Hey it's Danny, LegalEagles editor, the highlighter thief. Thanks for covering this, it's crazy this got so much attention. For anyone wondering, the LegalEagle beef is squashed, so it's good the focus is shifting more to the parasocial stuff (btw I still don't know the plug-in. Not the highlighter, the one i was asking about in the email)

Agreed. If she just said something to the effect of, “Yeah, I messed up. What LegalEagle did wasn’t plagiarism. I didn’t realize the editing my editors did was so common. I should have reached out privately to gain more understanding instead of making an open post.” Really, if she hadn’t let her ego get in the way, she wouldn’t be getting publicly annihilated right now. Hopefully her claim of being able to retire is true. But her track record shows her claims are baseless. Lol

I wish he would have really covered wonder's response! He brought in OZ (who actually took that picture of the room a year after wonder moved out). Also discussed the car which had an appointment with the mechanic and the video of the rock smacking the window. AND that she stole the car not from Texas with the police, but in the dead of night at his father's house in Colorado where it was supposed to be with all of his computer and video gear. I would have liked him covering CWHM too, illuminaughtii plagerized her then threatened legal action and copyright strikes when Cruel world happy mind put out a video about it.

Unfortunately, this means she's smart. This is the exact way one should approach such situation: Admit nothing, acknowledge nothing, and eventually people will get bored with the drama, new videos will stop being made about her, because well, no one will watch them, and after few months to few years it will just blow over and aside of few people, everyone will forget it or won't know the situation in the first place, because youtube will stop recommending those old drama vids. If she'd respond in any way, she'd just invoke Streissand effect and all but ensure her demise. This is the main thing that differentiates her from CreepShowArt. Shannon was an idiot, Blair doesn't seem to be one (though both are b-words).

Par for the course for video essays. Once you realize it’s a “video essay” and that all an essay is, is someone’s thesis opinion about any given subject, it immediately becomes clear that they are like 99% of academia: mired in, and entranced by, their own high-fialeutin, dung fumes while either parroting the popular opinion or being needlessly contrarian. @mistermuse9543
@mistermuse9543 Жыл бұрын
yeah, thing is that is the best way to handle internet drama if you want minimal impact from it; ignore it and do not engage. if you engage and start making videos on the subject, then that will make more and more of your audience aware of it and want to look into it, as well as give other people more and more ammunition to reply to and make more content about, drawing even more attention overall. so just ignoring it and posting as normal is indeed the best way to minimize damage and give yourself the best chance of smoothly recovering and carrying on. if you think about pretty much any other internet drama, a lot of the material people can tear apart comes from the subject replying. if they don't, it's much harder to keep the steam going.

That’s actually the right thing to do in these kinds of situations, regardless whether you actually did something wrong or not. I dropped off watching Blair’s channel a little over a year ago now because of a lot of little quality issues and things that (now) seemed like red flags. Lots of factual errors that even I, someone who didn’t actively research her topics myself, knew were incorrect. Having a clear bias that affected how she presented the information in her videos, picking and choosing known nuanced details to play a side as opposed to presenting everything as fact before providing personal opinion. But the straw that broke the camel’s back for me was when some commenter or someone in her DMs said something she really didn’t like and she basically doxxed them. Shared a screenshot with their channel name and profile picture visible, and maybe their actual name if I remember correctly, idk anymore. Not only was it a problem she did that, but that when people called her out for it she first just hand waved it before deleting it and hoping it would go away before finally issuing a lukewarm apology. I decided then that someone who falls into the same traps she makes jokes towards big companies over wasn’t someone I wanted to watch. Especially since the quality was iffy to begin with.

With behavior like this, and such a rich history of it, she never became anything she wasn't. It was at most covering up her truly awful character. This type of person is the kind we see commit crimes, and smile about them when confronted in a court of law. The way she's manipulating everyone against each other reeks of narcissistic personality disorder, and when couple with anti social behavior, I don't think she's a far cry from a legitimate sociopath, especially how lopsided and skewed her view of responsibility and guilt shines through. It's like she doesn't even actually know what are the important claims made about her, and tries to tackle something she thinks is more important but ends up shooting way besides the point. If there's something to count your blessings on, then it's the fact that while this type of person is extremely adept at manipulating you 1 on 1 and in private settings and messages, once the messages get exposed to the world, everyone instantly can just feel how the tone translates in her messages and can accurately point out how manipulative they're being.

I stopped really paying attention to her after the first drama that came up about her, when she actively cyberbullied an artist for drawing her character in a one-piece swimsuit, claiming it was sexualizing and defamatory towards her character or something like that. Meanwhile, in multiple videos in sad milk and her own past videos, she openly shows an image of her character in a two-piece bikini playing with the other sad milk creators at the beach, entirely being hypocritical to her previous statements. I'm not surprised by this outcome honestly.

What did it for me was her video on WWE in which she clearly did almost no research into certain elements of the story, like the CTE lawsuit that was thrown out of court not because of vince's wife having "connections" to the trump administration but rather because a federal judge threw it out for lack of cause. This happened because none of the plaintiff's could prove that they hadn't suffered their injuries while working for any of the 20+ independent NWA (National Wrestling Alliance) territories that existed back when pretty much all of them broke into the business in the 70's and early 80's, and that just because WWE owns the tape libraries and copyright's too various long dead NWA territories doesn't mean that they assumed any potential legal liabilities the companies may have incurred had they still existed as anything more than a drawer in a filing cabinet in the filing room at titan towers. Then there was the whole steroid trial situation too where she cited testimony from various ex-talents who had ax's to grind against the company for various reasons, with the two most obvious ones being Big John Studd and Nailz (Kevin Washolz). Big John Studd spent his entire career in WWF being extremely envious of how andre the giant was treated by fans, the boys (other wrestlers) and the office, he was jealous of how andre was treated like "the greatest giant of them all" by vinny mac and he was so desperate to one up andre that a bitter rivalry sparked between them behind the scenes which was entierly caused by the horrible things studd did to andre backstage. When they had their $15.000 Slam Match at mania 2 things were so heated between them that a second referee was assigned to the match to ensure that it didn't become a shoot (legit) fight because andre could've easily killed studd in the ring if he'd really wanted too, after that he was given the option of being fired or quitting so he quit and went home where he formulated a plan to finally one up andre once and for all. This plan involved him illegally attaining massive amounts of human growth hormone and steroids then severely abusing them so that he could "become a true giant" and best andre once and for all, when he came back to WWF in the winter of '88 he'd grown from 6'10 1/2" too just under 7'3"and had put on a good 150 pounds of muscle mass, the plan failed miserably because he had made himself almost completely immobile in the ring and he was tossed out on his ass after his appearance as a special guest referee mania V. After that happened he spent the rest of his life being vindictive bitter and angry at how he'd been treated by WWF because he truly believed that he should've been in the main event picture when he was a lower mid carder at best, and when he testified at the trial vince's lawyers completely tore him apart on cross examination and got him to admit that he'd attained the hgh/roids that he'd used during the disputed period (after he was fired in '87-before he returned in '88) though other sources not linked to vince or wwf. As for nailz: he was a curtain jerker everywhere he went who only got hired by WWF in the summer of '91 because they were desperate for talent even if they were little more than glorified enhancement guys (which nailz was). He was immediately put in a feud with the big boss man which consisted of a beatdown that put boss man out of action for a few months followed by an embracing squash match at survivior series '91 in which boss man jobbed him out in under five minutes, then he was put in a feud with undertaker which also ended in a squash match at survivor series '92. Washolz would later claim that taker got "$100.000" for the match while he got a "pitiful $5000" (taker has said that he only got about $10k for the match because it wasn't a featured bout on the card that night) and when he finally decided to confront vince about the "bad payoff" he physically attacked vince and tried to kill him, then after they were separated he called the cops and tried to accuse vince of sa'ing him. After all of this happened he went back to the AWA which imploded a few months later, then he tried to get a job with WCW and when he didn't he called up head booker ric flair during a creative meeting and screamed at him over speakerphone (with about 15 other people watching it happen) for 35 minutes about needing a job and demanded that flair fire someone immediately and give him a spot. When he testified during the trial vince's lawyers got him to completely immolate himself on the stand by asking a simple question: "You don't like vince very much do you?' To which he responded: "no, I hate him".

That reminds me of the game "alone in the woods" (a game about a cartoon cat and her friends going through adulthood in case you can't remember from the title alone). The lead programmer and director and, well he was most of the game since its just an indie game, was working alongside Zoe Quinn (a famously failed indie developer who has a suspiciously high amount of industry connections) who befriended him to join the development. During that time she learned of his suicidal thoughts and a lot of his personal issues due to their time together (this part is corroborated by the developer's sister). So after the game releases, she claims that he was toxic and horrible and abusive, and convinced all his friends and acquaintances in the industry to betray him and not stand up for him, despite a mountain of evidence that she was lying (and potentially the actual abuser). The developer's sister even stood up for him (the only one with the guts to do so) claiming that she knows for a fact it's all lies and had the receipts to prove it. However, the social ostracization that he was subject to, and the fact that everyone but his sister betrayed him in the most personal ways possible, caused him to commit to the act of ending himself. And its only then after that happens that Zoe Quinn stopped her daily attacks against him online. Instead, the moment he died, she stopped acting like he ever existed, and instead just started promoting all her stuff like Patreon and her Kickstarters (that would never be completed, despite how many people's money she would take from it) while acting like that whole situation never happened. Not even a "I didn't know he would do that!" or "I just wanted justice, I didn't mean for it to go this far!", nope just going on like nothing happened while trying to scam more money out of people. So the developer who made his dream game, never got to enjoy its surprising success, because of what she did, and was so tortured that he resorted to what he did despite having made great strides to find the courage to keep living and stop feeling suicidal. While Zoe would go on to ruin more things in a variety of genres in a high position she has no right to be in, due to her industry connections, while the guy gets no justice for what she did to him. Oh, and by the way... THE SEQUEL WAS JUST ANNOUNCED. Sure is convenient that this game no longer has its original creator, and all that's left is Zoe Quinn (A famously terrible, failed indie developer on her previous games) to helm a now successful series.

Then rob the child of the computer that is their livelihood when illegally and without warning stealing (repossessing) their car a week before their paid month is up. Definitely don't ignore legal petitions to return the stolen property then throw away the high end PC, mic, camera etc needed for the 18/19 year old's work. Maybe don't mock their sui*idal ideation? This was not friendship. This was isolating and creating dependency in a person not old enough to vape or have a beer. The argument that she used dual ellipses just boils my blood every time I hear her mention it in these vids. Dual Ellipses means that there is more to the quote that may change the context of the full quote. It means that the person is not using a complete sentence. It NEVER means that the person is quoting more of a quote that isn't visual. If Blair had tried to pull that argument on a collegiate paper, she'd still have a zero for plagiarism.

As a person who's getting a graduate in english, creative writing... I'm not so sure she quoted entirely wrong? As the video said, it was a correct quotation. @@CG-wl3cq That's just it. "If". She doesn't. She instead spends most of the direct quote speaking without a single indication that those words were not her own and only seems to show that the part on screen was the direct quote. That is plagiarism. Yes, she could have used a signal phrase before the block quote, but she didn't, and that's the issue. Its not that she wasn't clear enough, she simply did not take any actions to indicate that a large portion of what she was saying outside the on-screen quote was also part of the quote. If we are to believe her statement about the double ellipses, then she did make an effort. However, the effort made was a significantly flawed one that I'm not really comfortable with an essayist like herself making and not owning up to.
@keyblade419
@keyblade419 Жыл бұрын
@@TerrariaGolem As you know, when using a block quote word for word, the entire quote should be enclosed within quotation marks and attribution should include the source and location within said source. The fact that a large portion of the quote was read off of the script without any indication that it, too, was part of the quote is the issue here. If we were to take what she did and return it to an essay on paper, this would be the equivalent of having an entire paragraph be a block quote, but only putting a small portion of it within the quotation marks. It feels, to me at least, like she tried to pass off the rest of the paragraph as a paraphrasing/rewording and then put the attribution at the end of the paragraph. This is why I personally prefer that anytime something is being quoted word for word, the source attribution should be on screen of the video. It removes any doubt that what the person is saying is a direct quote, and not their own work.

@@TerrariaGolem I'm just an illiterate STEMcel, but her citation is unambiguously wrong imo. The first major problem is that she is quoting an entire documentary segment and only puts about 5 words of it in quotes. She does this to let you assume that the rest of the words are her own. The other major problem is that she doesn't even cite the source she's quoting on the screen. She attributes the source to "lawsuit with FDA". The natural assumption is that these 5 words she's quoting are something the FDA said about the doctor in a lawsuit. She' quoting a secondary source, but she misattributes the quote to a primary source. I've felt this way for years now, but this whole "I'm going to assassinate your character because your humor from 10+ years ago is no longer socially acceptable in my opinion" thing is terrible in every instance I've seen of it. Internet humor back then was obviously incredibly different than it is today, but it would be different if there were a handful of fringe people that were involved and participated, but no, literally everyone was on the same internet with the same jokes back then. Pretending to be morally right with the benefit of hindsight is wrong in itself, but attempting to punish someone now for choices they made over a decade ago and likely as a minor is just disgusting.

I knew the second she tried to explain her mistakes away while already having admitted to making them, that she was a narcissist whose actions only boil down to her seeing ghosts and completely overreacting, and then doubling down when she realised she had overreacted. And I was 4 minutes into that 1 hour long train wreck of an apology video. I closed it because I couldn’t handle her “I’m sorry I did this” while not sounding apologetic at all at any point in those 4 minutes. The world isn’t to get you Blair, they just want to see you get the consequences of your actions

This hits pretty hard for me, a regular viewer of her content. She had lots of valuable information in her content, and now I'll never be able to enjoy it like I used to anymore because she turned out just as sus as the people and organizations she made a career out of by calling out. It's for reasons like this that I try avoiding too much of an emotional attachment to anyone I subscribe to. Any one of the people we watch on a daily basis may just be a machiavelian psychopath, sociopath or narcissist behind the scenes. No wonder why they say you should never meet your idols. Personally, I believe in not having any form of idols in the first place, and things like this just further validate that idea.

May want to really consider this in a broader context too. It appears that most of the people involved, were true believers. They were eager to expose injustices and they were loyal to Blaire as a leader. These are decent people, who have now admitted that they assisted Blaire in some of these despicable attacks. This is exactly how political and policing scandals operate. Decent people end up being corrupted, because they believe their cause is righteous. People who would never dream of harming the innocent, suddenly find themselves doing just that. All in the name of protecting the leader of a cause that they believe in. And that's the best case scenario. Sometimes, there are just garbage people, who are eager to backstab others if it benefits them. Tbh, this chick reminds a lot of Trump. A completely immoral person that engages in extreme morality policing.

But one day I accidentally watched one of her VODs and something was off, she was judging random people on the internet and it was such a far cry from how she usually sounds like the person who thinks before she speaks, I don't know how to explain it, but she sounded like a spoiled young adult who laughed at other people for money - she was petty and shallow, which is not what I assumed from the regular videos she makes.
