It was a small town of course but they would go grocery shopping at the regular grocery store and I used to hang around them with pink hair and the most they had to say were face value observations or a generally positive reception. Having accidentally joined a cult... I gotta say, it's possible. A lot of social groups, workplaces etc have very cult-ish aspects to them. I was approached in uni and invited to a cultural exchange meeting (it was a Korean cult, the "Moonies") - it was lots of fun, everyone was very friendly and I had no idea that the young cool people offering language classes were missionaries. They had these lectures we had to sit through to participate in their activities and it was only when those began that we were faced with the religious aspect. There are plenty of organizations, movements, etc that just make you feel super included, surrounded by friendly people and engaged in fun activities so you start to distance from your friends and family, spend more and more time with them and eventually start to accept their way of thinking. There are way more cults than just the religious ones and tbh very rarely people set out to join a cult on purpose.

So I’m in the middle of the video right now, on the part where Jake is talking about the traumatizing experience of having to pair up with the teacher in class, and it reminded me of a story from when I was in 8th grade. I was in English class with 3 people who I thought were my friends, and we had to pair up with someone to read a book with and talk to each other about, and the teacher said that there could only be a maximum of 3 people to a group. So two of my friends paired up, and the third decided to join them, even though she had admitted that she had already read that book. I tried to ask one of my friends to pair up with me since there were 3 people in their group and I was alone, and no one would. So I asked the other person without a partner in class (who I wasn’t close enough to be friends with, but we were friendly with each other) if they would pair up with me, and they said no. They chose going solo on a project that you were supposed to pair up with someone on over working with me. So at that point I felt terrible and like what my anxiety told me about none of my friends actually liking me was true, and started crying. I had to do that project on my own, which was stupid because the whole point was to talk to someone about the book. Also, I haven’t watched the whole thing yet, but both of you are very funny in it so far, and I’m going to subscribe to Annamarie after this because of this video. Even my mom, who’s in the same room as me, is laughing at both of your jokes, and she has said multiple times to me that she doesn’t like commentary KZbinrs because they’re too “ranty”.

Talking about the hunting and fishing stuff, it's such a weirdly nuanced topic from my perspective as someone interested taxidermy I have 8 billion criteria for someone posing with a dead animal to NOT be a red flag. Is it sourced ethically? Like being roadkill, scavenged, donated from a zoo or animal sanctuary and preserved professionally. If it was hunted, was there a specific reason? Like there are cases where people are encouraged to hunt certain animals if they're invasive or their population was rising too rapidly. And then of course people who hunt specifically for food (in an ethical manner, once again). But all that being said, cishet guys posing with a fish to seem more masculine is ALWAYS a red flag
@Cr0ut0n2 жыл бұрын

My answer to what I'd not want to see on a profile would be: anything that gives a suggestion of aggression or threat. For instance, guns. Guns in photos are supposed to show they're a threat because they can do lasting damage with minimal effort. Knives and swords can be included in this unless it's part of a theme or costume, such as cooking theme or part of a cosplay. Dead animals. Especially personally hunted animals, for somewhat the same reason. I don't like it when the cats leave presents, and I don't like it when guys think they can do the same. Like yes, you caught the deer, and I'm glad you put it out of its misery instead of just batting it around, but unless I see you eat it I'm going to assume you did it for the thrill of the kill and will have to use my squirt bottle on you next time I see you with a gun. Fish photos make me think that that's the only aspect of their life they find interesting enough to talk about. I might just have bias because most men I know who would or have fish photos as their dating photos or even just around the house are the ones who argue with their so and then go spend the rest of the day on the water drinking and fishing.
@BonseyJonsey2 жыл бұрын
@@catelynh1020 I guess I can see that, but I see the type of taxidermy, if someone features it, as a really good way to tell their character For example, seeing someone with a wet specimen could indicate they're interested in science especially if the specimen is diaphonized (which basically means a specimen is made transparent and the bones and cartilage are dyed). Seeing someone with preserved insects and butterflies can indicate a lot of different but mostly a general interest in entomology. Someone with assorted bones without any completed pieces can indicate the bones were found or bought individually which helps to rule out hunting. It's also VERY helpful if someone mentions "vulture culture" as that's an online community that values ethical taxidermy. Fully taxidermied animals preserving the fur can be tricky, so it can be important to examine the entirety of the profile. It's pretty easy to tell if someone is a redneck or avid hunter from context clues from their profile, bio, and conversation; but in my opinion, mounted heads are ALWAYS a red flag. Compare that to someone with taxidermy that's lovingly crafted where the animal is put in a natural or peaceful position. That more indicates a respect and love for the animal, preserving it as it was rather that displaying it as a trophy for killing and points to the animal dying of natural causes. None of this is to discredit your perspective or change your mind, it's important to value your safety when it comes to meeting strangers and if taxidermy makes you feel unsafe that's absolutely fine. People can be weirdos on the internet and I can't judge anyone's personal red flags, unless they're based on bigotry. I'm more trying to share my personal perspective as someone who's very into and appreciative of taxidermy. Have a good day/afternoon/night! :)
