@@Barney_rubble983 It had a combination of a decent price point, very good battery life, and quality games compared to the competitors of the time (Tiger one-off handhelds, Game Gear, etc.) plus Nintendo's massive marketing momentum from the success of the NES. If you were born after the GameBoy Color or GameBoy Advance came out you might not see the significance, the way that someone born into the N64 era (much less anything more recent than that) might have a hard time getting into sprite based games of the NES, SNES, or Genesis.

The games on this console kinda reminds me of those games you would play on a airport. (Yes, some airplanes actually had a screen with a controller for every seat, and not only could you watch films and cartoons on them, but you could actually play games on them. They even had OFFICIALLY LICENSED 'In-Flight' ports of Pac-Man and Tetris.)

You know, my grandmother got me that red and black gameboy thing from the thumbnail for Christmas one year as she knows I like odd things like that. One of the oddest games is some of trampoline game where you save oddly colored versions of the characters from Hamtaro. All in all for what it is, it’s a decent little time waster when I don’t feel like focusing on games that take any real thought.
