Basically though this is true for any old car that came with a factory turbo at this point, it’s been thrashed by someone that didn’t love it enough. Now it’s time for someone who actually wants to restore it to its former glory and love it correctly. Then again rust isn’t a big issue here

What exactly do you mean by “don’t beat it up”? Like, don’t put a bunch of random mods on a stock EJ-25 like a big ass aftermarket turbo because it will blow up, or don’t push the car and throw it around? Because if it’s the latter, then how are Subarus reliable? I bought an STI because I want to drive hard, throw it around, clear corners fast, make full use of the turbo and AWD. How is it reliable if I can’t do all that in a car that is supposed to be the street version of a rallying legend?

I could say the same about old jeeps because I'm not into cars so much. You buy an old cj or yj just plan on replacing everything. Engine, transmission, transfer case. Bent frames, bent knuckles, and rust. Restoring any car into acceptable condition is a challenge that usually involves costing more than the vehicle. It's a love hate relationship and very likely the people around you will think it's stupid. But some people like myself get the itch to do it anyways. There's something very satisfying about standing back and knowing you built that with your hands. 😊

best thing to learn on would be anything with an ls1. relatively cheap to acquire, information is widely available and is very cost effective to tinker with. worst case scenario you mess up and destroy the engine and you stroll on down to a pick and pull and yoink a donor out for whatever it's weight in scrap is, I've seen them as cheap as $225 and all it needed was a gaskets, which I was going to do anyway.

I’ve rebuilt more Subaru engines than I can remember and you should 100% listen to this guy. It’s very expensive & takes a precision machine shop with an even more complicated specialist machine which most shops don’t have in order to have a reliable high hp turbocharged Subaru. Even the naturally aspirated engines won’t last long without that specialist machine shop.

The hardest ones to modify really are the ones with little to no aftermarket support like my SportTrac (god they need more parts). Easy spacing for swaps or manageable repairs and not dumb mechanical or electrical technology that prevents modifications
@SqubaSquid Жыл бұрын
You already explained the answer. If you take care of a subie it'll last. I have a 2011 STI sedan with the EJ257 and modded it to make 350whp on E85 @90k miles. Here I am at 120k miles, about to replace the motor and go with rotated turbo and FMIC. But I take care of it and I've driven it on E85 for two years. There's nothing wrong with the motor btw, I'm replacing it to make more power as a daily. Have you had a Subie? Daily driven? If not, what you say means nothing. This is coming from a long time Subie owner. The main thing is the maintenance and other mods to increase reliability.
@DUCts927 Жыл бұрын
For my recommendation I think you should buy a Subaru Forrester 2011 to 2014. Here’s why: They can last for over 220,000 miles or 250,000 miles but if you make sure that you keep bringing it to the mechanic shop for maintenance and repair meant it will last for 500,000 miles has great. It has ALL wheel drive system has pretty darn good suspension and it can also fold back the seats in the back which can bring A lot of stuff but here’s some things that you should be aware as of this car Number one is the repair cost is going to be a bit expensive so you have to have a lot of money in the bank account Number two the transmission actually sucks it’s an outdated gearbox, but it’s reliable. So the Subaru Forrester 2011 cost around 8,000 7,000 $ to 12,000 Also, there’s a version of it where it has 220 hp. Yes, you heard me right 220 hp I’m not sure why Subaru put like 220 hp into a boxer engine but I’m OK with that.

He's right. I saw STIs at the track that were modified. The stock car was 300 hp. It's already "modified" from the factory. It was a great car if you leave it alone. Same with the old NSX. Great car but don't try to get more power out of it. Trust me.

The Dodge Charger should be on this list. they get beat to hell and the automatic transmissions are good but only when properly serviced. most anything to do with the engine is a full engine out job on a big ol heavy v8 engine. the power steering is really weird to.

I mean. He is spitting facts. Because most of the subaru projects I've receive from some customers. They have bought it fucking cheap, but always, something is fuck up. If you're not willing to pay for the whole overhaul, or to buy tools to build it yourself. Better save little more money to buy it low mileage and well maintained, because no matter which car. Projects only looks cool, fun, and easy on videos. After that, is a living hell to build and put all together with no imperfections.

An blobeye STI is a good buy if you find one with reasonable mileage, a full service record and a record of previous owners. And if it was never modified. If it is stock from intake to exhaust. No BOV, no tune, nothing. Then you should definitely get one. But be prepared to pay over 20k. Then again, if you can keep it running smoothly and in mint condition, the value will only go up as more and more of them are being blown up by terrible mods and irresponsible owners.

Saying the blobeye specifically makes no sense when the bugeye is the same situation, but older so usually with a few more miles. Got my blobeye wrx wagon from the original owner and still good 3 years later with just general maintenance. The 2.0's are far more reliable than the 2.5's are.
