Poor Plusle and Minun. They were practically engineered to be used for double battles, and yet they are so terrible that you can't even really effectively use them in a double battle.
@Cysco8575
@Cysco8575 Жыл бұрын
The most ironic thing about Plusle and Minun is that in Pokemon Colosseum, a game which only fighting method is through double battles, they give you a Plusle as a gift but you need to trade a Minun from RSE if you want to use them both during the story. And you can trade between games only if you have a purified pokemon in Colosseum and the National Dex in RSE. I really would like to know what the developers where thinking when taking these decisions. Another thing about this Plusle is that the one they give you is level 13 while most of your mons are above level 30 by that time and is pretty overshadowed by Flaffy (which you get BEFORE the Plusle already at lvl 30 and evolves into Ampharos when you purify it) and Raikou (if you use the time flute to purify it right away).

@@Cysco8575 Wait, no, you can only trade Pokémon to Pokémon Colosseum after beating Evice. The trade facilities aren't accessible in that game until then. So you only have postgame stuff left at that point where you can use Plusle and Minun.

@Cysco8575 9 ай бұрын
@@MatthewCenance Oh, you're right! I got it wrong, i've never could trade pokemon from Colosseum anyway so i forget about it once i finish the game but you still need the Nat Dex in RSE to trade a Minum to Colosseum. At least if you really wan to use the duo you can level up them to lvl 60 or so and beat the postgame with them but up to that point almost every enemy knows Earthquake so... it's not worth it.

To make matters worse for Feebas, each pokemon has a "sheen" status when it comes to eating pokeblocks. If their sheen is maxed out, that pokemon can never again eat another pokeblock. If Feebas's beauty stat wasn't high enough by the end of that, which is easy if your feebas was the wrong nature or you didn't give it exclusively decent pokeblocks, then your Feebas can never evolve, period.
@guitarlesson666
@guitarlesson666 9 ай бұрын
And worst of all, it has this strict nature based on the evolution with the pockeblocks that if you have the wrong nature feebas it also doesn't evolve
@matthewkuscienko4616
@matthewkuscienko4616 8 ай бұрын
@guitarlesson666 That's not actually true, as far as I'm aware. While the nature of your Feebas will make it easier or harder to increase your beauty stat, it's not required to have a specific nature. That said, any nature that raises special attack (those being modest, mild, rash and quiet) will make it easier, but conversely, those that lower your special attack (those being adamant, impish, careful, and jolly) will make it harder to max out your beauty stat. This is because you need to use dry Pokeblocks for beauty, and rather they like or dislike the taste of that flavor depends on rather the nature in question raises or lowers your special attack stat. Again, it's not required to have a special attack boosting nature, but it does make it easier, and it works with Milotic having better special attack anyways
@ajflink

Yes. Also, oh! It has been a couple days since you last caught a Feebas and need another now? Well, now you need to rediscover which specific water tiles it has changed to likely since then. Also, to make things easier, have a Gulpin in the first slot of the party fainted with Sticky Hold. In the second slot, have Ralts, Kirlia, or Gardevoir with Synchronize and of the Modest Nature or any that explicitly give a boost to Special Attack.

Clamperl is deffo a special mention here, lmao. Clamperl is a Pokémon that you can only find by diving, aka you need not only one, but TWO water related HM's to find it (Surf and Dive). By the point you can find Clamperl (after the freaking 7th badge of the game) you've most likely found/trained your main Water type of the Team. Mudkip being the most popular starter in Hoenn already puts every candidate for the water slot in a tough spot, so, amidst the one million other options you get earlier in this game, imagine how bad and unlucky it must feel to be Clamperl (like... all the gyms that a Water type helps you defeat have already gone by!). After the dreadful task of finding this "outstanding creature", you learn (supposedly) of it's spliting evolutions. Said evolutions, that require you to go through a side quest involving more surfing, more diving, a lost Scanner in the Abandoned Ship, and trading it to Cpt. Stern for just ONE of the evolutionary items. Man, I sure do love split decisions about Pokémon I couldn't care less for... So, you finally did it. Let's say you want that sweet, pink, alluring Gorebyss (for God knows what reason). You have your Clamperl. You have your DeepSeaScale. It's finally time to use it and... oh... Clamperl is... a trade evolution... ahn? Wow... Like, it's baffling the hoops you have to go through to unlock the final evolutions of this pokémon. People nowadays talk a lot of crap about modern evolution methods like Galarian Yamask, Inkay or Hisuian Basculin, but you cannot convince me that the particular case of CLAMPERL wasn't bullshit already back in Gen 3!
@cogboy3587
@cogboy3587 Жыл бұрын
Totally agree. Clamperl is such an obsure, out of the way pokemon that - as you say - comes after you've already encounter more than 2 dozen different water types already. I remember leveling Clamperl all the way to the mid level 90's because I had zero idea about the Tooth or Scale items and didn't understand trade evolutions. Even if I'd figured it out, you'd be left with... one out of two very mediocre mono-water types which come at a point in the game where they're not even useful. I've traded myself a clamperl/gorebyss into a new save file - and even then it's just... ok. Dosen't help that the other hard to get Mono-water type (i.e. Milotic) is vastly superior to either Huntail or Gorebyss in most catagories.

So here's my Feebas horror story, a few years ago i downloaded an emulator in my phone and chose to finally raise a proper Feebas into a Milotic, went great, Milotic is such a fun pokemon to use but the evolution process is very tedious, all great there. Later on, i wanted to do another run but in my computer, so i downloaded the game, went throught the hell that is catching a Feebas and surprise! If the internal battery of the game has run out, time won't progress, berries will not grow and you wont be able to raise its beauty, so there i was, frozen in time with a Feebas that would never evolve.

Evolving a Feebas into a Milotic doesn't need repeated farming of Berries through Berry Trees; I personally did it using a Feebas (Modest), all available farmable Kelpsy Berries in a normal playthrough and few Chesto Berries and made Pokeblocks in Lilycove City. Note: this will be easier if you used the one-time use Pamtre Berry that you can get from the Berry Master, but I didn't since I also had a dead battery at the time and can't get another one. Getting better at making Pokeblocks and a nature that likes Blue Pokeblocks are key, and even the finite stock of berries is enough.

You were concerned about players having a Feebas but having no idea how to evolve it... but let's be real, nobody's catching a Feebas without a guide in the first place. Anyway, of the Pokemon you brought up, Chimecho is the one that I think adds the least to the game. The others, even when they aren't very useful in battle, still have memorable characteristics of their own. Nosepass as a reward for those who DO go back and mess with the rock smash mechanic, for example. And certainly Luvdisc matters a lot for non-combat reasons. Chimecho is just kinda... there and forgettable. Fun fact, it's actually the last Pokemon by index number, after Deoxys, which means it may have been a late addition to the game.

Sableye is the only pokemon gamefreak seemed to design with balance in mind. they knew it had no weakness at all (until Fairies were introduced many years later) and so it's weaker stats and movepool kind of make up for that. Same for Electross having levitate as an electric type. I really genuinely respect that. They know players would abuse the pokemon if it had decent stats on top of that. Now if only they thought of balancing dragon types, all of them double weak to Ice.... yet Ice is the worst type defensively having no resists except itself, and generally being slower than dragons. Took them until Gen NINE to fix Ice types...and that was after Fairies put dragons in thier place AND buffed poison and offensive steel types. Hehe eventually they fixed it. but good on Sableye. Mawile is also one of my favorite designs from Gen 3.

I can't really think of any other bad Hoenn Pokemon, besides maybe *Skitty/Delcatty.* = Its stats are barely higher than Spinda's with a similarly equal distribution (until Gen 6 where it got 20 more speed. Woohoo). = It can only be found on one route with a 2% encounter rate, though it _is_ very early into the game. = Not that it matters though since its level up movepool is very meh, with the best offensive move being either Tackle or Double Slap for a long time and being too weak to be worth using TMs on, like with some other Pokemon on the list. = And worst of all, it's a stone evolution. A *Moon Stone* evolution to be exact. Which can only be found in Meteor Falls, around the 4th badge. Way too late for such a weak Pokemon.

Fun fact: I put surf on my luvdisc and kept it in my party throughout the game, as I'd usually keep my HM-users in my team in order to get around the map. I hadn't at this point learned to relegate a specific pokémon to this role while leaving the rest of the party free for members who could actually fight, so I brought the thing all the way to the Elite 4. At least I got more mileage out of him than I got out of the illumise I turned Route 117 upside down several times to find (took me a few tries to actually catch one when I did find it) only to box it after realizing it couldn't do anything. I still have a soft spot for the li'l thing, though, maybe just because I like flappers? Volbeat also grew on me, what with the wild ones' annoying antics being enough to loop around to be hilarious in hindsight - those dang things just wouldn't let you touch them, and if you ever got through its confuse ray and several double teams, good luck getting another one before it makes that first attack all for nought with moonlight. Sure those traits probably don't have too many advantages once you catch it - you can't really get satisfaction out of being hair-pullingly annoying towards a computer that's physically incapable of becoming frustrated, and if you're fighting against a human player, they're probably packing something fast enough to one-shot it before it gets its pesky on, as in this context they can bring their aces instead of the hatchlings I would often try to use the bugs as grind-fodder for - all the same, though, the experiences I had with the fireflies made them some of the most memorable 'mons in gen 3, to the point that I actually like them, against all odds.

Oh, I actually used Volbeat in a playthrough before. It wasn't that bad in all honesty. Signal Beam is exclusive to it in these games, runs off its strangely decent attack stat, and is the second/third strongest Bug attack in the game, behind Megahorn (Heracross exclusive for STAB) and/or the fourth and fifth Fury Cutter attacks. It also has access to Tail Glow to patch up the poor special attack into something more usable. I believe the final moveset I ran with was Signal Beam, Tail Glow, Thunderbolt, and Giga Drain. Are there better mons to use? Oh god yes. But it was fun to use something I otherwise never would have.

I think it's worth mentioning that Plusle and Minun do have a niche as fast encore users, which can also help to set up sweepers with agility and baton pass. Still, that's only a more technical niche that would most commonly be useful for challenge playthroughs rather than casual runs.

Back in the day on Ruby I found the Feebas spot VERY easily and quickly, to the point where I thought it had a 100% encounter rate in that spot, however I always questioned when people said "It's so hard to find!" because I just went to the same 6 tiles and got one every fish 😂

While I agree with you that catching Feebas in gen 3 is an absolute ballache, I still believe it's worth catching one. Once you've caught it, you can take it to the daycare and breed it with a Ditto, then feed the resulting Feebas pokeblocks. That way, you're effectively raising a Milotic from birth, which is 100% worth it.

As someone who got into evolving milotic after learning the method through online guides, I loved this process. Well, "loved", fishing was quite difficult and tedious. But planting berries every day while on the subway knowing in a few hours they'd be ripe for the picking, and being rewarded after it all with Milotic, a pokemon with an amazing design was worth it. Specially since I tried to catch Rayquaza after and Milotic was the only one in my team who could stand toe to toe with this mighty beast. I do not regret a second of it. Sure wish the game was more upfront about it... Even if realistically this is kind of the point. Community discussion, rumors, etc, are what Pokemon are built around.

Volbeat and Illumise don’t deserve to exist. They’re the worst. Weak and pathetic Pokémon. Not even with interesting types. Why they’re in SV baffles me. They’re purely dex filler. I’d much rather have any other 2-stage line. I’m sure there’s a 3rd one to cut and we could have the Togekiss line.

Chimecho was the last pokemon i needed in one of my first sapphire runs as an 11 year old. I could not find that thing for the life of me. I had a players guide so i knew you could find it at mt pyre. Hours of searching, nothing. I even borrowed my neighbors action replay to try to get one, but i didnt really know what i was doing when entering codes. Somehow all of the pokemon were just... randomized. But no combination let find a wild chimecho. 199 out of 200 pokemon were caught when i started a new game. Fast forward to reaching mt pyer i noticed some grass at the top. Wouldnt you know it, one of the first pokemon i saw was a wild chimecho. Turns out while reading the players guide, 11 year old me thought the "summit of mt pyre" meant the bottom of the mountain, not the top of the mountain. Also fun fact, because i used my neighbors action replay i learned that chimecho's index number is after deoxys in pokedex order. Kinda leads me to believe chimecho was the last pokemon the be added to ruby and sapphire during development. Needless to say chimecho will always hold a special, yet frustrating, place in my heart.

In order to get a Milotic I had to hunt feebas... *TWICE* , because it turns out the tiles *CAN BLOODY CHANGE* , the tiles are reset randomly when the Dewford Trendy Phrase changes, and if you use regular beauty pokeblocks, you'll max out the amount your feebas can get and it won't evolve, so you'll need a new one, and if it's male (50%), you won't be able to breed him!!! Never change that damn phrase

So I knew EVERYTHING about feebas, I got it, maxed the beauty, did everything... but as a kid I didn't realize it had to level once AFTER max beauty... so I thought it needed literal max beauty, like it had to reach the end on that little pentagon chart. So I bred feebas over and over and over and over blending so many pokeblocks and never ever got milotic. Worst part? It was the last pokemon for my pokedex which I DESPERATELY wanted to do to finally say I finished one. Forever at 199/200 in ruby...

Very good video and true stuff about Luvdisc lol. Still don’t understand to this day why it doesn’t evolve into Alomomola! My Feebas horror story for RSE is not just the difficulty of finding it, but the berry feeding process! You have to have the right berries to make blue and indigo Pokeblocks, and if you max out it’s eating before it’s beauty truly “maxed”, you can NEVER evolve it! I think I had to try like 4 or 5 times before actually getting a Milotic! Also, the tiles that you catch Feebas on change every day I recall, so if you didn’t catch a million once you found the right tile, you had hell to pay finding it again! Crazy stuff… But part of what makes the older Pokémon game’s so memorable - it was ACTUALLY a challenge unlike some of the new ones!

Volbeat is cracked for casual playthroughs and I refuse to believe otherwise. He has crazy physical coverage so get a Jolly or Adamant nature on him and go wild. I used the following set: SignalBeam/ShadowBall/BrickBreak/DoubleEdge Holding Silk Scarf or Shell Bell (depending on if you want more power or less recoil from DE). I switched it for a Choice Band after gaining access to the Battle Frontier. Volbeat may not be the strongest, but he was my go-to for type coverage.

Okay, I'll drop a like, but only because I actually sound like that. Also the video is good. Been watching a lot of these types of videos while I plan out routes for challenge runs, and they're really helpful, but I have to say, I like Spinda more than Kecleon and Castform. I'm planning a normal type challenge run, and Spinda is on my planned team over those two for it's utility. The issue with Kecleon that made me drop it over Spinda is it's ability, since Color Change is not something the player can control, so it's STAB moves and resistances are entirely dependant on the opponent hitting it.

And Delcatty isn't all that much better honestly. Honestly, I know that they were introduced for contests, but who does contests? You'll perhaps try them once or twice, and then forget bout them. Actually, yes, I did find a Feebas in my old Sapphire. I somehow got lucky and got it on the very first water tile when you walk down those stairs to get to the water. I read about the beauty thing online, but I instantly knew I messed up when I saw the beauty stat wasn't max'd out and she wouldn't eat anymore. Another silly thing I had was with Shedinja. Somehow, despite having the knowledge with Feebas and Milotic, I didn't know for a while about how to obtain Shedinja. So I just raised a Ninjask to a really high level, and once it reached 100, I only decided then to look up how to get the darn thing. Kid me was sooooooo patient, compared to nearly 30 old me now.

To be fair, the ONLY playthrough I spent time to get Feebas was one that I totally knew what I was doing. It was also an Emerald cartridge without battery, so the supply of berries was limited and I had to plan everything to be able to evolve it. It was a bit stressful, to be honest. I'm sure it's been mentioned, but the real reason Chimecho deserves it's spot is because if you use false swipe and it has 1HP left, it is GUARANTEED to use take down and kill itself... I dunno if it's AI is programmed to do that, but I remember it took me HOURS (on a long car ride) to catch one because the FIVE of them I ran into would always kill themselves after a false swipe. I eventually resorted to using a duskull I caught around the same level and lowering it's health a bit, then spamming ultra balls. but yeah... and the funny thing is, the next game introduced Chingling, which evolves into Chimecho, for all the headache it takes to catch Chimecho...I completely forgot Chingling evolves into it and just had one sitting in my box. Went from near impossible to practically everywhere overnight. they KNEW (though then they gave us Munchlax which to be honest, I didn't bother. WAY easier to just bring up a Snorlax and breed it, just forget all that. I don't even like Munchlax cause it's one of the biggest reasons I dislike Gen 4's presentation.) On the topic of Milotic, I got stupid lucky in Gen 8. Let me preface by saying I think trade evolution is the WORST evolution method in any game by far, cause requiring another friend to get a pokemon is a major roadblock for some people. and it's just a waste of time, people just don't "trade" anymore like they used to, and the surprise factor isn't there. WE know how to min max our own pokemon, so what's even the point other than version exclusives (which is *FINE*....begrudgingly fine but fine). Now with that out of the way... I got lucky cause I caught a Milotic before ever getting a Feebas. I was farming stones and it was foggy near the lake where all the stones were in the wild area, so I just happened to pass by one and caught it. I didn't think much of it, but it being foggy at that area and me being in the right spot at the right time really was a good fortune, as catching Feebas...while not the worst in Gen 8, does have a 1% chance in the one fishing spot that has it. Ironically, Centiskorch ended up being me trying my luck with the right weather as I somehow didn't catch one during the Fire gym and the only way to get them is a 1% encounter rate in the grass nearby, OR in the wild area in the crown tundra when it's harsh sunlight. I was really lucky I caught the Vulpix too cause I didn't realize Shield can't get them outside of Kabu's gym. Fortunately gen 9 gets rid of random encounters mostly, but it's still random when the pokemon you want will appear, but you can always cook to make it easier and it may be the easiest way to get Milotic since it only appears in one area and doesn't rely on random factors like weather. You do need the DLC though, unlike Gen 8.

How could you not mention Delcatty? Skitty is super rare on only one route in the game. You can't evolve it till you get to Meteor Falls. And even when evolved it has terrible stats akin to a non-evolved pokemon and cant really do much offensively or defensively alongside being a bland normal type

Plusle/Minun come right before you get the shock wave TM, can T-bolt Magneton while underlevelled thanks to their speed, Minun learns charm, thunder is buyable in Lilycove before the flying gym must be beaten to progress any further (3-4k TM over T-bolt's 80k), and if you do New Mauville right when it's available you get a free T-bolt TM before going to the Eastern parts of Hoenn. Now let's compare Plusle/Minun to their real competition: Electrike. They learn spark around the same level, have much better speed and special bulk, hit harder (even Minun) and don't need to wait to reach lv 26 to do anything but OHKO some Taillow or Swablu/Wingull (and Wingull outspeeds, supersonics and you lose to confusion...). Also before gen 6, Manectric had a bad learnset, learning bite at a level most of its' look-alikes learn CRUNCH, living on spark and quick attack with howl until then and on electrik TMs. Or you could just use Plusle, then catch Pikachu and evolve it past lv 26 for free T-bolt, good enough speed to outspeed everything in Hoenn at a similar level with a few speed EV except for Ninjask and Crobat that a T-bolt or thunder OHKO anyway, and Raichu can learn more coverage moves than Manectric can dream of, can learn moves from its' egg group due to having a body allowing it to use its' front legs like fists, and Pikachu learns light screen and agility naturally IIRC (not sure about agility), fixing its' weaknesses. Magneton is mostly better than Manectric unless it faces ground coverage (but that's a gym 8+ thing mostly, otherwise it's just walled by ground types, that's it, and 70 speed 120 sp atk really make it able to OHKO things you can't OHKO with Manectric and still outspeed them), it's immune to poison, has supersonic and can also use thunder under the rain like any other thunder user, but with 120 base sp atk and STAB it hits harder than Kyogre's thunder. Pelipper falls to any Plusle's T-bolt, spark if you EV trained it for sp atk. Gyarados is a bit beefier but still falls easily with T-bolt. Tentacruel falls to most EQ users it can't outspeed and OHKO while neither grass nor electric is effective against it and that guy is everywhere. Electric is pointless against Barboach and Swampert, Barboach is one of these mons you see in gym 8 and E4 teams. Ludicolo is pretty much a staller like Tentacruel with leech seed instead of supersonic and doesn't fall to electric types. The best electric attackers are the ones that are not electric types (Starmie, Golduck, Gardevoir, Kadabra/Alakazam, Kyogre) because they don't take a one shot from non-STAB earthquake unless they're squishy and if so they're so fast and powerful/versatile that they outpeed and OHKO the offender before taking that attack. So while Manectric seems superior to Plusle and Minun in theory, the reality is that just getting one before it's obsolete requires grinding Electrike or catching a high level one/a Manectric after gym 5 in the grass before the high grass areas, and by then most water types you fight are more vulnerable to grass than they are to electric and rock/ice can both deal with flying types, and you can find good water types right there and then, catching a Carvanha in the same area as Manectric, evolving it in the early 30s (and you catch it one town away from the daycare where you can put it, go on a run and get it back in a few minutes without needing to grind it all the way up) into the fastest non-Starmie water type with early crunch, slash and surf available for coverage and STAB, brick break before gym 8/legendary fight and sweep everything that isn't a competitive tank (so no sweeping the water gym leader or the Emerald champion with Sharpedo, but you can sweep almost everything else before them and between them) and it also learns ice beam via TM/breeding. Manectric and every electric type until at least gen 5 lacks coverage (except for Lanturn due to its' typing, Electabuzz that ca learn brick break and psychic and Raichu), has fierce competition for a party slot that is easy to fill with a water-killer that doesn't get one shot by ground moves and can hit a Barboach with something that affects it and falls off a cliff after the flying gym/route to Lilycove, as even the water routes have lots of Tentacool, Tentacruel and the key trainers have Barboach/Ludicolo to counter it and Milotic simply refuses to die, is somehow always in a rain team and OHKOs in return. Manectric is a lot of hassle for no positive return past the mid game where it's finally evolved. It doesn't help for long and is outclassed for most of its' existence. Plusle just fills your party with a Wingull/Marill killer early on and can be swapped for a better option later on without looking back. Oddish/Roselia plays the same role except for Wingull (that can be easily dealt with by Taillow's wing attack, Grovyle's leaf blade or a fossil's rock tomb, ancientpower or drain move) and can actually beat Barboach/fight Tentacruel. Hell you could always get a level 49 Oddish via daycare and breed petal dance onto your grass mon for the entire playthrough without having to grind and use an overlevelled mon.

Illumise did pretty well in my nuzlocke. Had to use TMs though. Like that was essential to it being useful. I definitely prefer Dustox. With the combination of poison sting and protect, it can nearly solo the battle against Norman's Slaking (in Emerald). Spinda: "there's worse normal type..." (me holding my breath) "..Spinda" (oh thank you, my skitty is safe!) I love Chimecho's design, but it's just so baffling weak. even worse thing about Feebas, you have to make sure those pokeblocks are high enough level, because it's possible to feed it only blue and indigo pokeblocks and still not get enough to max out its beauty, and theres no way to redo it, so if you mess up even a little, you have a feebas FOREVER. That's my Feebas horror story by the way, my first Feebas ended up like two points short on max beauty at the time its sheen was maxed and could no longer eat pokeblocks, so he was doomed to forever remain a Feebas. Anyway, love seeing if I actually used any of the worst pokemon when I was a kid and in this case, the answer is a resounding YES. Kid me had both a Spinda and a Minun on my main team, lol. plusle, minun, Volbeat, Illumise, and chimecho are nowhere close to being one of the worst pokemons in gen 3. Plusle and Minun are great support pokemon. They both get encore which is one of the best moves in the game, thunder wave is great and later they both get access to agility + baton pass. They still also does good damage because of their great typing with stab thunderbolt. Sure as a purely offensive pokemon Manectric does outclass them, but Plusle and Minun are way more versitile then Manectric will ever be. Volbeat is essentially the only good source of bug type damage that you get before Heracross learns Mega Horn at level 53. Signal Beam from Volbeat is also way stronger then you would think. at level 25 it is actually one of the strongest moves that you have access to at that point in the game, and Volbeat can also have the ability Swarm that boosts the power of Signal Beam even further. Bug type offence is also actually quite useful in gen 3, since there are quite a lot of Dark and Psychic types that you fight in gen 3 especially in Sapphire where Volbeat is easier to get. it also gets Protect on level up before Norman, so it is an amazing option for cheesing the Slakings. Volbeat does fall off a little bit towards the end of the game, but it is still does quite well against the likes of tate and liza and Sydney. Illumise is an good support pokemon. Encore is still one of the best moves in the game, very early Charm is also really good, and it also gets access to wish which is very cool and works great with encore. It does struggle a bit with dealing damage tho, but you can at least give it shock wave early on, which can later on be upgraded to thunderbolt, or you can spend a little time in the game corner to give it thunderbolt straight away. Just having access to good electric type moves is good enough so that Illumise can at least level up without needing much help, so it doesn't need to hog the exp share or anything. While yes Illumise is 100% outclassed in the support role by Plusle and Minun, but that doesn't mean that Illumise is bad and it still has some unique things that they can't do. Chimecho is like you said definitly the worst psychic type in gen 3, but also like you said that doesn't mean it is bad. it's ability Levitate is very good, and that + getting Yawn makes it actually a very solid bring vs Tate & Liza, there isn't much Tate & Liza can do against Chimecho and it can spend its time spreading sleep with yawn. Other then that it has access to Calm Mind which is one of the best moves in the game. You can put stuff to sleep with Yawn then begin to set up with Calm Mind and sweep with Psychic + Shock Wave. It definitely isn't the best calm minder in the game, but it it still very solid. I do definitly agree with Nosepass, Spinda and luvdisc tho. Epsecially Nosepass, that thing is probably the actual worst Pokemon in the game in gen 3. But i also have some others that i think suck quite a lot. Beautifly, while you said you would rather use Beautifly over Volbeat and Illumise, i could not disagree more. It is slow, very frail, and has one of the absolute worst typings in the game. The only half decent support move it gets is Stun Spore, and its offensive movepool isn't anything to wright home about either, with almost no good stab moves. If you don't grind the game corner for Psychic, its best damaging moves for a good chunk of the game will be Secret Power and Gust. Besides Brawly, there are basically no fights in the game that Beautifly does well against. Its speed typing and frailty just holds it back so much. Masquerain is better then beautifly, but not by much. It is also slow and has the same awful typing. It has more bulk and has one of the best abilities in the game with intimidate, but its not enough to save it. It has no good support moves, and its only good offensive moves are Ice Beam, Bubblebeam and Giga Drain. That just isn't strong enough when all of them are non stab from a base 80 special attack. Masquerain also has the problem of being a 1% encounter which doesn't help it either. Delcatty is quite similar to Spinda. their stats are almost the same, Delcatty has a bit more speed and HP, but that is about it. Their movepools is also very similar, with them both running a very weak sleep + calm mind set where Delcatty uses BoltBeam while Spinda uses Psychic + Shock Wave. But unlike Spinda, Delcatty is also a 2% encounter rate on a very early route, so you also have to deal with using Skitty which is also horrible and doesn't get any good moves until you can evolve it at meteor falls. Cradily, while Cradily isn't awful youhave to remember that it doesn't start as a Cradily... and Lileep sucks. Lileep doesn't evolve until level 40, and before this the only damaging moves that Lileep learns on level up is 30bp Astonish, 10bp constrict, and 40bp acid. Lileep is a slow and bulky grass type, but it has none of the good support moves that grass types are known for. No leech Seed, no healing of any kind, and no status moves like sleep powder or stun spore. Even from TM the only really worthwile move it gets is Giga Drain, which while good, it is basically the only good move it has before it evolves at level 40!! And even after it evolves, Cradily isn't amazing or anything, its still slow and bulky with moves that doesn't support that playstyle at all. Its best moveset is honestly an all out mixed attacking set with Giga Drain, AnchentPower, Earthquake and Sludge Bomb. That just isn't worth the pain that is using Lileep for over half the game. Cacturne is a slow and frail but very strong mixed attacker. But like Cradily, its moveset does not support this playstyle at all. It has some really good support moves like Spikes and Leech Seed, but its way too slow and frail to make good use of them. Then you look towards its attacking moves.... Its best stab moves are all 60bp, with faint attack, Needle arm and Giga Drain. And for coverage it has.... nothing. it has Focus Punch and normal attacks, that's it. To put it into perspective how awfull only having 60bp stabs are, Hydro Pump from Mudkip(which mudkip does learn on level up btw), does 10-15% more damage then Needle Arm From Cacturne. both being used against the same neutral target. Cacturne gets shafted so hard because of its movepool

What do you think of my favorite Pokémon Grumpig?
@thohillesland
@thohillesland 9 ай бұрын
@@MatthewCenance Grumpig is pretty good, It is nowhere near the best Psychic type in gen 3, but like i said with Chimecho, just being a Psychic type with Calm Mind in gen 3 automatically makes you quite a good pokemon. Spoink's stats are suprisingly decent for being an unevolved pokemon, 70Sp.atk, and 80 sp.def are very usable, it also having access to psybeam as soon as you catch it helps a ton. Spoink is just a straight up upgrade over Kirlia at that point in the game, all of spoink's stats besides attack and defence(which is equal) is better that Kirlia. Kirlia also is stuck with Cunfusion until level 26, while Spoink has psybeam. Grumpig's stats are also very solid, its quite bulky with 80HP and 110sp.atk, and also suprisingly fast with a base 80spd. Its ability Thick Fat is also very good, especially since it can be used against both the FIre gym and Ice Elite four. Unfortunatly Grumpig also has 2 big drawbacks, evolving at level 32 is just a little late, unless you grind a lot Spoink will most likely not evolve before you get to Winona. This means against for example the normal gym which almost only has fully evolved Pokemon at that point, Spoink just can't keep up. The other drawback is its movepool, Having both Psychic and Calm Mind is of course great, however Grumpig just doesn't get a lot more than that. Its only special coverage move is Shock Wave at 60power, and for a fourth move, you unfortunatly have to make due with Substitute or Rest. Grumpig unfortunatly just has a pretty bad movepool when compared to most of the other psychic types in gen 3, even Chimecho has a better movepool than Grumpig. For the record here is how i'd rank the Psychic types you have access to in gen 3 Alakazam < Kadabra < Girafarig = Medicham = Starmie < Lunatone < Solrock < Gardevoire < Grumpig = Xatu < Claydol = Chimecho < Wobbuffet Latios, Latias and Metagross are not ranked because you can't get them until post game

I did a bug pokemon only run of Ruby (it was actually a fun challenge) and I ended up relying on Volbeat a lot in the elite 4. Granted, that was with Ninjask baton passing some attack, speed ,and/or evasion and then using tail glow. I had intended on using Masquerain against Drake because it learns ice beam via TM, but it sucked so bad I had to rely on Volbeat for his battle as wall as Steven. Still, how many people can say that they swept Steven with a Volbeat that knew shock wave? TLDR: Volbeat is better than Masquerain in a playthrough even just using tail glow (but they're both not good).

Somewhat recently I fished for a Feebas in Emerald. I knew it was only 6 tiles but I didn’t realize it was only a 50% encounter rate on those 6 tiles so I fished and encountered one pokemon per tile and then moved on to the next. I got down to the last 4 tiles doing this and then I got found it. Glad I did because I was starting to panic even though I made sure to fish on every tile. It saved me from so much confusion.

I trained two Spindas myself in Gen VI--one for a playthrough, one competitive--and it was a blast both times. They were objectively terrible with silly, luck-based moves, and it was hilarious watching them stumble around smiling the whole way through. The one I used in my ORAS playthrough had a focus band and maxed-out affection, too, so it would repeatedly dodge or endure hits it had no business living through while its opponents beat themselves up from Teeter Dance. Spinda’s great if you don’t care about winning. I know it’s complete garbage, but I can’t help but love the little guy anyway.

I used a Volbeat in my last Emerald playthrough and it was straight up my most useful pokemon. There are a *lot* of pokemon weak to bug moves, so getting a really good one at level 25 is incredible. I did have to breed for it because the 1% encounter rate sucks, but that also gave me the oppertunity to go for a good nature while I was at it. If you want to use a bug pokemon for it's bug type coverage, it's honestly your best choice in gen 3.

WARNING: big, BIG dump coming, because I’m an extremely sentimental nerd in a thoughtful mood. I might be better advised to put this in its own space instead of barfing into a KZbin comment, but here we are anyway. I clicked on this video knowing my favorite Pokémon would probably be on it, and found your assessment to be very fair. And funnily enough, one of your main points is one of the main reasons it became my favorite. I was an 8-year-old Pokémon fanatic in the sweaty, anxious months leading up to Ruby and Sapphire’s release. My sister and I printed out the new Pokédex list, with all the Pokémon’s sprites listed next to their #s and names. Immediately, the Pokémon that stood out to me most, nestled next to the ultra-cool Absol, was Chimecho. I don’t know why it resonated as much as it did - probably the calming color combination, along with its distinct silhouette. But my biggest goal, long before the games ever released stateside, was to find a Chimecho ASAP. I was, and have always been, resolutely -different-, and I clung to things in life which were -different-. My favorite state of matter wasn’t solids, liquids, or gases. It was plasma. So I’d already developed a major fondness for rare and unused Pokémon - THOSE were the ones that fascinated me most. Back then, I never understood the appeal of liking Charizard or Dragonite - I didn’t see what was special about liking what everyone else did. So I prayed, secretly, that Chimecho would be an uncommon favorite to have. (I think that panned out pretty well.) When I reached Mt. Pyre, I camped out. Almost two hours passed. I began fretting that my game might be bugged, or that I maybe had to trigger an encounter in a -specific tile of grass- (hilariously, I had no idea about the Feebas thing, and never went for one). Chimecho just refused to appear. But then its unique silhouette finally slid into the screen. I will always cherish that memory. I taught her Return not because that made ANY sense for offense, but because I wanted to believe I could make her as happy as I felt in the moment she finally appeared. It all sounds laughably childish and dramatic, because it is. I bought fully into the shonen sappiness of Pokémon; a journey of discovery with a special band of friends who you could so easily fall into not appreciating, or mistreating. It’s commonly brought up that honestly, the conceit of Pokémon is just glorified animal pit-fighting, and as much as I adore Gen 5, it was never going to be able to reconcile that meaningfully - they’ve gotta sell their toys. But for me, the simple friendship theme all clicked from an early age. And Chimecho became the centerpiece of my love for Pokémon. I knew Chimecho wasn’t powerful. She didn’t have to be; she made me happy. Being honest, I think Chimecho’s late appearance and rarity, as you point out, is likely hard to defend, coming from anyone who isn’t me. I’m the worst person to ask - to this day, when any random NPC trainer sends out a Pokémon who is also on my team, I can’t stop myself from saying “how dare you.” That pesky need to be one-of-a-kind is just ingrained. So I’m probably the only person who benefits when Chimecho is used -so rarely- by NPCs. I think I only have to battle against it once in Gen 3 and maybe twice in Gen 4. Any of you (if literally ANYONE is somehow reading this far) can rightfully wonder what could possibly be the point of Chimecho existing, in that case. And I kinda wonder a little, myself. It’s like the developers barely remembered it exists, even in the game where it was introduced. Was it a late addition, just for the sake of having one more new encounter slot at Mt. Pyre? Was Chingling just another realization that a single-evolution Pokémon was sitting around? I don’t yet know. Right before I stopped watching the Pokémon anime, Chimecho was the focal point of an episode for the first time. Not only that, it was an episode that saw James acquire one as a companion. I didn’t know how to feel about that - on one hand, it was awesome and surreal to see Chimecho get attention, let alone such a large role. But suddenly, I didn’t feel so unique anymore. Only very recently, many years later, did I look back at an article about James’ Chimecho’s run. Only then did I fully grasp that, when all was said and done, James couldn’t stand putting Chimecho into battle situations. He treasured his friend too much. And that pulls all this together for me, really. In the grand scheme, on paper, Pokémon is nothing more than a franchise centered around video games, where the creatures within are various levels of competitively viable or visually/conceptually appealing. Especially in a real world context, their nigh-sole purpose, aside from collecting, is for people to try to build and synergize them in ways that can defeat others in bouts of skill and luck. But for those of us who bought into the schlock, like me, we can actually believe that silly rhetoric of “Pokemon aren’t just tools for battling”. From what I can gather, that’s exactly the premise of James and his Chimecho. And I love that Chimecho was given a chance to carry that message to more people than just me, who experienced it by accident. I think most people prefer to appreciate strong, useful, or cool Pokémon. And that’s honestly fine - thankfully, I don’t scoff at Charizard lovers like I did when I was young. But maybe, your favorite Pokémon might “suck.” Just remember, in case this sort of philosophy resonates: if even just a single person adores a Pokémon, it can’t truly be meaningless. I just think that’s nice.

I chuckled when you pronounced it “chai-mech-ko” 😂. It’s modeled after a windchime, so I just figured it’s Chime-cho. Anyway it’s my favorite pokemo just based on its design alone. It’s so freaking cute. And I love windchimes IRL, too. If I’m not using Gardevoir or Kadabra in a playthrough, then Chimecho is in my psychic slot.

This is a good story for me, because one time I was looking for a carvanha to evolve into a sharpedo for my emerald playthrough and not only did I run into a feebas tile but I kept getting only feebas from that tile but I did eventually get a carvanha so this might be the luckiest I'll ever get in a pokemon game.
