but i like a challenge.

guns definitely exist in the backrooms universe. some entities are killable, some are not. the MEG (major explorer group) does not seem to be quite as militarized as the SCP foundation but they are definitely often armed.

Previously, there was nothing at all on Backrooms. So at least there is something. I've already found a couple of interesting games that follow the canon. So maybe because of the success some large company will take up the idea. The main problem is that the games on this fandom are either very short, or depart from the canon so much that there is only a name from the Backrooms

The worst one, undoubtedly, is the backrooms 1998. It goes for a whopping 15$ aud and is essentially just a tech demo about it’s goofy microphone thing. Best part though, is the terrible lore the dev used is based on a real murder story, so the dev made a real dead child his scary backrooms OC and then sold it for money. Grand.

Honestly level 0 is annoyingly over saturated. It has no room for depth of any kind and it's honestly not that spooky of a location and I hate how many games just use lvl 0 and only lvl 0 when if you do any research into it there's like 13 canonical levels that are really well made and really fucking scary and interesting compared to lvl 0

You forgot the one simply called "The Backrooms Game". I might be wrong but I believe it was one of the very first Backroons games to be made. It's very simple and kinda boring, but I guess since it focused on the isolation and insanity of The Backrooms that was kind of the point. There's also Enter the Backrooms which is another co-op game, but I feel like that game is a generic sort of horror puzzle game that merely uses The Backrooms setting as decoration, and that it could have just been a completely unrelated game.

And sometimes mix in a weird version of partygoers (the funny yellow guys with balloons that came from the wikidot) Like? I personally think the backrooms could work if it focused on the kanepixels version. You're trying to escape the backrooms(Wow) but dealing with monsters + Async. The map isnt infinite but instead teleports you to the other side of map(pacman style). Quests, enemy's, no survival, and random non planned events where your ambushed by the "bacteria" monster.

With weapons in horror, if you do it well, you can make it give you a false sense of hope. SCP Games (The ones that aren't micspamming like SL or old as fuck) often give a false sense of hope with weaponry. Take SCP 5K/Pandemic. Early techdemo basically but it gives a sense of minimised power, but in the end you're alone
