I lived there for a year. I'd say it's not overt racism, but they are definitely monocultured and stick with each other. They are not very talkative, and it's hard to make friends with them. Otherwise, I pretty much stuck to the international student group and was happy most of the time. They pretty much just ignore you, but you are free to live your life. I also read blogs from refugees who live there - mainly Somalians and Nigerians. Their main complaint was cracking the job market, which is nearly impossible outside of IT... I did my time there but am not fond of going back ever...

This SHOCKED me. My sister in law is Finnish. I’ve been to Finland a few times as well. I have two Finnish nephews . The whole extended family has always been very warm and genuine . I even have a friend from there . Her family was always amazing to me . I do recognize that I am clearly in a bubble of people that just are not like that. I’ve heard whispers of this issue from white family members. I think because they are good people they’re embarrassed by this nasty behaviour and have shielded me from it. I’ll stay vigilant my Brothers and sisters.

You obviously never visited Ukraine or Poland. I visited Ukraine at least 20 times within 2 years before the war and was treated like a movie star everywhere I went. I have been to Poland more than 30 times in the last 3 years. Everyone treats me very well and I get lots of compliments even from men too on my suits and coats. If people don't like and respect you, it is probably not because you are black. It is all about perceived status, not skin colour.

On the 24.12.24. Me and three other friends went to a disco here in Germany, four of us are from different parts of Africa and four of us are German passport holders. On arriving at the disco, the security at the entrance refused us of going inside the disco. What is the reason? Due to the colour of our skin. In South Africa the blacks are busy shouting we are rainbow nation but so many of them forgot what white privileged is all about. 22 years in Germany with German citizenship but I still don’t consider to be German and I know I won’t be a real German . My advice, we blacks should not be problem to each other, rather we should learn to accept one another despite where you are coming from.

Serious question, where do you recommend black people go? I for the most part agree leaving places you know you’ll be treated poorly, my only issue is if it’s your own country, you shouldn’t have to leave America. If you’re black American, black Irish or black Finnish, you should not have to leave your own native born country. Then you have to figure in colorism. Thank you for this and, I somehow agree... It's just not bad only in Finland but, in all Europe -, especially in the old Colonials. I am and was born Colonial European, planned to do a project about the Danis/Norwegian slave trade and, have since we started the plan, which we were forced to give up, been treated worse by Denmark than I've been treated anywhere in the world.. One thing Africans should bear in mind is: You can't have it rosy with racism when you leave the continent for even a day. And of course, like Malcom X said, Chinese people were never respected until China rose up. Singaporeans, Malaysians, and Japanese are respected because of their respective countries. The respect individual Blacks (anywhere in the world) and Africans will get will always depend on the respect Africa, the mother, commands worldwide, not by words but by actions and tangible results. With the knowledge that our individual respect lies in the respect Africa as a continent commands and that we may not have it rosy abroad when it comes to racism, we should lower our expectations, and hence do not get so much affected or disappointed when not treated well abroad. I've actually been to Finland i was going out with a lady there ! From what i saw and experienced and was told is that they are not very and welcoming to outsiders, but after being there for a while, they finally open up and become very warm and welcoming! So i guess after her being there for a while, it was the total opposite for her unfortunately! Tbh its a very nice country with beautiful open nature and not so many people which i really liked but what i didn't like is that it's so dam cold 🥶❄️⛄️ and if they do get a summer its only for 1-3 months if they're lucky but for me 1 time is enough there's better places overseas for visiting and living !
