I think the british kitchen pile is tea-bags. it's normal to pile maybe 7 or 8 absolute max in a little pot until you throw them properly in the bin later(so your tea-spoon isn't hovering in bin air), but it looks like they only used that kitchen for tea making and just piled them up forever.

There was a point in my life when I was a younger teen where I had gnats in my room. You are 100% correct about something being wrong, that was the absolute lowest point in my life, and I hope I never get low enough to disregard the cleanliness of my environment again. At the time, my mindset was 'I am filth, why does it matter if I live in filth?' That on top of tackling the mess just seeming like an impossible task, things got bad. I hope anyone reading this who is experiencing anything similar will know that things really can change, as annoying as it is to hear. I'm a very clean person now after realizing that I didn't deserve to live like that.

@atomheartmaddie

Oh for sure, depression most literally slows how our motor skills function in our brains. It's why getting out of bed, using the bathroom and cleaning yourself are such daunting tasks when, in everyday life, you wouldn't think twice about those. A lot of people think it's just all mental, and that you can simply "get over it" or that it's an excuse to be lazy, but in reality, you are *so* focused on the struggle of staying alive to the point that showering and cleaning is not important.

I really like the Mantra "don’t put it down, put it away" for this exact reason. Yes it got popular on the t-site but it actually IS helpful! Every time you’ve got something in your hand and you don’t feel like putting it away? Just remind yourself and say it out loud or just in your head, whatever you like… until you actually HAVE put it away either in the trash or into it’s designated space. Do NOT put it down anywhere else for any reason, make it a little game and even if it is foreign sometimes… it really does improve it and make it better! It’s even a bit fun that way, and at the end of a stressful week you will find that you actually don’t have to tidy that much up since nothing has accumulated and you will not get overwhelmed as easily!
@gamingbytetv665
@gamingbytetv665 Жыл бұрын
@@lenibeni7421True. I’m pretty clean despite depression and anxiety, and I do this with the dishes. Clean it as soon as I use it, and I don’t allow myself to eat until remainder of what I cooked is in tubs ready for the fridge/freezer etc and the pots and pans are cleaned out and put away. It saves so much time in the long run.

Hikkikimori is a type of severe social aversion that more often occurs in Asian countries like Japan and South Korea, usually brought about by societal stress, bullying, family expectations, etc, combined with a collectivist culture that vilifies the family for a child who ends up that way, so parents often hide that child away, rather than stage an intervention or get help for him/her. So I think that showing off their living habits in an attempt to shame them is ill-advised.

Hikikomori is something many young people in Japan suffer from. Not all of them, but the number is astoundingly high. It can also happen to older generations but mainly it's the younger ones. They've usually just given up. They feel like they have nothing to live for and just order items and food to their home to never leave. Many of them even develop genuine fears of the outside world causing them to become much worse and find ways to distract themselves. Usually that involves video games and anime which ends up confining them to one area. Because of this feeling of hopelessness and meaningless, cleaning also seems pointless.

Watching these types of videos gives me some kind of confidence. My apartment can get cluttered quickly for dumbest reasons: there is stuff that needs to be put somewhere, like books or boxes, there are dirty dishes, bills, laundry that needs to be ironed, pens lying around. And yeah, getting thigs in order can really take up a week. I used to think that only people in the lowest of low have "depression nests" or also stop looking after themselves. The truth is it's easy to get stuck in this loop. I don't have a diagnosed depression, but at my lowest point in life I didn't brush my teeth for several days, ordered lots of take-out daily, the trash just piled up because "who cares". So don't be me, clean your place.

'even in the chaos of their life, they have one thing thats consistent, and that's the cola type beverage they like to enjoy.' that kinda hits the mark with many people living like this. they're often going through (or have gone through) some real trauma that's really messing up their head, and you see it manifest in their environment. they find consistent things that make them happy or give them a sense of stability or escape, and choose not to see anything else because they can't face it. i feel so bad for people living like this because i know they get judged harshly and looked down on, when they're just people that don't know how to cope. I've known many, and I've never met one living like this just out of laziness

That last one is just "depression is my personality". That one is on purpose. We had bad fruit flies in our kitchen this year, and it's a miserable experience. Probably a combination of moving garden beds much closer to the house, plus our back patio door being out of whack and having a huge gap, and the dryest year I can recall so they were probably hunting any kind of moisture at all. Any time you'd go to the sink, there would be a cloud of them coming out of the drain. I can't imagine what it's like being in that room.

Having done no research but been through several days, weeks & months of autistic burnout & depression I can say that a depression nest is usually a ring of accumulated items around your bed that you keep for convenience so you don’t have to get up. In my case it was phone charger, remotes, Xbox controllers, medicines & food on my right side, trash pile on my left side & my clean & dirty laundry sorted at the end of my bed.

The unfortunate thing about clutter is it’s so much more difficult when you don’t have much space or any of the fancy organizers. In college I shared a single room 3-way, and my roommates and I weren’t neat freaks but we weren’t slobs either. The room would frequently get fruit fly problems. If you left one cup of juice overnight, and then your other roommate left one the next night and so forth the place becomes a depression nest without much effort. I guess it also had structural damage such as frequent leaks, and some of the people who shared the house with us were stoners so that didn’t help.

Very obviously spaces don’t become like this without some sort of mental or physical illness creating a wall the person hits that stops them from tidying, as someone mentally ill I have low spoons for cleaning due to it being low on the priority list. I’ve found a way to help is a cleaning method I named 15 on 15. You sit and watch a show undistracted, works best with a show in a language you don’t know so you hAve to pay attention to it, set a timer for 15 minutes to watch the show and then when the timer goes off pick up 15 items and put them were they go. And then watch the show for 15 mins and continue.

5:07 for context, "hikkikomori" is a Japanese term which translates to "pull inward," or "be confined," and is also known as "severe social withdrawal"; it refers to both a lifestlye of extreme social isolation and self-confinement and the people who partake in it. We should make a distinction between neckbeard nests and depression dens. Depression dens eventually get cleaned if and when they come out of it or if you got a good friend.

Hihikamori is a term in Japan for usually young people that isolate themselves in their house, completely reliant on their family to live,and basically they are recluses that don't interact with anyone socially,and tend to have messy ,dirty houses....I think I covered it,but a Japanese person might have something else to add

It's normal in England to have like a little ceramic spoon rest next to your kettle that you leave used teabags on. You'd usually pile like maybe 4-5 max on there before throwing them in the bin and washing the spoon rest. It should definitely be emptied and washed at least every 2 days just to prevent fruit flies, anyway. It never occurred to me how weird that would sound to people from other cultures

I'm glad the most clutter in my room are gunpla and I have them on a nice shelf rack. I used to go into houses for a living and I've definitely been in some hoarder houses. It's pretty sad.

Hanging a flag of a politician on one's wall is uncomfortably cultish (regardless of who the politician is)

@jonleibow3604 cool but yk nobody threw h8speech after me when ANYONE ELSE got elected but in 2016 right after mister Donald got into office some dudes told me 'your people won't be around for much longer'. I'm queer. Culty as any people supporting politicians are, none are as devoted as these folks. And they want me dead. So forgive me if I think this is a bit worse than another politician

Yes, neckbeard nests! I love these! And idk, as someone with diagnosed depression and being a huge anime stuff collector, i kind of get it, but at the same time i dont. I get, that you want to escape reality and anime is a good way to do so and you forget everything around you or you just dont care anymore for anything thats not on the screen. But at the same time, i personally knew, i cant get away with this forever and i wanted to improve my situation, so i try to keep my appartment maybe not as tidy as in an ikea catalogue, but at least clean. If i come home to a clean appartment, i feel more at ease as when i come back home to a dump. Its a vicious cycle when you cant force yourself to keep clean. So im just slightly disgusted, but i feel more sorry for these poor people than anything

Unless your carpet is shaggy, you can sweep carpet if you've got a bunch of small things too big for a vacuum! There's a technique to it that I don't know how to explain, but I did this to our carpet while working retail (store sold carpet so they covered some floor with carpet for product to sit on).

Hikikomori is someone who is "lazy", has no social contact, just stays in their room with no contribution to society, doesn't work, doesn't go to school, etc.
@bhvshmah
@bhvshmah Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't use the word lazy in this context. They're like that because they're severely depressed and/or they have social anxiety. A 'lazy' person wouldn't go as far as being a shut-in 24/7 and not contributing to society.

My bedroom, no where near as bad as these used to get pretty icky during my worst bouts of depression. Usually a couple days worth of food dishes and wrappers, dirt and dog fur (i have dogs) all over the ground, full trash, clothes piling over my laundry basket onto the floor and just clutter in general. And then i got a job as a housekeeper and i kid you not i became a clean freak. My room is vaccumed and all my furniture is wiped down a few times a week and my bed is always made, no dishes stay in for more than a couple hours if i do decide to eat in my room. If you struggle to clean maybe you should try housekeeping lol. Getting paid to do it made it easier to do at home. Just felt normal at that point even though i had never been that way before.
