When I left the US over 20 years ago I was not thinking of money. I wanted a big change in my life and I went for it. What's important for me when moving to another country is how are the people, what are the social situations like, is it safe, good health care, good food, etc, etc? The first country I moved to was Ireland. I live in Ireland for 4 years. Loved it! Found a job in 3 days. Which was great as I had about 1500 euros on me. Four years later I fell in love and moved to france, beem here ever since. Totally different life and couldn't live any other way. Important: Try and learn the language, don't expect the adopted country to know yours, besides the natives will like and respect you for it.

As someone from the UK. Do not come... Over the next 20 years, we're going to have a brain drain as people leave. GDP per capita hasn't shifted since 2008, we're unproductive and lose most of our good/high tech business to other countries, a lot of business can't operate here due to taxes and regulation / speech laws. To fix this they're trying to radically change the demographics, leading to insane house prices, falling public services and cultral changes, instead of actually addressing the issue. They're essientally running a ponzi scheme, requiring more and more each year. If you're a talented indivual that is high skilled or an entrepreneur the UK is one of the worst places to operate, it is setup for only extremely wealthy and established companies who want cheap labour.

I moved to Canada 35 years ago from the U.S. and have been very happy here. I just wanted to note that over 23% of Canada's population comes from somewhere else, so they aren't anti-immigrant. They're just putting some brakes on right now to deal with some growth issues and housing struggles. Canada's population overall is small (smaller than California's), there's a lot of the country that geographically is difficult to develop, and "just building more housing" isn't as easy as it sounds. But I've always found Canadians friendly and welcoming, and there are a lot of available services to help new immigrants get settled and connected. And no matter where you come from, you will find others here who speak your language.
@PetulaGuimaraes29 күн бұрын
Same here. I came to Canada 15 years ago and never regretted. I think people need to be careful when simply thinking they can immigrate anywhere though. @Therabbitmaze-v2j29 күн бұрын

Ireland's problem in the next 20 years is how to grow from 5M ppl to 6 or 7M . The infrastructure isn't there for that. And, there's an I built resistance to new building and new rail lines. Whether the UK is rising or sinking depends on where in the system you are located. If you are a lord, then you are much worse off than your Victorian ancestors. If you are a worker, you're far better off than them. At the height of the British Empire the bulk of the people lived in poverty. Many countries have tried to regain past glories. That's the "again" in the MAGA slogan. Mussolini tried, and failed spectacularly. The Spaniards got over it a while ago. The Mongols are not bothering to conquer the world at all now. The "American century" was the 20th. Now we are in the 21st. The only way for the USA is down, but whether that's good or bad depends on whether you are a robber baron or not.

If you want a quick out with zero red tape, go to Tbilisi, Georgia, where Americans can stay for 365 days. Then, after your 364th day, you can take a short trip to Yerevan, Armenia, and return next day to Georgia, doing so ad infinitum. Cost of living is much less than most states in the USA and certainly less than in Canada. More expensive than Mexico; but in Tbilisi, there are no drug cartels and the crime rate is low. Yerevan is even cheaper but you can stay just six months before needing to do a visa run. You can also get by much better with English in Tbilisi than with English in Yerevan. You can also open a bank account without waiting in Georgia but you have to have six month's residency to do in Armenia.

Something not being brought up is the effects of the proposed tariffs and mass deportation coming to America. Seems like that all will really harm the economy and cause terrible inflation. Unless you've lived in Australia then you can't really give advice on Australia for it's like no where else in the world. Politics in Australia is a taboo subject and no one wants to know or even cares who you vote for. If you want to make enemies in Australia then start talking to Australians about who they should vote for. Universal healthcare in Australia is consistently ranked as one of the best in the world. Take the pandemic and in Europe Germany's universal healthcare performed the best of all the European countries and it still wasn't that great and Germany's healthcare is similar to Australia's. Pay rates in Australia are higher than the USA and no you don't have to be academically gifted to attain high pay rates for the mining sector pays very high rates of pay and the miners aren't academically gifted just hard working. A lot of mining work is FIFO. Paid time off is very important to all Australians for we have the opposite work ethic to Americans for they live to work whereas we work to live. We're far more relaxed and enjoy life more. If you live within your means in Australia then you can survive but if you're a spending person then you'll soon go broke and find life very hard. Many Australians want the new house in the new suburb only to find they can't afford it but other Australians buy an older run down place and do it up and they can afford it. These affordable places are found outside metropolitan areas.

While the taxation system could be better there's no huge schism between the wealthiest and those who are less well off like there is in the land of the free. I left the UK to move to Canada 30+ years ago, I had a job and work visa and eventually decided to stay and got my permanent residency. I live in Alberta and I’ve also lived in Saskatchewan. Yes we do have cold winters, like much of the USA, and we have hot summers like much of the USA. Moving to Canada will depend on if you have a job to come to, which province you choose, and that makes a difference. What kind of climate do you want? East coast, New Brunswick, Quebec and Ontario get much the same weather as New York, Massachusetts etc, Manitoba, Saskatchewan are similar in climate to the mid west states and Alberta is warm in spring and summer and cooler fall and cold in winter with chinooks to break the cold, BC you get a mix with mountain climates to the east of the province and temperate rainforest to the west of the mountains. There’s vast differences in tax and income and expenses as well. For me Alberta offers safety and security good healthcare for the most part, decent rent and the best views ever. If Americans are thinking of Canada do it the right way, job offer, work visa, follow the rules and be intentional and do your research. It’s not all about politics all the time, it’s about a way of life that suits you and will fulfill your life. I hope that helps a bit.

I am a UK resident - let me correct you on one thing - the government has not been raising taxes on petrol (fuel duty). As for the healthcare system,yes,it has problems but on most measures is still one of the best in the world. Housing costs outside of London and SE England are generally not bad. In the Netherlands for instance, you might talk in English to a shopkeeper, a taxi driver and to almost everybody in the street.
