here, medical school, not only you have to have brain, majoring biology science at high school but also have more more money than average. not only that, even if you get through it, unless you have "channel". its pretty hard to get job on big place.

Guys. No, they don't need to appease the foreign market. The problem is with their movies and dramas they are trying too hard to appease the foreign market. Capitalise in Chinese culture and the intricacies. You have what is probably one of richest cultural histories in the world and the amount of stories that you can incorporate is huge. There is no drought of talent in China they just need to strike with the right script. Use what is there!

As a non-Chinese speaking foreigner, I find both Chinese and Korean drama to be infinitely more original and innovative than many other countries. I cannot imagine a drama made in the west as engrossing as Nirvana in Fire, Love me if you dare, and the myriad films and dramas that come out from both countries. I don't care about sub-titles, I learnt reading them from an early age, as I had a mother interested in foreign film. Often I become so engrossed in a drama that I am virtually unaware that there are subtitles. I would be horrified if China or Korea changed to 'appease' a foreign market. How bland and uninteresting for all non-Chinese speakers.

For me an overseas Chinese, I found voice dubbing annoying when you have watched their interviews where voice is part of personality. Gets worse when dubber’s voice doesn’t match the role. Arrghh how do I explain? In the Untamed XZ and LZ had a good voice dubbers pretty matching. Problem with CDrama is nothing new, same actors, same expressions, same bad kiss scenes, just not engaging.

@@killiansirishbeer Exactly in my country there are so many dialects and languages like the people of each area speak so differently which I, as a native can't understand any of the words used sometimes. But for series the actors speak the standard language so others can understand perfectly.

Cdrama industry has very little incentive to expand to foreign markets, which is part of the problem. Unlike smaller countries like Korea, Chinese domestic market is the main source of their earnings. Because of cultural/language barriers most Chinese only watch Chinese dramas, especially after the Hallyu ban. As a result, cdramas don't need to compete internationally. It's not like hardware products such as cell phones where Chinese brands have to compete with Apple and Samsung domestically and internationally. My only hope is in Chinese Animation. It will likely be the first C-ent industry to reach top-notch international standard because they have to compete with animation works from Japan and America. Plus, idols are not the main selling point as in cdramas. A bad script in animation will not sell.

let me just add to the rant as an international fan when you start watching cdrama you may not be able to point out what she is talking about or it may not click 100% but after you watch a mix of good and bad drama about 40 of them you will see it clearly what she is talking about it will be as if she talking about things you've noticed caused you've watched so many good and bad you will be able to separate them easily and 1 thing I absolutely hate is REALLY GOOD ACTOR PUTTING OUT REALLY BAD PROJECT. it like pouring hot water on your leg yes that actor and actress are paid but it will affect their popularity in the long run

The thing that these dramas fall short of is the writing. They have excellent cinematography and the casting is usually on the mark but the writing is full of tropes, unoriginal dialogue and poor character development. This then affects the pacing and the interactions between the characters feels mechanic and not organic.

I agree, there were a lot of horrible dramas either with horrible actors or horrible script! But so many dramas came out this year that some dramas that were good became underrated while some crappy dramas got more popular because the actors was famous and got more promotions. I don't like it when they keep promoting a drama that is really crappy making it seem like it's a good drama to watch! You should also make a video about the drama awards show too!

Okay. the blooms at ruyi pavilion was actually good to me until it keeps dragging on and on. The female lead's acting is not that good but dang....duke su is handsome and I liked them both in Legend of Yunxi. The story doesn't make sense because they were supposed to dream about the future, but why and how? I'm on episode 28 and I don't even want to go on. Also, it has a good closure to Legend of Yunxi because in episode 10 it explains that the 2 lead's lived a happy life. Well. I'm content at least.

The dreams the FL had were mostly deleted from the drama because of some issues regarding airing scenes that talk about predicting the future or something like that. I read that they had no choice but to delete the dream scenes due to censorship. If you want to watch some of the deleted scenes, just search it here on KZbin. It's a pity they didn't include those scenes because it would have made the viewers understand the plot of the drama more. But anyway, I actually loved the drama.

I don't think it is right to generalize LOF and claim it is a "bad drama" before getting at least far enough to have the plot pick up. A lot of shows improve over time, and hopefully thats the case with LOF.

As for the male lead, his voice doesn't match him either. The whole audio is off and they all sound bad. China needs to stop dubbing. That shit is annoying. Honestly, lof looks like a cheap drama that was most likely expensive to film because zly is an overpriced actress and wyb probably charged more than what he deserves simply because he became famous for selling sugar. Before you attack me, I'm not Yibo anti. I just want a good drama, which lof isn't. The CG is so crappy.

Honestly, I've given up on Cdramas starting...maybe, 5-6 years ago? Things nowadays are just MONOTONOUS--same script, same storylines, same periodic dramas, same tropes about an innocent girl being saved by the man, VOICE DUBBING that continues to run even more rampant... Nothing is original and the quality of acting, production, and CGI is just disappointing at best. I used to LOVE wuxia dramas (I literally grew up with the classics and learned/preserved a lot of my Chinese language and culture through them), but now they're so frankly stupid: the romance is awful, the story is a mess and unoriginal, and the martial arts are fake and so heavily reliant on CGI that it's a crime--not to mention that the CGI itself is AWFUL.

The deer and the Cauldron was, still is, one of my favorite stories/drama in my childhood. I watch Dicky Cheung's, Huang Xiaoming and the movie with Stephen Chow, all wonderful for me. This 2020 adaptation was so horrible, literally, you can tell by just watching the first episode. How much content they skipped, how much character background they ignored and how inexcusable they built Wei Xiao Bao's character. They also focused so much on the princess to appeal to single partner relationship when half the story is how he meets and marries his wives. Such a great story and here they are, with beautiful girls and a pretty good actor; just messing it all up.

I think the point of this Blooms is to give audiences a good closure for their OTP from Legend of Yunxi. The story itself doesnt make sense, what they called dreaming about futures (arent well executed, I dont understand what its all about), especially the main villains. If he was so smart, why didnt he investigate cleary about his mother death?, also the so called legendary Ruyilo , an organization that was so popular and lasted for so long time, the master died just like that.....I really dont get it. I actually watched it until eps 32 (with fast forward clicking) just to see some sweet moments between the main couple and the second couple

The Bloom of Ruyi's Pavilion is the drama that wasted my time the most this year. I watched it because of the main cast (esp Xu Jiaqi). I loved the supporting couple's storyline, the main actor was ok for me (I will watch him act in his upcoming BL drama with Gong Jun). But the main actress's acting was so bad (XJQ's acting was no better but her character building was ok to watch), I mean her acting had no improvement since her previous works, while her character building here was so annoying, insane and stupid. OK I've watched so many dramas with stupid heroines, I can put up with this, but the thing that caused damage to my brain and heart was the ending of the super handsome supporting male lead aka the main villain: His existence was totally null, everything he schemed and traded for was for nothing, meaningless as it turned him into a miserable and foolish psychopath :)

I myself don't think its the right thing to do since I believe ignoring Xiao Zhan because of what fans or anti fans say means that you're only supporting this kind of trend. I feel like people need to rise above the problem, show their stance and stand with what is right rather than running away from the problem. And the fact is that Xiao has never done anything wrong and doesn't deserve to be ignored. However I would not say Avenue x is a hater, she has her own opinions and has made a choice and we as Xiaofeixia must respect it, especially now when everything we do is linked with Xiao Zhan.

I recommend you this drama because i really think its worth to watch, not because of the popularity of the drama or the actors, but because of the plot itself. Of all that you list in the video, the only drama that I watched was Ruyi Pavillion. The drama got bad script but somehow I manage to finished it. Perhaps I just got time to watch it and had the patience and tolerence to endure 40 episode of bad script.

My Sweet Liar", "Light on Series: Sisyphus", " The Sleepless Princess" (I like both main leads, but this drama was a huge disappointment - I stopped watching after 8 episode), "For Married Doctress", "You are my destiny" (I gave up after 2 episode), "Forgetting you, remembering love" (that was terrible), "Novoland: The Castle in the Sky 2" (I really liked 1st season and they gave me this crap) and "Princess at large" 1st and 2nd seasons.

@@hienngo4763 Where should I start...? Firstly, the main actors weren`t convincing in their acting. Usually, I get immersed in the story to the point of forgetting it`s unreal. In other words, I forget that certain actors act as certain characters. As long as I watch good drama, I treat actors as they`re the characters they play until the drama ends. However, it didn`t happen in the "Professional single". Secondly, there was no chemistry between them, no matter what other people say. Thirdly, Aaron Deng portrayed a toxic character, Qin Shen, who was obsessed with possessing Yuan Qiang and not allowing any guy (her best friend from childhood) near her. Excuse me?! That was annoying and really childish. His jealousy was all over the place. The fourth argument is simple: wrong casting. There were exceptions, like e.g Runze Wang, but Hong Shan Shan was a terrible choice. That girl showed only two expressions throughout the series. Nobody in their right mind would call it acting. I think if another girl was chosen as the main lead, then it would be better. I watched another 2 dramas with Ireine Song and she was actually good there.

Pretty much agree especially with Xiao Chuo and Ruyi thing. I was wondering if The Wolf was also going to be on this list. I'm thinking the drama is tedious. Long winded script and although people say the acting is good, for me it's all very overdone. They seem to like explaining things a lot. I lost interest I'm afraid.

Kinda disappointed with the wolf. I describe the wolf as "49 episode with Darren Wang". I like seeing his character get ridiculously strong and suddenly so tragic but 49 episodes is totally overdone for the plot. Personally, worth for seeing Darren Wang.

He shines because his character is the good people in this drama but I am not particularly think his acting is the highlights, it's more on the character. It reminds me of his acting in Joy of Life, minus the torture. I haven't read much in the wolf comments section but I did see comment about how bad Bo Wang act because he is mean and how good XZ because he is nice, which is a weird summary for why XZ is better.

You have quite a creative style of delivering critiques...love it! I'm a Chinese Costume Drama "newbie" but within the last 2 months have viewed 10 productions -- yes, I'm HOOKED big time. None made it to your "2020 Worst" list -- whew! ALL HAVE BEEN FANTABULOUS -- in my opinion. Currently, I'm watching "Qin Dynasty Epic - 2020"....wooooo weeeee! All episodes have not yet been released, but from what's been aired so far, talk about a GREAT story line, cast, wardrobe, scenery, production, etc...it's got it all. I know, I know...I only have 10 programs under my belt so far...but that's why I can't wait to see how your evaluation of Qin Dynasty 2020 compares with my newbie view. :-) :-)
